So we expected something like terrible pub full of smokers with beer. Fortunatelly it's nothing like this. We were finely surprised, they serve a lot of regional wines and schnapps. The meals are made of fresh and seasonal ingredients. The chef also takes care of the look the dishes on your plate, so don't expect big portions of food which you can't eat, but expect tasty good looking food (with flowers and design). And also we must mention the staff - it's very nice and helpful. There is also no problem with gluten-free dishes - the allergens are written directly in the menu. And if you want the dish which includes the gluten according to the menu, just ask the staff, if they can make it without it for you. The huftsteak (which I learned was rump steak) was a satisfying 220 gm and cooked exactly to my specification. I added a pepper sauce and a delicious side of grilled mixed veggies. It was all quite delicious. Schmid's has an extensive beer menu with 7 on tap and a comprehensive range of 80!bottled beers and ciders. In addition, a large number of wines are available. Service was very friendly (staff were fluent with English) and the establishment has an atmosphere that would not be out of place in any university town with touches of corrugated iron and rough sawn (but properly finished) timber and engaging background music. Should I return to Krems am Donau, I'll be coming back to Schmid's for sure.
