Im skurrilen Stil des Rock & Roll wurde dieser vor mehr als einem Jahrzehnt Wirklichkeit. Lange Nächte, laute Musik und viele Persönlichkeiten prägten zu dieser Zeit den Hinterhof. In den nächsten Jahren entwickelte sich die Bar zu dem was sie heute ist. Eine Location in der man sich Wohlfühlt, mit Freunden zusammensitzt und ein paar Drinks sowie Snacks genießen kann. Die jugendliche Feierlaune wich einem eigenen klassisch stilvollen Flair. Damals wie heute ist der Hinterhof die Anlaufstelle für Jung und Alt. They were also really helpful in explaining the menu and how you can get a chug (smaller size) if you don't want the full serving. We wanted to try everything. Our main comment and unfortunately it affected our experience a lot is that smoking is allowed inside. This is not uncommon for bars in this country but they could have provided a pleasant experience for everyone and not just some by not allowing smoking inside. We smelled like smoke and our drinks came with a side of ill health. Other than that, we loved this bar and maybe it won't be raining next time so we can sit outside (where people still smoke but the smoke has somewhere to go).

Genuine atmosphere, a bit dark, just what's needed, with cool music and people. I tried their special menu which basically is a 6-course cocktail tasting (no worries, they all come into the "Chug" size glass;)) through which you'll discover their signature recipes. I have also been very late (post-theater) on a Saturday evening and we never made it inside; we had to sit outside. The decor is subtle and classy. Le Lion is the cradle of the gin basil smash (I had never heard of it until I came here but it seems to be a Hamburg thing). You do pay a premium for the drink but it's the original and it's also a good drink. In conclusion: Come early to get inside for the full speakeasy experience. Come late and understand if you have to sit outside. Don't miss the gin basil smash; they invented it.
