I have stayed at the inn in Little Washington many times, but for the value and experience Glenn Gordon Manor gets my vote in spades. Dayn the chef is terrific. Their multicourse meal was spectacular and all the service between Madison and Kenya, and everyone else was so friendly and down to earth the accommodations were terrific. If you do book here the Kenmere room is the best.

Imagine for a moment entering a romantic hunting lodge from the early part of the 1900's. Now imagine a modern and classy version of that same lodge. That's what you get with the Glen Gordon Manor, an elegant, luxurious, and romantic inn and restaurant in the heart of the Shenandoah. We were welcomed warmly by the restaurant manager, Scott, with two glasses of champagne. He gave us a full tour of the property and than showed us to our room. We stayed in the Fyvie room, a detached property within walking distance of the main inn. What made this room amazing, was the large opulent bathroom with a huge soaking tub that fits two people perfectly. We spent practically all afternoon and the following morning in that tub, which felt like a day spa. In addition to the tub, the room featured a bidet, as well as a Sonos surround sound system, which allowed us to play music while relaxing in the room. To finish off the experience, the room featured a private patio overlooking the fields. It was the perfect spot to enjoy an early morning coffee or relax with a book. To enhance our stay, we booked a couples massage, in their newly renovated converted barn spa. The spa featured a massage room, a small advanced fitness center, including a Peloton. The massages were so peaceful and truly enhanced this luxurious and romantic stay. My wife said that the massage truly made her birthday weekend special. And finally, the grand finale, a fine dining experience at the Houndstooth restaurant by chef and owner Dayn Smith. The onsite restaurant is a super intimate candlelit space. We enjoyed a five course tasting menu along with a bottle of local wine. We were more and more impressed with each course that came out. What truly stood out, was the fall squash ravioli and deconstructed halloween dessert. The best part of the dining experience, was the head chef and owners family all worked together to create this experience. His son, Colin, was even one of our servers and was telling us all about his life growing up in restaurants and his future culinary journey. Along with his son, the rest of the staff were absolutely outstanding in service, personality and attention to detail. Even breakfast was unbeatable. The property has free range chickens walking around, which serve as a source of fresh eggs for the morning breakfast. My partner quickly became best friends with the rooster, who likes the left over bread from the previous evenings dinner. We have eaten at many top restaurants in the world and this was surely one of the best dining experiences that we have ever had. So much so, that Patrick O'Connell from the Inn at Little Washington, frequents the establishment... on his rare days off. One thing to note about this property, was it's close proximity to some of Virginia's best wineries and small towns. This makes for a perfect day outing before returning to the inn and relaxing. We highly recommend this inn and restaurant if you are looking to celebrate a special occasion and made to feel very special.

We have found the Tuscany or Napa Valley of the east coast! The view past the pool is enough to sell you on staying here, but the charm inside the inn is inviting as well. What's incredible is the staff here seem to do it all; they'd check us in, then be serving dinner, help us poolside, make our beds, etc. The staff were all really friendly and made such an effort to make sure we enjoyed our stay. I love how the owner/chef also came to serve and explain his dishes showing he's not just hiring others to do it, but that he enjoys seeing his guests too by participating. What brought us here is we need a hotel with a full service restaurant in reach of the rooms, so we can put our 1 year old to bed and then with the baby monitor head to dinner. Even though this inn was full of couples and had a romantic vibe to it, the staff ate up our daughter by giving her all the attention (esp at breakfast, immediately getting an egg or pancakes for her). She particularly loved the chickens and horses on the property, especially the pony Penny who we visited daily. The restaurant Houndstooth is exceptionally good; the plating and quality of the food, along with the service.. an experience from start to finish. They have 3 different dining areas that all have their own vibe... we liked the table right by the window view of the pool. We were disappointed that they don't offer a la carte menu because the price for their 5 course meal is very steep. We believe this is why the turnover of customers is high here because they don't have the option for a la carte. We opted for 5 course meal two nights despite it being over budget and though it was very enjoyable, I felt a bit guilty how over budget it was for us. But YOLO when on vacation Lol. Pro tip! They have board games in their public bathroom if you're looking to hang in the lounge area. Also towels for the pool in there. Thank you for a homey wonderful stay with beautiful views!

