Well, it's sad to say they desperately need help with staffing and Administration, too. Wondering too about the Ombudsman. It's atrocious that they can't follow HIPAA guidelines or hold family conferences to provide updates on patient care for out-of-state members. It's like putting the sole responsibility on the patient for inviting them, when it's their responsibility. Geez, what a crap shot administrative concept, and the communication is questionable. From day one of my mother's stay for rehabilitation, they were given my phone number as well as my email address to track her progress. Since they don't have a patient portal where you can review documents, this feat was difficult for them to even comprehend. Let's say it's more about chasing after them to see anything given, maybe only at the time of discharging the patient, in a fury. It was evident from day one, stepping in to help my mother, that I questioned the operational integrity. I tried to reach the Director of Clinical Services, but her voicemail was out until 01/26/26. It was already February 15th, and it never got changed, though supposedly she was there. I questioned whether they ever had operational or staffing meetings to get everyone on the same page (?). Either way, after all the caustic situations with her at Glacier Hills Rehabilitation/Trinity Health, we decided to file a Grievance, and now I'm waiting to receive the documentation from the Corporate Office in Livonia, Michigan, from Julie Winkel, Corporate Administrator. I feel lucky that we filed a Medicare Appeal referencing non-quality care, which hopefully they'll get a State Audit. read more

Glacier Hills is all about the money. They could care less about peoples health from my point of view. My opinion is they have knowingly exposed workers and residents to harmful asbestos on many occasions. From my point of view they knew it was there and dangerous but choose to not disclose it to the workers or the seniors living there and allowed it to be removed causing exposure to workers and residents with no safeguards. They were investigated by the state and had 4 serious violations for this and and settled it. They continued to risk exposure after this investigation from my point of view. My mom is staying here. I have called the switchboard to get transferred to her room, and everyone has been very helpful. Until I met Peggy. She answered today and refused to transfer me to my mom's room and hung up on me when I questioned her. When I called back and asked for a supervisor, she said one is not available. This is an incredibly rude, sarcastic woman who should be fired immediately. I will advocate to have my mom transferred elsewhere. Just imagine how Peggy treats the patients when no one is watching. She is a liar and because of her I could not each my mom tonight. Pathetic. read more

The rehab part of Glacier Hills is a huge black mark on the medical profession. Nurses attempt to care for 40 patients or more at once. Obviously the result is POOR care. They would just as soon allow a patient to lie in their own excrement. I never once was offered a basic sponge bath, let alone a shower and I had to ask for clean sheets. I requested pain meds at 6:00pm. I got them at midnight. read more

I was a resident at Glacier Hills this year. it is a beautiful facility and some of the professional staff were quite good. However, I was assigned to a case worker who was very nasty and incompetent. He apparently monitored me every day. I don't believe he was an RN or LPN. He was abusive, both verbally and when giving care. I reported his behavior on the first day, but he continued to be assigned to me for the entire stay. Other staff members seemed to make excuses for him. I had severe breathing problems while there and he screamed at me when I said I couldn't breathe when he was moving me to another room. instead of helping me to calm down, he screamed at me to stop yelling. He apparently had no knowledge or interest in learning how to treat residents who are anxious or in distress. The whole experience was a nightmare. read more

Glacier Hills is part of Trinity Health, a very large company only concerned with the bottom line. Residents suffer because management won't properly staff because they have to make budget. Staff are reprimanded for clocking in early but med errors and neglect are ignored. This company does not care about its residents or staff. Residents do not receive proper medical care. Many things and many people to like here. The facility is clean and well kept. Staff is generally quite positive and in the vast majority of cases, I believe truly care. Nutritionist and one general care givers were real stand outs, though no interactions were negative. The issue is staff response times. It was not unusual to wait over an hour for a nurse (or someone) to respond to a call button. What if it was a true emergency? Waiting for an escorted bathroom visit? In some instances, medication was delivered over two hours late due to someone having called off. Hesitated whether to write this review. Healthcare is a tough field, especially these days and most of the people here seem to really try. Wrote the review because in the sitting area between hallways there is a door with glass that is covered so no one can see in. I was in the sitting area for at least twenty minutes one day and no one went in or out. It turned-out that behind that door is a very small "office" where three employees (at least one was a nurse) were laughing and chatting and appeared to be socializing, not working. No wonder response times are delayed. That is simply not acceptable. At minimum, take the cover off the glass so this is no longer a place to hide. In fairness, we are making assumptions that the moment someone opened the door to go in was not an exception and they were actually working but with one sitting on the desk swinging legs, etc. sure did not appear to be the case. read more

