This cosy cafe wouldn't be out of place in the west end and could easily charge several times the price it does. A hidden gem on Duke Street, The Coffee House serves up a surprising selection of good food, from soup and sandwiches, to brunch and baked goods, which are decadent and delicious.
Their coffee and cake deal is a bargain at £3.50, with generous servings that could feed two, if you can bear to share. The counter is always crammed with top-quality cakes and you can choose from a sinful selection to accompany your cuppa.
If you fancy a bit of brunch, you can have all the trimmings, including eggs how you like them and Belgian waffles with bacon and syrup. My brunching boyfriend assured me that his bacon brunch was delicious and that the waffles were wonderfully fresh.
Whatever your whim, The Coffee House is keen to cater and welcomes brunchers, coffee 'n' cake connoisseurs and lunch munchers. I'm glad it's in the east and has its feet firmly planted on the ground, with purse-pleasing prices and good mood food. read more