We had a wonderful long weekend getaway in the Edward Suite and can't wait to return! The service was excellent, most notably Colin and Kate, and we were greeted with glasses of champagne and a tour of the beautiful property. The tasting menu and wine pairing were delicious. They thought of every detail, and the spaces were comfortable and beautiful. Breakfast each morning was different and absolutely wonderful; the detailed and thoughtful service lasted from the minute you woke up until you retired to your room. The property is lovely, with some "conversation chickens" and horses, including two rescued mustangs. The barn has a spa space, a 24-hour gym with Peloton, and a massage chair. The Edward Suite was spacious, clean, comfortable, and well-appointed. We loved the rain shower, extra "solarium" with comfortable seating, and our private patio space with a brand-new hot tub. Highly recommend the sunset over the mountains from the hot tub. On our second day, we went hiking, and Glen Gordon staff packed us a delicious backpack picnic lunch. For the price, which is equivalent to other similar inns in Virginia, like the Ashby or the Boar's Head, this is our favorite place by far.

Simply the best. Forget The Inn at little Washington. This is in an old inn only has 5 tables in main room. One menu and one sitting but the attention to detail is incredible. Just look at the menu and the food. I have a happy tummy. It's not cheap and it's far away BUT with the money and the drive.

Just got home from staying at Glen Gordon Manor. I wanted to write a review because it was so fantastic ! The grounds were breath taking and relaxing and so charming ! Walking around was absolutely beautiful and peaceful . The staff was beyond friendly and accommodating ! The rooms were large, cute and had everything you needed . Breakfast was 830-930 am and they made you a breakfast that was delicious and the eggs came from the cute hens they had as pets! There were gorgeous horses o. the property and my family had fun feeding the friendly horses! Anyway, had to write what a fabulous time we had .... we wish we could have stayed longer and had the dinner there , as it looked amazing but we were only in town a few days for a wedding! If you are considering staying here ..... do it... you won't be disappointed !!!

Ok, it's been...far too long since I've re-visited this review. I'm happy to say that I'm still just as pleased as I was with my first visit! The accommodations: no matter which room you choose, they are all lovely. They are all very different, and located in different parts of the manor (or in the cottage or separately). My personal preference is the Windsor, located in the cottage. Luxurious (and honestly one of the most comfortable - I actually asked the innkeepers about the mattress) king bed, relaxing blue-gray tones, an enormous bathroom with a soaking tub that overlooks the mountains and horses. We've also stayed in the Wallis, which was very nice too. Even larger bathroom! The service: just great. Chef Dayn and Nancy are willing to go out of their way to make you comfortable. This past visit, we requested a cheese plate to enjoy in front of the fire, which they built for us upon request. We've also done the same thing, but by the pool in the summer! Most recently, Chef installed a very cool wine cellar - make sure you check it out. The food: incredible. The breakfasts are impeccably prepared, and they aren't kidding about the free-range chickens - they really do run around the back of the property and you can always see a fresh bowl of eggs in the kitchen. The dinners, though - as others have said, these are fine dining at its best, and with excellent wine pairings if you so choose. We try to visit every season - the menu changes quite frequently. Glen Gordon Manor is a place I found on accident but one I keep returning to!

Everything about this stay was excellent! We came as a birthday celebration and stayed a couple of nights. A couple of weeks out, staff from the Inn called to pre-arrange our stay and ensure everything was set for meals and our stay. We chose to stay in a suite and upon arrival, Brian did an EXCELLENT job giving us a tour of the Inn and going over all the amenities and various features of the Inn and the room we stayed in. The pictures of the room don't do it justice, it's so much more impressive in-person! The bed was VERY comfy and perfectly adorned with luxury linens! Curtains in the room were made of beautiful, heavy fabric with nice shades behind them. The room featured an iPad, which could be used to surf the web, as they have free wifi throughout, but it was also playing on their Sonos system when we arrived, so we had awesome jazz playing in our room the entire stay (select the music of your choice!)! The room was very clean and perfectly decorated! There was a fridge, which was great for the free bottles of water provided by the Inn, as well as Reidel wine glasses, which were great for wine to enjoy in your room. The amenities in the bathroom were very nice! Soap, body wash and shampoo has an amazing scent! Plenty of space in our bathroom, with a separate shower and toilet (water closet) area and tub and sinks, featuring a large clawfoot tub. Beautiful art through the property as well as our room. Lots of amazing views from the bedroom and various common areas of the Inn, as their grounds are beautiful, as are the mountains which seem to be visible from nearly every window. The included breakfast was absolutely incredible! Dayn prepares something different and unique everyday, using fresh, tasty ingredients and service during breakfast was friendly and outstanding! They have a beautiful pool with lounging chairs and umbrellas to enjoy a nice book (they have a large bookcase with very interesting reads in the main hall!), a drink poolside or a dip in the pool. Since they have a full bar and an amazing wine list, you can enjoy drinks from either while at the pool or around their grounds. There's also a nice area out back to spend the evening around a fire pit or even dine at one of their many outside dining tables. The entire stay was incredible and very nicely priced! We can't wait to return!

