I first came to River Ratz after "Googling" & looking at his Facebook posts/pictures and knew I…read morewanted him to be my artist. At that time I had a small horribly faded angel on my upper left breast that I needed covered. I wasn't in a rush though and took my time talking and researching artists/shops. I contacted him through Facebook messenger to set up a consultation. He promptly responded, which was awesome. We set up a date for me to come in for a face-to-face consultation. When I walked in, he greeted me with a friendly smile. His shop is more clean then some hospitals I've been to. Not only is it very well maintained, but it has cool art work, pieces of history, beautiful wall pieces, and more. It has an extremely welcoming vibe. So after our consultation, I knew even more I made the right choice and would be a repeat customer. My first piece was my horribly faded angel cover-up that's now a big beautifully detailed black and white owl. As a female, my cover-up was in an explicit spot. Dru never made me feel uncomfortable or gross (like some male artists have). He was one-hundred percent professional. Yet, still friendly and even comedic. We did 3 sessions. I am in love with it and get compliments anytime it can be seen. I then came back for my nipple piercings. Again, his shop was remarkably clean and he made me feel at ease. I'm so glad I did them! Next was a conch piercing. Same conditions :-) Me and my friend then came and got matching mini dinosaur tattoos. They turned out perfectly. So we came back again with our other friend and got the PPG!! I got Bubbles and she is the cutest tattoo I have. Since then Dru has tattooed a Unalome, a Namaste symbol, an angel, and another cover up. Also, he has pierced my Ashley and a couple more places in my ears. I highly recommend him if you're wanting a clean shop that gives perfect pieces. Me and my friends are definitely repeat clients for years now.

Brian stated that because the image I was provided came from AI, it was unable to be replicated. I ended up with a tattoo that looked nothing like the reference photo. He added that he likes to "put a little of my own art" on every tattoo that he does. Within the tattoo, there was an image of a world map in which he left out a chunk of North America. I asked him why he did so, and the response was "this is the google stock image" (remember- couldn't use AI but apparently uses google). Would not recommend this artist whatsoever. (Pictures added- black & white AI vs. actual skin result). Erika on the other hand, BEST ARTIST I'VE EVER HAD. Hands down. She completed my Star/moon design on my back & my dreamcatcher on my shoulder. Our conversations were great, she added or changed every detail that I asked for before beginning the tattoo, and was very intent on making sure I liked the final product. Would promote and write her 5 stars as much as possible!!! Leo has amazing script talent. I could not be happier with the quote or mushroom he gave me. The script is a memorial piece and he was very understanding, accommodating, and professional. We added the mushie just for fun, but he did amazing on it!

The staff isn't that friendly, are shouting F YOU and MOTHERF*CKER, Suck my *ss! through the store and outside smoking every 10 min. The guy who did the piercing was nice but bitched the whole time about bad reviews he's had (both times I've been here). I asked for forward helix and rook, and he explained I don't have the anatomy for a rook. Ok, settled on cartilage to balance out other ear. I've had 12 piercings, numerous being cartilage and never once have I gotten 18 barbells in them? The ones he put in were way too big. Catching on everything. Thought the fwd helix looked odd, so I went to where I've gotten All of my other piercings to have them change the jewelry and look at the helix. The cartilage location and gauge was great, it just needed a flat back post so it could swell, but not move around that much or risk being caught on something. I had to have the helix taken out because it wasn't going to heal in that spot, with a barbell, and it's not what I wanted.

