I was so glad that Google Maps have incorrectly placed this marker on the map (which has since been…read morerectified after I notified them), putting it a lot further north than it actually was. I had just reached the bottom of Mount Macedon and wanted to have a beer at the two pubs here, but was worried that I was going to miss the train. Fortunately, when I turned onto Mount Macedon road, there it was, in the direction of the railway station. This was certainly a really nice pub, and has been done up a lot since the Google car went past. There is an awesome deck out the front, and a garden out the back for engagement parties (there was one on at the time). Mind you, when I went inside to order a beer the bar was crowded with the regulars, all sitting there drinking their beers, and the bartender new exactly what they wanted. However, it is a great little pub in one of those towns that Melburinans (like me) visit for weekend daytrips.

After sorting out some dinner it was close to 9pm before we decided to sort out some accomodation. Two unanswered phone calls to caravan parks and we gave the Comfort Inn a call, and Susan answered straight away. Although the check in desk was slated to close at 9, she was more than happy to organise us two rooms and hang back to check us in. Upon arriving we found the whole motel clean tidy and up to date. Over the years I have done extensive travelling for business both across Australia and overseas, and. I would have to say walking into my room reminded me of walking into a room in a Marriott or similar hotel across the United States. My Dad, who by his own admission is a picky old coot, was extremely impressed with not only the quality of the fit out but the cleanliness and obvious upkeep of the facilities. I would highly recommend this motel to anyone looking for a one night stop or an extended stay in the area. I will certainly be heading back with wife in tow for a quiet getaway ASAP!

That is probably the best position for a pub because it means all of the workers will pop in here for a drink after a long train journey. When my parent's came over to Melbourne recently and stayed at my Uncle's place, it gave me a great excuse to come up here and have a drink. Mind you my auntie was quite surprised to find out that I knew that there was a pub opposite the railway station, but as my Dad mentioned, I happen to know where all of the pubs are. This was a pretty nice pub, and the cheerful welcome I received when I stepped in through the door goes to show, once again, that country pubs are quite different to their metropolitan counterparts (I never receive a hearty welcome when I walk into the Transit Bar). There is also a beer garden, but I would probably move away from 'beer garden' to describe it more like a backyard, something else that seems to be common with pubs out here.