I wish I could give negative stars. Minus 10. My dad who had Parkinson's and Kidney disease had to go to rehab to regain strength after an illness in 2019. This hellhole was recommended by UM and St. Joe's. The facility is the worst thing that happened to him. Incredibly understaffed with people who had no idea what they were doing. Getting them to put him on a kidney friendly diet was excruciating. I had to go over every meal with the staff and even then they'd send foods that he shouldn't eat. The dietitian was never available for appointments, and when we had an appointment, she never showed up. The rehab staff was generally good. I attended most of his sessions and he did improve. What bothered me was their eagerness to drop a session if dad's food hadn't arrived or if dad was in the bathroom. He only got half of his sessions because they took any excuse to cancel a session. The staff was negligent to the point of endangering my dad's life. They gave him meds that were forbidden on his chart. I was there every day for 30 days and it was a nasty surprise every freaking day. He'd be out of it because of the drugs, he'd be hyper because of the drugs. He'd be in tears because he was being treated roughly and sustained bruises. I was the one who changed his clothes and diaper. I was the one who made sure he had food on time. I packed a meal to take with me because I was there for up to 10 hours a day to protect him. I couldn't take him out of there because of his insurance. If I took him out, they wouldn't allow him to go to another facility and I would be at home with him with no knowledge of how to help him. They decided to give him an indwelling catheter and the idiot nurse who put it in didn't bother to clean him or use lidocaine to numb him. The result was intense pain, bleeding and a urinary tract infection that went undiagnosed for days, which caused him delirium and a fever. Of course, he had to go on antibiotics which further worsened his dementia. I complained about the shoddy treatment and that moronic nurse who injured him with the catheter. The result was that the staff closed ranks and refused anything to do with my dad. On the day of his release, I arrived early to find a cache of staff waiting for me at the elevator, barely speaking to me. I found my dad in his room, dressed, everything packed. They had had him sign the release papers, even thought he had dementia from the urinary tract infection and antibiotics and had no idea what was going on. They scoffed when I asked for directions for how to deal with the catheter (indwelling) and refused to tell me anything. Nobody went over his meds, or any instructions for his care. I gave them all the finger as I wheeled my poor dad out of there. This was nothing but trauma for him and I hate these incompetent nincompoops for what they did to him. He slept for a week straight once he got home and begged me to never send me there again. I tell everyone I know about this place. Avoid it at all costs. Your loved one deserves better than this shoddy excuse for a healthcare facility. read more

This is the best rehab center in the area. I came from three nights at St. Joseph Hospital with a knee replacement done by Dr.Karl Schultz to rehab from mid October to November 6. The care was excellent with patient and kind staff, sometimes overworked from staffing shortages, like other facilities. The RN director was bringing in trainees while I was a patient. The food was good with many options to choose from. Here are some recommendations. 1. Bring a long, sturdy barbeque tongs with serrated edges to pick up dropped items. 2. Bring two to three satin pillowcases. They make sliding pillows around under knees much easier. 3. Check with RN Director to see if there is a safe freezer to put your own knee ice wrap in. Otherwise, have staff use TWO , 13 gallon? trash bags to put ice in for knees, and tie loosely at the top. 4. Make sure bathroom door is closed for warmth when showering two? times per week. 5.ALWAYS keep call button where it won't drop on floor. 6.ALWAYS keep bedside table parallel and closet to bed, not left across the room when staff comes to turn off call light and they have to move it.7. Bring two hardware store, two inch clamps, plus zippered, square bag to hang from walker handles, and put your non spill water container in. Rehab beds do NOT have railings, so clamps came in very handy for corded, bed positioner remote and any other items. List complete. Enjoy your stay! read more

To give you my point of view, I work in administration at a similar type of care facility. I'm not taking away from what others have experienced, I can only say that our experience was much different. When I first walked in, the facility was clean and organized. While that doesn't always indicate the quality of care, it is a good first sign. The front desk was careful about making sure visitors checked in. I appreciate that they are keeping an eye out. There was complimentary coffee in the lobby and a cafeteria in the basement. When you are visiting, it is nice to have these service on site. My father was here due to a stroke and was not always the easiest person to have as a resident. The RNs and PTs were universally good in addressing my father's pain and rehab needs. I have to particularly complement the PT in encouraging my father to take part in physical therapy. Most of the CNAs were good with repositioning my father but there were a few who did not show enough caution when repositioning his leg where a part the ankle bone had been removed because of an infection. Any movement of the leg was painful and any sudden move was excruciatingly painful. No one wants to be in a facility like this. If any of my relatives were to need this type of assistance again, I'd be comfortable with having them stay here. read more

