We absolutely loved our visit to the Virginia Discovery Museum!…read more It looks a bit small and dinky from the outside, but my children and their cousins, ages 4 - 9, played non-stop for three hours. While most children's museums are multi levels, this is more like a giant long maze, making exploring each room feel like a treasure hunt. Favorite spots included the authentic log cabin complete with life size baby crib and a little play town with cafe, post office, and nature playground. There were lot of places for parents to sit and the whole museum felt relatively low key. The front desk was super nice and reminded us many times that we could come and go as we pleased throughout the day. Since we are American Children's Museum members we got free admission which was a huge added perk. Love being able to learn, explore, and play with my littles all around the US.

Great hands on play for your kids!…read more We were in the area and since it was hot we wanted an indoor activity for our kids. The museum recommends 8 and under. Our kids are 8, 7 and 5. The website does a great job of explaining where to park. We followed our gps and it took us the emergency exit entrance. The entrance is right on the main brick road. The museum will also validate your pass so parking is free. Entering was easy and we let the kids loose. We spent about 2 hours but they could have easily stayed longer. They do not allow food in the museum but you can come and go as you please. Great experience to let your kids explore.

Although I looked over the dresser, opened the drawers, etc., I did not move all the lamps and many assorted knick knacks. I then paid for the dresser and made arrangements to pick it up the following day. When I returned to pick it up, there was a VERY LARGE split in the wood, ALL the way across the entire top of the dresser and way too wide to repair by any method. This major damage had been covered by the runner, the lamps and the knick knacks. So . . . Usually, normally, sellers will be transparent about damage, flaws, chips, cracks etc., and then it's up to the buyer to move forward with the purchase or not. Because the damage was so extensive, I did not think the dresser could be transported without breaking completely in two. Because the damage was hidden/concealed, I felt deceived. I pointed this out to the staff, who launched into their "no refunds" spiel before I could even finish my sentence. I was rather abruptly offered to the "opportunity" to leave the dresser (and my $400) behind if I no longer wanted it. Still, I extend Kudos to Twice Is Nice for serving seniors in need!! Thank you to the volunteers who offer their time. Thank you to the folks who donate. If an item is damaged, you don't have to attach flashing lights or a neon sign, but it's not "nice" to cover it up, then pile it high with multiple heavy items making the damage almost impossible to detect until too late to make an informed purchase decision.

Wonderful finds in excellent condition! I always spend too much, but come home with great things!…read more If you make it to Charlottesville, I highly recommend this place look out because Twice is Nice has two stores in the same general vicinity.

Monticello is probably the most famous of all the President houses (Mt Vernon may have it beat)…read more As a self-proclaimed Presidential history nerd, I have been to several presidential homes, libraries, museums, gravesites, monuments, etc. Monticello's history is the most interesting because of many factors including Jefferson's architectural obsession, the atrocities with slavery that occurred with building and maintaining it, and the innovations and experimentation Jefferson used while living here. Monticello is a huge operation. You should definitely get a reservation. You park at the bottom of the hill (or maybe middle of it) then you go through metal detectors and are now in the cafe/gift shop/bathroom area. From there you can take the 1/2 mile walk up hill to the home or take the bus. Once you are up top, you will be put into different huddles depending on your tour time. Oh, there are several different style tours, we just did the general admission tour. Anyway, you can walk around the grounds while you wait. The whole thing is very well organized. Our tour guide took us through various rooms in the house, pointed out various artifacts from Jefferson's past, told stories and was very knowledgeable when asked questions. The group I was in was probably 20 people. The whole tour took 45 mins. Then we walked the grounds independent of the tour including looking at Jefferson's family cemetery plot. My only issue is that I went on July 1st, 2026, so the whole back (or front) had a huge tent set up for the America 250 celebration. Not a big deal just didn't get the complete feel or pics.