Idyllic and romantic spot off the beaten path. Absolutely perfect for a recharge. The property is stunning. The main house is gorgeous. Breakfast in the morning was fresh and delicious. The common spaces are cozy and still private. The rooms are spectacular. There are so many little spots to explore and enjoy. The chef will even chop up carrots for you to feed the horses on the property. This place was a fantastic find

Quiet setting, hunting lodge, horses, chickens, all locally sourced food. Beautifully appointed rooms. Kind and friendly staff. Reserve an intimate candlelit table for two and enjoy the delicious 5 course dinner. Comfy robes. Fantastic pool, great local wineries. Full service bar all day up to close of restaurant. Only suggestion, stay in the farthest room from the front door, lots of foot traffic.

Others see it as part of a wider "reset" affecting other longtime three-star spots like Alinea (Chicago) and Masa (New York), which also dropped to two stars at the same time. I'm not completely sure why the slight decline but here's my honest view. The scenic drive from DC through the Virginia countryside sounds breathtaking--rolling hills, charming small towns, glimpses of Blue Ridge Mountains but in actuality all of the turns and hills made myself and friend sick. We had to pull over and gather ourselves. The restaurant itself is gorgeous, filled with artwork, pink, green and gold monkey wallpaper and Victorian tables, and English country style. It's maximalist--opulent without being stuffy. Our waitstaff made the evening extra special for my birthday. They constantly wished me a happy birthday, asked thoughtful questions about my life, shared jokes, and engaged in small talk that felt genuine and personal. Not to mention the menu with my name. Each course on the 7-course tasting menu was beautifully presented. We loved having three menu options to choose from: a new seasonal tasting (always fresh and surprising), Enduring Classics (with signature dishes like the iconic lobster preparations or herb-crusted favorites), and a full vegetarian Good Earth menu with the eggplant course being our favorite. The unlimited warm bread service with fresh butter and flaky sea salt was a simple but perfect touch. The Champagne options were endless (their wine list is legendary, with a massive cellar and expert sommeliers), and they even offered a dedicated book/menu highlighting rare waters from around the world--everything from iceberg sources to unique mineral springs. I've never seen a water book before. Standouts for me was the caviar egg, lamb main course and tomato amuse-bouche. If you're looking for a special occasion spot (birthday, anniversary, or just because), this is it. Four people will run you around $2500 including drinks. Con- I would work on the cocktail menu (the Diana tasted like cough medicine). Bring back the pear dessert and portion sizes from 12 years ago. My main lamb portion was embarrassing. We've been lucky enough to dine at a few Michelin star and bib gourmand restaurants ton include some coveted 3 star spots! A few weeks before our res, we saw the Inn was downgraded from 3 to 2 stars and unfortunately, I can see why from this visit. For context, this visit was $1500 for the 2 of us and included one wine pairing and the cheese cow. At that price point, I would say the meal and experience were not worth it. The food: the food was both great and okay. There are a few dishes that are extremely exciting. I had the vegetarian menu, while my husband had the classics. The egg, carpaccio, eggplant, and cheese cow were the stars. Everything else was good, but not outstanding. Pineapple and Pearls (another Michelin restaurant in DC) offers a more exciting menu at about the same price. The service: this is where the loss of a star became annoyingly apparent to me. It might seem bratty, but for $1500 and a Michelin spot, you expect a napkin folded when you get back from the bathroom and adequate spacing between courses. My husband noted he felt the meal was rushed. For one dish, they brought me the wrong silverware and at the end of the meal, they forgot the coffees we ordered and our takeaway gift (little chocolates in a cutesy paper house). They also asked if we wanted time with our cocktails before the meal began and we said yes, but they brought us the cocktail, wine pairing, and first course all at once. The staff is so kind and awesome! I don't want to take away from how welcoming and nice everyone was. The service itself just lacked *at a Michelin star level*. If I was paying, say, $500 instead of $1500, I would be thrilled with the meal! The ambiance is very cool and true to the brand of The Inn. When you leave the bathroom, you'll see all of the historic guests who have eaten out of Patrick O'Connell's kitchen and it feels a bit surreal. The famous chef did his rounds of the dining room, which frankly was the highlight of the night. He's an absolute legend. Okay, that was a long one. To The Inn, I'm sorry! I wish we could say everything was perfection. I know you'll work out the kinks!