I expected more. Nursing staff very stretched. I am a rehab patient and most of floor seems to be nursing home. Few areas not up to my expectations: Impossible to talk to doctor or ask questions Any special treatment (I.e: compression stockings) take 4-5 days to put on. Patient lights have taken 45 minutes to answer Not enough staff to walk patients or give scheduled showers I don't get why rehab patients are bound by nursing Covid guidelines. Been here since Sept. 24. No visitors at all, not even to look through window. Therapists seem good. I'm not a therapist, however I think they could be a little more aggressive. Both PT & OC are alway ready for my appointment. With all the negative in my review, I will say nurses are friendly and trying their best with number of patients they are dealing Two in last 24 hours have said they wanted to leave & were calling Administration. Bottom line - look elsewhere for inpatient rehab! read more

My father is here and is very comfortable. He enjoys meeting the residents at concerts and in the dining area. Very caring staff, too.

This place is not what it used to be. Growing up in Ann Arbor, this place was the 5-star place to go if you needed rehab or long-term care. Not any more. My Mom had a fall and was discharged here to try to regain the ability to walk. While there are some nice, well-meaning people here, they are massively under-staffed. There are just not enough people on the floor to take care of the residents who need their help. One evening I arrived to find my Mom puking into a trash can and with vomit on her shirt - she told me one of the women on the floor was aware and went to get help, and then they seemed to think we were being high maintenance to want to get her out of her vomit-stained clothing. More than an hour passed before anyone appeared. Continuity of care was another huge issue - it seems there is a new doctor every week, limited oversight of PT/OT and patient progress, and just no continuity of care. Two months later my mother still couldn't walk - not their fault, though they certainly could have been better - and then they were all about "Medicare gives you 60 days, she's not progressing, what's your plan, tick tock....." with no doctor who seemed to have a big picture view of what was going on with her. It is also very difficult to get anyone on the phone there who is on the floor - why do they let the head nurse even have voicemail if she'll never listen to the messages, and you literally must drive over there to get her attention? (Not kidding - she literally said she is too busy to listen to voice mail). It is a very expensive place, they are way over-extended and most of the food looked pretty unappealing to boot. Having said that, I have no better ideas on where to go in the area - but our experience at Glacier Hills was poor. PS - my Mom left 9 months ago and just the other day we received a first-time straggling invoice, nearly a year after her departure.....not impressive. read more

Under staffed. Social worker very nasty after I wanted to change from Outside PT to Home care. My mom was there 20 days. At discharge the only person who handled was the Nurse she never read the instructions had to keep calling Doc for answers. Didn't give me enough Medication for release. I Called Nurse PA on Monday for scheduling rehab for my mom at home ,she said someone would call in the next couple hours it is now Friday and NO ONE HAS CALLED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Social worker told me rehab agency would call within 72 hours of discharge that was 4-12 it is now 4-19 and NO ONE HAS CALLED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Had my mom sign things that I have no copy of. They are more worried about the $2.25 phone bill charge per day for phone in room............Good thing there was a family member present during stay. read more

My mom stayed at Glacier Hills after her leg surgery for one month, October 2017. As her family, we cannot say enough good things about this place. The care is excellent from doctors to nurses to aids to PT's to OT's to dining staff to receptionists. This place provides the family with peace of mind that their loved ones are cared for and looked after in such a professional loving way. My mother had a bit of medical complications a couple of weeks after after she got there, and Dr. Jeng was very instrumental in getting her surgeon at UM hospital to admit her back for further observation. She stayed at UM hospital for two days and came back to the same room at Glacier Hills, which made the whole experience less traumatic for our mother. We recommend this facility to anyone who needs temporary medical care. read more

The Glacier Hills Rehabilitative Care Center was a horrific experience for our family, especially my mom who was subjected to the unprofessional, inadequate, uncaring staff of nurses' aides as well as nurses. I ended up pulling my mom out of there, when she showed possible symptoms of a stroke or other major health issue, which the staff had noticed, but did not bother to contact our family or a doctor. This is just the tip of the iceberg of the horrible "care" she received there. I urge you to check out other rehabilitative care facilities. Do not be fooled by the lobby with the fireplace. Aesthetically it looks okay, but the staff has no compassion and is irresponsible. read more

