Only because Zero is not an option. We hired Gilman floors to refinish our antique pine floors and it has been a disaster. We learned after the fact that Gilman outsources everything, which explains why the job started two weeks late and if anyone showed up to work after the job started it was generally only for a few hours a day. As a result the job took almost three weeks complete. I use the term complete loosely as they never cleaned up, never removed the blue tape that had inexpertly been applied to protect the other finishes, which we had to pay painters to remove, never moved our furniture back in the house and never came back to fix the problems that were promised on their last day. None of this prevented Gilman from taking the balance of what was owed from our credit card.
The work was done very poorly. In addition to a sanding job that left ripples in the floor, there are puddles of either stain or poly on the floors. We are also experiencing the lifting of the polyurethane surface weeks after the application of the product. While Doug Gilman has told us this is the result of painters using the wrong tape, the first two people he finally sent over to look at the problems told us the product was put down incorrectly and would be fixed. A statement Doug is not prepared to back up. He however had the balls to give us a quote for $4,000 for a re-screening process that he admitted only "might" work. The quote also said if it didn't work, too bad.
We brought in someone else to try a "rescreen" and the results were not good. As a result the floors have to be completely refinished. this time by someone who cares enough to do their own work. read more
