There is also a delightful Spring inspired window display which as an ex-theatre designer I really appreciated! Apparently the owner's wife changes it seasonally. Lovely touch. I ordered a mozzarella, fresh kale and sundried tomato baguette and it was delicious. The bread was crisp on the outside and soft on the inside and the contents were so fresh - it was gorgeous. I then treated myself to a peppermint tea and a white chocolate and pistachio cookie - such an unusual and classy combo! Loved it! The *only* thing I could complain about was that the infuser for the peppermint tea leaves was a little loose so a lot of the leaves escaped into my glass but I was able to fish them out easily and the tea was lovely so I really didn't mind :-) I only wish I was based in the business district of Liverpool so I could frequent this lovely place more often. Another example of an independent business getting it just right.

We found this city centre creperie by accident, not design, in the hunt for a good savoury lunch…read more The menu looked perfect and all three of us agreed instantly to go in. It's been a heck of a long time since we were last in Chester. In fact, there was no such place as Starbucks or Costa and a Frappuccino wasn't even in the language it's that far back. Starbucks, a second wave coffee provider, was only venturing into Canada when we were last there. Creperies too were places you'd find only in Brittany and Normandy. The great British public would have eschewed, nay nay, pooh - poohed the very thought way back when. But all change; doncha just love it that the only constant is change? Having enjoyed many a good savoury and sweet crepe - doesn't everybody enjoy a good crepe? - in Brittany and Normandy with calvados and crisp, light, sweet cidré we knew done right it would be tasty. So I had the crisp bacon & maple syrup crepe (just over £5) and being moi (well we must nod to the French) I had only one question. Is it maple syrup or that artificial flavoured sugar rubbish pretending to be maple syrup. The reply was instant and welcome: the real Mc Coy. Great. I did have a moment of weakness mind as there was a goat cheese choice but I stuck with bacon. My companions chose an all day breakfast crepe and a Mexican chicken crepe respectively (just over £7 each). We all had cappuccinos (large at under £3 each) and Welsh sparkling water (£1.8), none of yer Perrier or Badoit here, just right too. The service was darn good. The food was tasty, light and perfect - ooh la la - as our French cousins might say. The coffee was alright and more third wave but I'd prefer a much more punchy coffee, but disappointment aside I'll leave it five star for the great service and tasty food. It might even take us back to Chester one day, but I did notice a divine looking (and smelling) Yorkshire pudding sandwich shop, so it might be there next time - now you certainly won't find one of those in Normandy or Brittany, vive la difference.

They have a good range of pasties including several vegetarian options (including spicy vegetable, mushroom and cheese and brocolli). The prices are reasonable; cheaper than getting a packaged sandwich but more expensive than a rubbish pasty from a certain bakery chain which will remain nameless. The Pasty Place also offers a range of sweet pasties as well as cookies, crisps and drinks which are priced at the usual small shop rates. There is rarely a queue, but this is because the service is so quick, rather than a lack of customers

The Tea room has multiple levels; however, the lower level seemed to be the main area of service at the time that I was there. The upper levels, are up flights of stairs and are a bit uneven, but you have to keep in mind that it is an older building, so those with mobility issues might find the walk up a bit difficult. They offer different menus that have a selection of food, including some vegetarian options as well. Also some dishes can be modified to be gluten free. The tea selection is good, plus budget friendly. They do offer some delicious gluten free pastries that are quite addicting and add to your bill quickly, but they are so worth it. **Tips: + The restroom is a bit of a hike for those with mobility issues as it up the stairs and through the upper dining level + Watch your step upon entry

They all loved their sandwich which they remarked was crispy. I ordered the celeriac and chestnut soup which featured fresh local produce. It was only a starter, so I expected it to be only a cup of soup, but it was a full bowl that came with a side of freshly made sourdough bread and very nice butter. I also ordered a side of truffle parmesan potatoes which were delicious. I'm a total sucker for anything truffle, so there was no way I wasn't ordering them, but they totally delivered! They were so good! I loved my meal! It was so good! My family enjoyed their meals as well. Last weekend, having wanted to get away…read morefrom the hustle and bustle of Manchester City Centre for quite some time, it was decided that a foodie tour of Chester was on the cards - and this is what brought me to Joseph Benjamin for Sunday lunch. What a lovely restaurant this is. Small but cosy, we were seated on a table for two near the window. Plenty of natural light, fresh flowers on the table and a fantastic atmosphere from the get go, i knew this place was going to be great. After spending some time looking at the Sunday lunch menu, which looked fantastic and would have been amazing i'm sure, I decided to order from the full menu as there were a few dishes that most definitely caught my eye! For my starter I opted for Soup of the Day with sourdough bread. The soup was Aubergine and white onion and was incredibly creamy. Definitely one of the best soups i have had in a restaurant. For my main course I opted for the Cod Cheeks with shrimps, curried cauliflower, spinach and a raisin puree. It was very very nice. The cod cheeks were cooked to perfection and had so much flavour! Not at all overpowered by the curried cauliflower, which was so very tasty too! However, half way through the dish i noticed coriander with the spinach underneath the cod cheeks, and whilst this would be an amazing accompaniment for most people, I really can't eat coriander - although i really really wish i could!! Neil C, after demolishing half of his Pigeon and Hare Bourguignon with parsley mash, very kindly offered to swap. This turned out for the best as he got to try some of my dish, which i'm sure he had been eyeing up from the start! He seemed to enjoy it as much as i was. His bourguignon was great too - the pigeon and hare giving off the most amazing of dark flavours and the mash, although it was green!!. was creamy, fluffy and light. I couldn't pass on the opportunity to try a desert, so i went for the Coconut Rice Pudding with mango and lime. It has been years since I had rice pudding and it was just as amazing as i remembered. Hot, thick, creamy, gloop with a sweet taste of the coconut contrasting with the zingyness of the mango and lime on top. Just incredible. Overall i cannot fault the food, service, place, anything!! - The experience was outstanding from beginning to end! I would go to this restaurant again and again.

I've never had ox anything, and I'm a believer now... I had beef burg for my main, hubby had the venison and dad had the halibut and all three were simply fantastic! All were perfectly tender, lean, and full of flavor with sides that complimented them perfectly. And the desserts.. chocolate lava cake with salted caramel ice cream and dad had the sticky ginger cake and dad and hubby truly enjoyed these final courses. The chocolate cake surprised us when Mark cut into it and a lovely ganache poured out.. dad said the sticky ginger cake was light, not too sweet, but nice flavor. We were beyond stuffed, but even dad said "you found a gem with this place!" We would definitely return here regularly if we lived in England!! Service was really good! Our servers were friendly and attentive. They always asked how everything was with each course and everything was correct. Even though it was packed, and there were two of them, they did a great job staying on top of everything! The ambiance... it's too packed for such an amazing experience. They will be moving and good thing because they are going to need the extra room!! It was a bit hard to hear each other when it was a full house, but when half the room cleared, it was really pleasant. Overall, best food and service experience we've had in the two weeks we've been in England, hands down. And if we lived here, this is where we would take friends and family to "wow" them!