A surprisingly terrible place. My mother had rehab there and they were unattentive, often rude, did not answer the buzzers, did not empty the commode by her be for 24 hours, gave her a double dose of medicines once...it is just so bad we could hardly believe it- . A pretty facility but the staffing and organization is haphazard and dangerous for your loved one- stay away- really run poorly. Start asking around and you will find others who have experience d the same poor care- looks good on the outside but really rotten care. ALso the food is terrible and you order one thing and get another...consider other options. Wish I could give it zero stars. read more

I would definitely recommend The Care and Rehabilitation Center at Glacier Hills, they did a commendable job helping a family member recovery from a traumatic surgery and a very bad post-surgical infection caused by the negligence of another care center in Ann Arbor. I would not hesitate to send anyone here based on the 2 months of care and service I saw. read more

My father went into Glacier Hills for a 2 week rehab after an illness. We had been to U of M hospital before coming to GH and the plan was that he would do the rehab there and proceed into a pulmonary rehab at U of M. The specialist at U of M said he saw no reason why my father wouldn't recover and be able to live a quality life after rehab. My dad was at GH for less than a week when we realized what a mistake we made. I came to visit and found my dad passed out on the commode when he was supposed to have an aide in the room when using it; I could go on and on; this was just one issue we experienced. The last few days he was there family members stayed the night so we knew he was getting the care he deserved. Over the time he was there I heard a man in another room crying out several times for someone to help him as I saw aides congregated outside the door of his room socializing. We complained several times and never got results. It took us about 4 days to get him out of there - at this point we were looking for hospice, where we were thinking rehab before. He was at the hospice for less than 24 hours when he passed on. The hospice said he was admitted with oxygen toxicity. GH was supposed to be qualified rehab for a patient with pulmonary needs, I called several facilities before choosing GH and decided to go with them because they portrayed the facility as qualified. I also chose GH because they had a great reputation. I found later that the reputation was built on a former version of the facility - it was now under new management. I would strongly advise against using this facility - I wish I had someone tell me before I lost my dad. read more

Well, long story short, I wouldn't leave my cat for a weekend stay at Glacier Hills. My father was at the Manor for two years and that was two years too many. As his health became poorer they refused to allow my family to hire a private aid for his care. Instead, they insisted on moving him to a floor where there was "plenty of assistance." My father, who was unable to stand without assistance, was left alone in the bathroom on numerous occasions - sometimes for longer than 45 minutes, his meals were rarely delivered on time and breakfast was mainly forgotten - all on their "assisted living" floor. He often sat alone for hours in his apartment without any aids or nurses checking on him. He was also left alone on at least two occasions in the shower. Not only was his care sub-standard, but when I tried to remove my father from the premises, I was bullied and cajoled by GH management. I felt that they were more interested in my father's $$ than his care. During transfer of my father from the facility, to our home, one of the administrators looked at me sternly and pronounced, "Well, he'll probably only live for two months." The reality is that my father lived with us for almost 4 years with consistent attention and care by family members and professional healthcare/private aids. A final note: I am posting this after lots of consideration. One has to be very careful about making on-line posts about GH and its sub-standard services. GH will do anything they can to discredit unhappy patients, residents and family members from telling the truth - and that is the absolute truth. One previous reviewer states "If you report abuse you or your loved one will be banned." I concur with that statement, but I'd like to add that frankly, GH will be doing you and your family a favor if they do ban you from their premises. read more

GH needs competition. it's gone downhill even more since Trinity Health took over. have heard happiness and glowing reports from residents of the retirement center in Chelsea. read more

My family and I are very unhappy with the management at Glacier Hills. Both our parents lived there and while the staff was caring and competent, the management was focused on revenues and cost containment. Shortly after my mother's death, and due to a mix up with insurance, my elderly father was threatened with eviction. Very disappointing that the management chose not to contact a family member despite the fact that we were there at least weekly, and the staff knew us by name. Once we became aware of the situation, it was resolved in a matter of days. Don't get on the wrong side of the administration, they are more interested in the bottom line than in providing compassionate care for their residents. read more

