Dotti fills a certain market niche. Mid 20s is the cut off for most shoppers. It's for the girl who likes pretty, boho and flirty. The kind of girl who will graduate to Sportsgirl and Portmans if they get an office job. The price range gives them practice for that, for sure.
Everything is made in China and it's the rare item that is genuine leather or wool. Most items are cotton, poly or viscose. The poorer cousin is Valley Girl, Ally and Ice. Dotti is better quality, thus the price hike, but the styles are the much the same, with exception that Dotti avoids anything too wild these days. If you need something with a bit of an exotic dancer twist, try Ice.
Maturer shoppers could benefit from the occasional trip here. They do get some lovely prints for button shirts and work tops and skirts. Be prepared to pay around $50 to $80 depending on fabric and cut.
I've seen Dotti grow up since the mid 90s. In the early days the quality was more like they were sewn by home ec high schoolers, however they had a lot more Australian made. They also used to bring in hand picked genuine retro clothing from the States. Its probably hard to believe they used to have a lot of goth, grunge and raver gear. But I guess even if they have now gone very girly, they have survived, and for any Aussie rag company that's good. read more
