Social norms dictate that one must bring gifts to said baby showers and Savvy Aunty duties just mean that you get to buy the things for no reason other than to be the "cool" Aunty. Either way, both of these eventualities lead me to stores like Eeni Meeni Miini Moh. Previously only located on James Street, the Toowong Village renovations have meant there's space for this dedicated kids boutique (from newborn to about 5ish by the look of the clothes on display) to call the Inner-West home. I stopped in recently on a mission for gifts for a friend's upcoming baby shower and was greeted by a range of neatly organised clothes for girls on one side and young gents on the other. In between are shelves of cool trinkets, games and other accessories. It is on the higher price point and certainly not at your Kmart $3 onesie level. That said, for a keepsake gift such as a blanket or for a stylish "spoil your niece/nephew" gift, then here is just where you need to be shopping.

It's like shopping in Best & Less for your kids clothing... but it's all kids clothing. No adults... it's fantastic. You can get everything from newborn to bigger kids here, accessories, hats, shoes even, blankets, beanies... it's like a cheaper Pumpkin Patch, and their clothes are pretty good quality if you ask me. They have some pretty nice 3 pack short sleeve onesies for $9 which is a bargain really. They're usually about $30 for 1 at Pumpkin Patch, so gone are the days you will suffer at the hands of expensive childrens clothing (Yes, you SEED and you Pumpkin Patch, and to an extent, cheaper than even you Cotton On Kids!). I love this place, you can get some cool T-Shirts for your boys and princess skirts and dresses for your gals. It's got it all in my opinion. And thank you for opening one in Mt Ommaney!

This is the first time that I have shopped at a H&M store, and as a guy who likes for clothes…read moreshopping to be as simple (and quickly over) as possible, I quite liked the store. The different clothes sections (Women's, Men's and Children) are separate to one another in a very deliberate way, the change rooms are managed efficiently and there is a good variety of clothes without it being too overwhelming. I found the staff to be reasonably nice, though the person at the door may not let you in if you are holding a drink. The main issue that I had with the store was that XL sized stock was either non existent or hard to find, when going through the different sizes. I am not sure whether they stock less larger sizes, or whether it was simply a popular size for men. I would definitely recommend giving H&M a visit at least once, and seeing whether it is your cup of tea.

A pair of ballet jiffies for your beloved small person is going to cost you around about $60. There's quite a large variety, from your heavily glittered rubber sandles (circa 1990), to almost corporate looking flatties. There are cutesy summer dresses for girls, and very conservative 'I'm pretending to be dad on his way to work' clothes for boys. The accessories are cute. I even found myself posing in front of a mirror holding a suitcase that was painted and shaped like a watermelon. They had some pretty sweet toys too, like a movable wooden dinosaur for example. They had all the kind of cool, hip kids toys that you want to buy for yourself. Honestly, I'm the kind of person who believes that kids are best dressed in rags, in pillowcases, or potato sacks, even cardboard boxes, as long as they're having fun. The freedom to do that lessens the older you get. The best thing about the cardboard box? It's free. If you do find anything in here you like, expect to pay through the nose for it.

Seed is filled with lovely, matching, well tailored clothes for kids without any practical application. Kids below five spit up. They spill things. They roll around in mud. Unless the fabric is completely stain free, it doesn't matter how well tailored the outfit is. Added to this, kids grow at an exponential rate making the price of a shirt or a pair of shorts from Seeds ridiculously expensive as they'll outgrow it within a few months. Seed is the sort of shop I would visit to buy a special gift for a family friend's daughter or son but my own niece and nephew will be stuck in their uncool K-mart clothes for a few more years to come.

For quite a small shop, they squeeze a lot in and have a good range of basic cottons, satins, and stretch fabrics as well as some fancier silks and dress fabrics. I've never really found fabrics in there that stir up my imagination, but did, on a couple of occasions, buy some toga material from there during my uni days when I couldn't be bothered crossing Moggill Road to get to Spotlight. The fabric in Sckafs is a bit too nice and a bit too pricey to be used for togas, but it did the trick. The thing about Sckafs in this location is that they have to compete not only with Spotlight across the road, undercutting pretty much everyone on price in the fabric industry, but also with Gardam's Fabrics, a shop that specialises in the more expensive fabrics and really do stock a beautiful range in a spacious store. Spotlight and Gardam's get my business before Sckafs as I find their ranges of fabric more interesting. But, again, it's handy to have a fabric store that is actually within the Indooroopilly Shopping Centre.

They have a lot of material to choose from and usually there are some really good steals in the bargain bin from $1.99 a meter for silky soft fabric. I came here one day just to browse on my way home and left with some sugar almonds to munch on and a couple of different bomboniere pieces that I just wanted to put on display around the house. Although my purchase is not a normal purchase for a store like this, you can't help but want to buy something for yourself or for someone. Sorrento Bomboniere offer a wide selection of different bombonieres suitable for a range of occasions including birthdays and Christian ceremonies. They stock some beautiful Christening gowns for babies, which are all hand-made in Brisbane. If you're planning an Italian wedding or needing bomboniere's for other celebrations make sure you have a look at this gorgeous little store and ask for Connie. She was so helpful on my last visit.

It's pretty big and they've got a good amount of stuff here, and I suppose I'm unfairly comparing it to other completely adorable children's clothing stores I've seen which are pretty pricey (Sugar Land's prices are quite reasonable), but it's just not as cute as it should be considering what it sells.

On any given day, you will likely find a bunch of women admiring the various knick knacks throughout the store. They had the most beautiful patched handbag that I was highly tempted to buy.
