My mouth had a taste of heaven through Gin Gin Bakery. Disregard the other two reviewers because they did not order what Gin Gin is known for - their meat pies. I can't speak for their other pastries, but who needs other pastries when THEY HAVE HOME MADE AUSTRALIAN MEAT PIES! I ordered the plain meat pie, which is actually plain beef, not a fully "plain" pie. All their pies have the listed ingredient PLUS beef (ie if it's listed as "mushroom", it's actually mushroom and beef), which wasn't immediately intuitive for me. This pie was perfectly flaky, served hot, and I have no idea how the pie crust contained the juicy deliciousness of the beef filling. 100% recommend! Vegans, stay away, although they were very nice and recommended near by vegetarian friendly restaurants. read more
I have to disagree with the previous reviewer. There are a couple of bakeries in Gin Gin and this is the better of the two. They make there own pies, cakes etc which is sadly a bit of a rarity in a number of bakeries these days. My husband ordered a pastie and really enjoyed it as it was full of fresh veggies such as carrot, peas, corn and beans that were still visible and not just some mystery filling. He also has a jam donut. It's true, the jam donuts use mock cream but if you take a look to the right of the counter, there is a whole case of cakes and pastries that use fresh cream and custard such as beestings, apple turnover, apples puff, chocolate eclairs etc. The bakery is popular with travellers as it's directly on the Bruce Highway with plenty of parking right in front for those with caravans. They have a a large undercover eating area in front of the bakery and make a pretty decent flat white. A great place to stop for a leg stretch and break before you head off towards Bundaberg (the coast) or out to Western Qld. read more

If you are passing through Gin Gin and feel the urge to stop for a cream donut or a custard tart, just keep on driving. We didn't, and neither of us was able to eat the things. The 'cream' donut was chewy, which is one thing a good fresh donut shouldn't be, and I seriously doubt that the 'cream' had ever had a connection to a cow. The pastry on the custard tart - well, it's difficult to describe what it looked like and neither of us was game to taste it. We tried a bit of the custard which was reminiscent of kindergarten paste in texture, although the flavour was vaguely respectable. All in all, not a place we will be returning to. I've given it one star because Yelp won't allow me to give it zero! read more
