However, $35 for fewer than 3 hours was quite steep. They explained the rate - $10 per hour, okay - but the math wasn't mathing. I should've been charged $30 tops! When I asked about the rate, the attendant said "it's all virtual - we just scan the code and charge" but the time of entry wasn't recorded. I believe they rounded the time UP and charged me the max amount. Annoying!

I parked frequently at the Mason St Garage having business near the theater district. The evening…read moreof 2/21/26 it was extremely busy and the line extended out to Mason st. While I was in line in clear view of the entrance, I saw the attendant change the sign from $20 to $30 and then straight to $50. I had no choice, it was busy and I was running late. As I got near the driveway the valet instructed me to pull up the ramp to the second level. This is a steep ramp and I drive a stick shift. Knowing it would be difficult I motioned to the valet that I have a manual and he gave me the OK. I pulled half-way up, put on the parking brake and prepaid, $50. My engagement was about two hours and when I went to collect my car it was on the ground floor. The attendant handed me the keys and motioned to the spot in the back of the lot. All the windows were open and there was a lingering smoke smell... but I drove off anyway. Immediately upon turning on Geary I knew something was wrong with the clutch and the burning smell got worse. I drove around the block and straight back to speak with the valet. That is when he told me he had trouble going up the ramp and gave up when the car started to smoke!?! I told he burnt the clutch but he didn't understand and called the manager. I told the manager the same and he told me the owner would call me Monday. I didn't hear back. So I called him Thursday and left a message, then again on Saturday, and Sunday and finally on the following Monday he called. I told him the same story. His reply, "sorry I have no idea what condition your car was in when you drove in. I'll give you a free day of parking, that's the best I can do." I pushed him on his liability insurance, nothing, he was obstinate and didn't care, not even to say something like, "I'm sorry that happened" Do Not Park at HPM Lots. This guy is awful.

When we first arrived, there was no one at the valet stand. I had to go inside the hotel and inquire about the attendant while the roommate waited in his car. It didn't take long after I went inside, but for $55, I'd think they'd have someone outside operating the valet stand. And yes, valet parking was $55! We were here for a party, so really, only about 4 hours. If we actually had to pay for parking, I would have probably looked for street parking or parked somewhere else. With tip, parking ended up being $60, so like $15 an hour based on our time here. Expensive. If you're staying at the hotel, I guess valet is convenient.