If I ever decide to get a third, he'll be my first and only call. For my first, after taking FOREVER to decide and switching my design about 300 times, I ended up getting something completely different than what I gave Archie in my design consultation. Granted, I had a few months to think about it - it takes about 3 months to get into Archie's jam-packed schedule. Yes, he's that good! Archie was very patient and non-judging, emphasizing that tattoos are highly personal and my design should be exactly what I want. I ended up drawing my own and have never regretted it for a second. I wanted it on my foot, which Archie advised was the most painful place, but didn't try to talk me out of it. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I had no idea what colors I wanted when I came for my appointment. We had a great discussion about color theory and went with analogous colors. I couldn't be happier with how it turned out! My second tattoo is especially meaningful. My mom, who is battling the most severe form of MS, wanted a tattoo for her 60th birthday to symbolize her fight. I decided to get one with her and designed the image. Of course, I would go to none other than Archie. He refined the design and supplemented it with beautiful script he created. Hers says, "Strength for today, hope for tomorrow" and mine says, "I'll stand by you". The image is a variation of an awareness ribbon, with the brightest bright orange to really pop - suggested by Archie. Both tattoos have held up incredibly well. I've heard foot tattoos need retouched often, but after 3 years it still looks crisp and beautiful. Aftercare instructions were very clear, and when I had a concern about how my second was healing Archie was happy to answer my questions. He's the only one I trust to stab me thousands of times with a needle!

At first I really liked this shop and would love to give it more stars but unfortunately there are…read moremany cons as well as pros. First shop is clean, bright & welcoming. My artist took her time on design and placement. They use vegan ink. Now the cons, even though they say your touch up is free within the first 6 months that's only if your artist doesn't leave to go to a different shop. Mine left and I was told my "free" touch up could be done but would now cost the new artist's minimum price... which would be $150 or more depending on the artist I chose to do the work. It was not my fault that my artist left... but hey, if you aren't willing to stand behind the work the artists do while employed by your shop or make sure your customers are content and happy with the work that was done in your shop...if your willing to risk your shop's name and reputation because you feel you shouldn't be held accountable for a touch up that was no fault of the customer then that speaks volumes for your character and your business practices. Queen Ink seems very disorganized at best, or at worst like they don't care about getting back to clients who inquire about getting work done. I had 2 tattoos done at Queen Ink within 2 months. Both times I had to make multiple requests for quotes before anyone would get back to me. Both times with Queen Ink I finally sent a 2nd request after the 9th day with no response. If you can afford to lose business then by all means don't answer your emails in a timely manner, however that gives the impression that you don't need the business or care about the customer inquiries... Secondly, they are very expensive and when you receive confirmation that your tattoo was accepted you are asked pay a non-refundable deposit for the work, which is fine. However it specifically states that the deposit will be deducted from the tattoo price given in the quote. It is not. For both of my tattoos I was asked to pay the quote price as well as the deposit ($30 and $40). My daughter was as well. This is in addition to the tip. On both of my quotes I was given a price range that my work would fall in and both time I was of course charged the highest price. When you pay the deposit you are able to use a credit card or PayPal, however when you pay the actual quote for the work you have to pay with either cash or with Venmo which makes me wonder if they are claiming all of their payments on taxes. I would prefer to use a card to pay as I have a record of payments and there is also some consumer protection with using a card that you don't get with cash or Venmo. Other tattoo shops in Cincy will take your payment using a card. Another con is that with both of my tattoos, as well as my daughter's, there were inconsistencies in the work (thinner lines and missing areas) that required touchups. Finally everything is done through email. Every other shop I've been to (Skincraft in Cincinnati and Mothers in NKy) welcomes you to stop in and discuss your design (even on a walk in basis), get a quote, & make an appt. to come back later to have the work done. Pretty in Ink in NKY was also extremely helpful and got back to me the very same day I inquired. While I do like the work this shop did, they don't seem client friendly at all. Honestly, I know you're an artist, but if I'm paying for your work then I do expect a certain amount of professionalism that I don't feel I got here. I got the feeling they felt they were doing me a favor by allowing me to have my tattoos done there instead of having the feeling of gratitude for their customer. As I said you are the artist, but you are working for the client. With a tattoo shop in almost every neighborhood in Cincinnati (and sometimes more than one) I'm not sure this is the kind of attitude to have. I ended up having my next tattoo done at Pretty In Ink in Dayton, Ky. Mandy, the owner, was amazing. I will be going to her from now on. She did a new tattoo and was able to do the touch up I needed on the tattoo that your artist did since you don't seem to feel the need to uphold your shop policy or retain customers.
