My partner and I have owned our small consulting business in San Francisco for close to 10 years. Prior to switching to John G's accounting outfit, we were using a highly rated accounting firm in downtown San Francisco. Over six years, we paid tens of thousands in fees even though our books were for the most part clean and relatively simple. They were unresponsive to our questions or concerns, and never proactively pursued issues that we raised. For the most part, it felt like our books were never fully reconciled. Like everyone else who has written a review for John, I can't recommend him enough. I found him through Yelp, and it seems only fitting that I make my own contribution here. John is not only extremely well-versed in all things related to taxes and accounting, but he is very personable and easygoing to work with. (He's a CPA and a surfer - who knew that such a breed even exists - so definitely not the stereotypical buttoned-up type that you see in those Jackson Hewitt commercials.). He amended five (yes, FIVE) returns for me, due to mistakes I had made when trying to do it on my own (my family's CPA had done them for me in the past, and after a huge error his firm made, I decided to do it on my own, thinking I would do a better job). My returns were really gnarly; I have rental properties, my own business, am a member of my family's LLC, AND I had to change my status from married from separately to married filing jointly. And John did it all. We were at Kinko's until midnight the night before they were due, and he not for a second had a bad attitude about it.
