But walking past recently I was lured inside by a gob-smackingly gorgeous Camilla kaftan they had draped on a mannequin in the front of the store. While I was in there rifling through the rails, my delighted gaze fell upon what was appropriately called a "Goddess Dress". And, yes, it was truly divine - a beautiful, light-as-air, floaty, fuschia and bright orange silk maxi that I could just see myself wafting around Brisbane in. A lesson in this season's colour blocking trend - the Queensland way. In other parts of the store, there's a lot of "formal" styles that aren't my cup of chai latte, but I'd definitely send any future mothers-of-the-brides and bridesmaids here too - the hand woven, hand dyed fabrics are stunning, and the colourways are dazzling.

When I looked around there proved to be other more casual items, things you could actually wear more than once. The less formal clothing was lovely, but I got the feeling the speciality is really more formal dresses and such. This is a unique store. Every piece in here is made of hand woven, hand dyed silk. Not only do they offer beautiful dresses and other items, they also have a collection of simple wedding dresses.

We were left to our own devices after an initial, "Can I help you?" from the gentleman working on the day we visited and with several areas dedicated to mirrors you'll walk through the store gingerly. Best of all we could leave that day with our newly purchased piece. No waiting for ordering or delivery. From small accent mirrors to grand Art Deco statement designs, Mirror Gallery has a variety of pieces and truly something to fit all budgets. One looked perfect near the entrance, but as I entered the store to make comparisons, the woman who was working there said :- " You're a dangerous size to be wondering around mirrors". I was a little hurt, but after only a few minutes, she said " You don't have to return through the shop to leave, you can go out the side." Even though the mirror I loved was within my budget, ( $500.00 ), I refused to buy from anybody that hurtful. No one, especially someone wounded fighting for this great country that is so easy to live in, & so many wish to migrate to, should allow a "Sales Person" to make incorrect assumptions about a clients size. ( My injuries are spinal related & I'm in great pain constantly, & unable to exercise , walk far, run etc. so I'm fairly large.) This place sells London Rebel shoes - quite nice styles and surprisingly affordable - as well as relevant fashion styles and some really standout jewellery pieces and accessories. They also occasionally sell some Sass & Bide. I was drawn in by the really distinctive skirts and dresses. You pretty much have your pick of styles here; if you need festival fashions, just ask to see their playsuits and shorts; if you want a cute weekend outfit, take your pick of the patterned dresses. Or go more casual and choose a cami with one of their remarkable jewellery pieces. Side Street is another great stop on a Paddington shopping day.

They have a lot of gorgeous clothes in here, ranging from casual to special occasion styles, for men and women. I was stoked to find the dress I eventually bought, and on sale for only $20. They stock all the conventional standbys in business wear as well as some cool variations on the traditional which will appeal to the fashion forward corporate types. I went there to buy a couple of new shirts before a job interview a few years ago and came away with two shiny new additions to my wardrobe and surprisingly, change from $100. One of the finds, a fine white cotton number with a small collar and buttons down to the navel, has become one of my favourites for its casual yet stylish look and comfortable feel. Manly is a great place to wander. There are so many great little shops and cafes right on the water…read morefront. Butterfly on the Bay caught my eye last weekend. I found it to be a stylish little boutique with a great range of chic women's clothing in lots of sizes. Bright, colourful fabrics jump out at you when you walk in. The clothing style is largely feminine and floaty. Lots of delicate, colourful dresses with belts at the waist and gorgeous chunky necklaces to accessorise. I could have easily bought a whole outfit just off the window dummies.

There's not a lot of boutique-y opposition in Manly but what there is have their own niches. Their "Cue in the City" branch I am not as much a big fan of (it's cheaper but also cheaper quality) so I prefer Cue itself. They do go through seasons of being awesome and then seasons of being crappy, but when they are on, they are on fire. And they do have sales pretty frequently, so keep your eyes open. I have purchased some truly beautiful items from here which have lasted for years so I definitely recommend. I have been in this particular store several times and the staff have always been great. Not too pushy but happy to give advice/options if asked. And willing to see if another store has the right size.
