The Biltmore Bar & Grill - Truly awesome steak: the petit chateau with Guinness and soy reduction

I imagine it's even better at night. The cocktails were very pricey but absolutely perfect in every way. I didn't enjoy the food I ordered , the beef tartare, but that was purely because I didn't realise that it was going to be raw meat and it disturbed me somewhat! I would highly recommend this place but make sure you've got plenty of money to spare.

Take their Freaky Music Friday's for example which is a total must if, like me, you love a really good dance off. I stumbled in here with two work colleagues on a bitterly cold sleepy Wednesday night. I confess mostly I was happy to get out of the cold but I was ultimately lured in by the Wednesday's Half Price Steak night. We were not disappointed. I'm not so bothered by décor as I'll take good food over posh wallpaper any day, but if it's your thang then this place is very nicely styled. We quickly skimmed over the excessively priced wine list, selected a discounted Happy Hour bottle of Malbec and headed straight to the decent choice of cut price steak list. Overall I can't begin to recommend highly enough: 1. The steak - probably one of the best I have ever had, so tender, melt in the mouth tasty and a total bargain £17.00 for their 300g petit chateau (that's the best cut from the middle of a fillet btw) 2. The amazing Guinness and Soya reduction. It was a tough call to divert my attention away from the amazingly sublime smokey peppercorn I'd chosen but I couldn't resist dipping into my colleagues more than a few times after the first taste! 3. The service. Superbly attentive, perhaps a little too keen but it was a quiet night 4, The Happy Hour half priced bottle of Malbec and bargain steaks. We were unanimous in our 'too stuffed for desert or coffee' verdict so I can't comment on anything else on the menu on this occasion but I am persuaded enough to come back here again and not just to swing my booty about on a Freaky Friday Dance night. 10/10 Biltmore Bar & Grill.

After a heavy night I took my friend here for brunch. On the outside it looks closed. Walking up the stairs exposes a open kitchen and large seating area with cacti everywhere and a cool kat clock over looking the place. The service was enjoyable from start to finish..90 percent of staff including the chef looked genuinely happy to be working there dancing to the music smiling as they cooked and served. It gave it a buzz! The menu consists of well..a American diner..from the special board I chose the maple pecan nut shake and the Benny crab cakes.. my friend had the spinach and poached eggs dish with fresh mint tea. The Shake was huge and yummy and while I waited for my food I kept seeing indulgent stacks of pancakes being whisked away. My poached eggs were oozy and perfect and the crab cakes.. well very crabby! And rich..to break it up there was water melon on the side which refreshed the palette. My friend really enjoyed hers too. I really want to come back here :( please extend your opening times!!

We took the train after a week of exploring London, found our accommodations, walked through all the shops that had just closed, and came across Pavement Vaults. There's a kids' menu and it doesn't have just the ol' regular stuff on it. It has ribs. But also pizza and Mac and cheese for those who like the same old (as at least one of our kids tends to). But it also has tasty, flavorful food for the adults. As in American inspired BBQ. We didn't expect to encounter BBQ. But it had just the right spice and we needed it to warm up. The wine menu was just right and my husband enjoyed a beer. The service was top notch. The music was good too. And, nice clean bathrooms. That's important when you're spending weeks traveling. Loved the pulled pork sandwich. The fries are skinny and spicy, but not so much that my daughter didn't eat a bunch. Two in our party enjoyed the ribs. 'Falls off the bone.'

Further at the back is where the pizzas are being made and served. They had some really nice and reasonably priced beers on. They also had a board with the beers and prices which I always like. I chose half a porter which I have forgotten the name of and then it was pizza time. We wanted one that was called American something and had pulled pork on it but were told the pork had run out. They offered to replace with chicken/ham/bacon but that didn't sound as appealing so our second choice was a ham and pineapple as I appear to have come full circle and now love pineapple as a pizza topping again. This was £7.50 for a decent size pizza and was really tasty, though maybe a bit too saucy. I'm not sure I would come here specifically for pizza, but I imagine it's a good place to meet with a group of friends. I would definitely come back for beer and would probably end up ordering pizza, if that makes any sense.

I am rarely this impressed by steak quality outside of the US. And the wine list! My only comment -- but maybe this is just from an American used to farm-to-table food -- is that just like everywhere else in England, I wish there were fewer fried things and more vegetables on the menu (although the tomato side salad was amazing). Waitstaff were very attentive and friendly. Hubby ordered onion rings which were hand battered and delicious. I ordered cod and vegetable risotto which were fine but not remarkable. Broccolini with blue cheese sauce barely had any blue cheese or sauce and was hard, not cooked really much at all. I left half of the serving. We had bread pudding for dessert which was also okay. I didn't find the seasoning of the food to be adequate and maybe salt and pepper on the table would have helped this. By the time our food came out, the waitstaff was busy so I didn't have a ready opportunity to ask for salt. And should I have to ask? This place has a charming interior but i'd suggest drinks here, not dinner.