If you care about your family, do not send them to this place. My mom just survived a brain aneurysm 3 weeks back. She was airlifted to U of M hospital where they saved her life. The last three weeks she has fought hard to recover. This place had a representative that came and convinced us that it is '5 star' overstaffed facility, where she would receive the best care and rehabilitation. This was a lie. She waited the first 3 hours before anyone came in to admit her. By this time it was 8:30pm. I left thinking they would take care of her. By 2 am she had to go back to UofM emergency because she couldn't breathe. No one had suctioned her. No one there bothered to call me or my two sisters to tell us of this happening. I came in at 12:30pm after her being brought back at 10:30 am. Finding her not hooked up to her oxygen, the (super loud) machine off, no water in it. Her feeding tube, still full, not hooked to her marked as opened at 9pm the night before. Her call button on a table 4 feet from her reach. Her feet, legs, and gown covered in feces. I push the call button and no one comes to see about it for 20 minutes. I start to look around to find who is here working. One lady is playing on her phone in front of a computer, the other just coming from eating lunch. The later comes in and doesn't know why her machine is off, how long, or who shut it off. Never even recognizes that my mom has poop all over herself. After her excuses, the head nurses excuses, and threats of retaliation from the insurance companies if I removed her, I finally see the staff doctor, wearing a UofM white doctors coat, she says she will arrange for her to go back to U of M. Back at the emergency now my mom is broken in her spirit to fight and wishes that she could just be let to die. Now I have to figure out a new place for her to go. My advice would be to avoid this place, or suffer the pain of watching your loved one be degraded, and made to feel like their life is not worth living. Unbelievable that someone can go from such a great come back to having their spirit brought down in less than 24hrs. Also, no pillow case on her pillow, and they gave her a glass of ice water knowing she cannot eat or drink right now. Never seen the cena worker use gloves, only the head nurse who came in to threaten me. read more

Every day is a crisis here! Do your homework for $460/day. Our elderly family member was a resident in a private room ($460/day) in Glacier Hills long term care pavilion for 33 days. We found both services and care to be substandard: not all outlets in room worked; she wasn't enrolled in promised facility programs for weeks if at all; and never received requested Geri chair or attachable 02 tank for wheelchair. Day 3 Was put in diapers permanently and expected to use which she fought against because she could use commode if assisted. Bladder scanner to detect urine retention was broken almost entire time she was there. Oxygen machine not correctly attached on at least two occasions leading to episodes of confusion and loss of responsiveness. Met with management/care team on Day 16 after admission requesting that the facility's stated Standards of Care be implemented. Voiced our concerns that loved one was not being assisted regularly with eating, not being toileted regularly waiting long periods of time, not being moved or positioned in bed etc. Also verbalized a concern that she would develop skin break down and bladder infection. Management claimed they were not aware of any care problems but would make efforts to improve. Two days after meeting with management our loved one was disoriented seeing people and bugs in her room although she had previously been mentally alert. When asked to check her blood O2 level found that it was very low. Finally we called evening supervisor to check and found that O2 tubing had not been properly connected to machine. After O2 was corrected disorientation and agitation were relieved. She developed urinary tract infection Day 19 but family not informed and found out only by accident. Even after UTI diagnosis, it was difficult to get staff to toilet her, which increased her restlessness, agitation and decline. Before Day 25 tailbone and heels red and painful. She died on Day 33. It is heartbreaking and inexcusable that she received such lack of caring in this facility at such large expense. It is distressing to consider what would have happened without the family's constant watchfulness and advocacy. For $460 a day there are many other alternatives for care. Think about it. read more

my wife spent 3 nights here and i could say this was the worst experience in a long time. they actually said they ran out of food one night! say what? poor poor and poor! the so called cadillac has turned into a model t! i'm still thinking of filing a report to the state! one of the worst experiences we have ever had! the pt and ot were very good but everything else fall very short of expectations! absolute teenager behavior of some of the employees and on the weekend when supervisors are not present! ended up taking my wife to u of m emergency to never return. read more

If you report abuse you or your loved one will be banned. My Mother received care in the Care and Rehabilitation Center and numerous times her oxygen was left off or not even turned on which could have caused her death. We attempted many times to work this out with the nurses and nurse managers. We finally reported them to the State after we overheard another resident saying her oxygen was not put on. Glacier Hills did receive a State citation and was suppose to be required to correct this situation. We also encountered an aide by the name of Diane who didn't want to lift my Mother to bed or to a chair and instead threw her on multiple occasions. We did report this abuse to the Nurse Manager and it is my understanding she still works there. The PT and OT are excellent and that is the reason we wanted to return however, we have been banned. Glacier Hills Bill Hancock told me that they are unable to accommodate my Mother's needs now and that they still are offering the same care that we were unhappy about. He was not able to offer any further information and kept repeating the above phrase. If this is true and your loved one needs oxygen and or transferring from a bed to chair beware!!!! This is very unethical behavior and Glacier should be able to receive constructive criticism without retaliation against their clients. read more
