TLDR; This business is run by some incredibly rude, ignorant people, with no customer service skills, who will accuse you of stealing, at the drop of a hat; and I think the only reason they're still in business, is because those people aren't working all the time. ;)
This is one of those, I'd give them zero stars, if I could, type places. I found Bill P's review, to be exactly the experience I myself had at the store. I'm not sure if this other reviewer, is someone who knows the owner, however, I don't find their review to be accurate at all. The person who seems to be claiming to be the owner, is described in the quote below as a, "Total hippie..mellow, friendly guy". That was NOT the case, at all when my friend and I visited his store. My friend and I wanted to make this the last stop of the day, and unfortunately, it turned out to be the worst.. The following part, is taken from Jenny D's review:
"Bill P's review bums me out, just because I know exactly the employee he is speaking about, and she no longer is employed at Glad Rags. Give it another chance, bill! The current staff is super nice, patient, and will help you find what you're looking for. The owner of the store is exactly who you would expect... Total hippie/music lover, mellow, friendly guy who is living his dream by owning this store. You can tell he is happy to be there and happy that you are there, too. The minute you enter his store, you are his friend. Merchandise is fairly priced..."
Nothing in the above statement was true from what I experienced. Not only did the owner act extremely paranoid, following us around and grabbing the things we had picked out, but also had a rude employee. I would like to note at this point in my review, I have NEVER been to this place, and don't plan to go back after this. Therefore I had no idea that either of these individuals worked at this shop. I could not tell from the way they were dressed, and they had no name tags on. At first I thought they were other customers such as myself. If this shop has had such a problem with shoplifting (as far back as 2014 and before it seems..), some effort on their part could help this. Something, anything other than yelling at your customers, and making assumptions about someone who was really enjoying your store and was looking forward to buying, NOT stealing things?
This owner does not seem to have a dressing room at this store, that I saw, even though there are a lot of clothes there. The store is crammed full of them. When we went it was crowded, so to try on a jacket, I set down my other selections as well as my purse. As I was taking it off, the "owner" of the store, came back there and started to watch me... and poke my purse? I was confused at the time but realized afterwards that he was checking if I had put stuff in my purse.. wow! Already assuming we were thieves, simply because we were excited about their store and wanted to buy too many things, interesting..
After I witnessed this odd behavior from the paranoid owner, he grabbed some clothing I had set down to try on the jacket, and started to take away the stuff I had picked out... all without any communication or explanation of what was going on, except for a mumbled, "I don't like the way you guys are acting." Or something to that effect. I quickly gathered my things and came over to the counter, asking if they would prefer we set things on the counter. But instead of communicating at all, the owner harassed my friend, in the same way he had me, and Bill P.
My friend did not appreciate being accused of being a thief, when really she WAS very interested in buying many of their overpriced items. She is someone who is well off, and just that day, we had been out all day, on a shopping spree, and going out to eat. She, and I, definitely have to money to spend there. But these very weird business owners, do not want people's honest money, if they do not shop the way they want them to, they become paranoid, and VERY passive aggressive, instead of just saying, "May I help you?", I just thought that was basic customer service 101 ??
After they accused my friend of trying to steal, for no reason, they also said, for no apparent reason, that she was on drugs, and kicked her out of the store, threatening to call the cops...all because she had started to pick out TOO much stuff, and they figured that meant, she was stealing. The other employee there also said that she could go to Walmart, because that's not how small shops are run. Funny, I also thought small businesses were supposed to have better customer service?
I'm very disappointed this worked out the way it did, we had picked out many things and were planning on spending hundreds at this business, collectively. As it stands now, neither of us will ever go back there, and recommend to everyone we know, that they do not either. Unless they want to have one of the rudest, most offensive, shopping experiences of their lives, of course. read more