When we entered the room, we were greeted with a bottle of prosecco and chocolate-covered strawberries, which was a lovely touch and set a celebratory tone for the weekend. The room itself was charming, clean, and tastefully decorated, with a comfortable bed and an inviting atmosphere that made it easy to settle in and unwind. Before dinner, we enjoyed cocktails at the bar, which was an excellent start to the evening. The restaurant offers an impressive wine list along with a wide selection of spirits, making it easy to find or request nearly any cocktail. We spent some time reviewing the wine list and initially selected a red, but once seated for dinner, we appreciated the guidance of their wine expert, who helped us choose a white wine that paired beautifully with the meal. For dinner, we selected the Four Course menu because we liked the flexibility of choosing our own individual courses, and it turned out to be an excellent decision. The meal began with outstanding bread served with whipped butter, which was memorable on its own. Each course that followed was beautifully plated, served at the proper temperature, and paced perfectly. The attention to detail was evident throughout the meal, and the overall dining experience felt refined without being overly formal. The following morning, breakfast was another highlight. The frittata was excellent, and the croissant was flaky, buttery, and exactly what you would hope for at a French-inspired inn and restaurant. Service throughout our visit--from the bar to dinner and then breakfast--was consistently professional, attentive, and personable. Every member of the team contributed to a relaxed and memorable experience. Overall, L'Auberge Provencale Inn & Restaurant is a wonderful choice for a romantic weekend getaway. Between the comfortable accommodations, thoughtful amenities, excellent food, and genuinely warm service, it provided the kind of experience that feels both special and personal. We would happily recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing and memorable escape.

It is very cute and charming inside and there were also live musicians when we went. We got the 4 course option and both loved the gnocchi. It was a great balance of the crunch from the salt and the softness of the gnocchi, For the next option, we got the seafood ragout and were delicious ! We loved the seared scallop and the shrimp was cooked perfectly. Below it was a pasta that was close to cous cous. For the third course, I got the beef and it was so good ! It was very tender and melted in my mouth. It was a good portion for the price. It was 165 per person for the 4 course option. The servers were very friendly but sometimes we did have to ask for waters to be refilled. The only downside was the mocktail I got. I ordered a non alcoholic margarita, and it was a little too salty for me but everything else was delightful!

We were in…read moretown for a family reunion and hosted a dinner party at SMI one evening that was among the highlights of the family weekend. Manisha and Prashsant, owners of Stone Manor Inn, were personally involved in making sure all went smoothly with our cocktail and dinner party, and it most certainly did! SMI is a lovely old country inn on 14 acres, I believe, with a number of different venues (indoors and out) for meetings, parties, and weddings. The rooms (7 in total) were eclectic, in a good way. All four of their largest rooms that we occupied were spacious, with king beds and spa tubs with separate showers. All were well maintained and clean upon check-in. We had no complaints. I'm not sure when we will return to the area, but when we do, we will not hesitate to return!

I was on the fence to book this place given its hefty price tag, and glad I went for it and completely agree with the glowing 5 star reviews. The bubbly host Manisha is very warm and welcoming. She cordially gave us a 20 min tour around the property, which was built in 1908, and even gave me a bonus tour of the other rooms afterwards. She kindly answered all of our questions and didn't rush us. The Peacecock Room is the most spacious and best room (aside from the bridal suite), elaborately decorated in peacocks. We loved it! The little touches like the handmade soap, a set of wine glasses, and a wine opener made the stay so memorable and special. While the rooms aren't temperature controlled, the electric flameless fireplace kept the room warm. The double capacity jacuzzi was perfect for my hubby and I and even had lights (some of the other rooms have smaller jacuzzi, so be sure to check). The rooms were clean minus a couple of lady bugs and stink bugs (which is too be expected out in the country). Dr. Fauci's assistant stayed here and Manisha informed us of the extensive sanitation process, even the pillows and decorations are quarantined for 6 days! The backyard is well groomed and really spacious with a nice patio and heat lamp, which kept us warm sitting outside in the frigid winter. Our dog loved running around! You can see the stars and constellations really well. It would make a great wedding venue! The Christmas decorations around the property are really nice. The owners really go the extra mile and put a lot of TLC into the property. The 6 course breakfast is delicious and bursting with flavor. Between the veggie quiche, cheesy potatoes, scone, pancakes, yogurt, and fresh OJ, I was stuffed! The fresh butterscotch scone was divine and devoured my mine and my hubby's! The cheesy potato had a nice spicy kick. Everything was so fresh and delicious. All the courses come out at once on a large tray. While my hubby and I chose to sit at the communal table (the chairs are roughly 6 feet apart), you can take the tray up to your room. Manisha and her family greeted us and thoroughly explained the dishes and chatted with us for a bit, even her son made an appearance! The bed and breakfast has a nice bar with wine, cider, and alcohol based on an honor code system. Water and soda is complementary, they even had Coke 0! The complementary fudgy brownies by the breakfast area during the day were sweet and tasty. Again the little complimentary stuff gives this bed and breakfast a nice resort feel. Very relaxing stay and looking forward to coming back!
