After 30 some years living in Visalia, and going to several different dentists, I've finally found one that knows his trade well. I just had a root canal and crown from Dr. Lam and he did a great job. When he showed me the mirror to see if I thought the color matched my other teeth I could not tell which one it was. everything was good until I wanted to schedule an apt from the last one I cancelled. she told me she didn't know what my last apt was for. then no apt she asked if I was gonna pay the $300 today and I said yeah and you know what an apt magically appeared. then she says so you know if you don't come we can't see you anymore since you missed 2 apt I said no I havent I only cancelled one the proceeds to tell me I had to apts in one day! like first you don't know what my apt is for now I had two of them? make it make sense! goes to shoes all these dentit just want your money! Very professional and competent. Reasonably priced. Dr. Lam listens to patients. Not gimicky at all. Office staff was knowledgeable, kind, and quick to point out options. Today was my first visit, and I went in knowing that I had big list of dental work to address. Dr Lam's diagnosis was the first one that I have found that matched the news my favorite dentist had given me years ago, before he relocated out of the area. While having my teeth cleaned, I noted that their hygenist was extremely gentle, tapping her tools to pinpoint and investigate every spot I wished she'd gloss over. Truly skilled. Yes, I know all hygenists tap teeth and investigate them, but her inspection was THOROUGH. I have read the awful reviews of getting crowns by Dr. Lam and can't help but be curious....so I shall be getting crowns next and will try to remember to report back. Horrible experience. Not sure where Dr. Lam received his license, but wherever he got it, he surely was not at the top of his class. He is very unprofessional and unorganized. It seems like he's more worried about quantity than quality. Being fast doesn't always get you the best results. My teeth feel worse than when I went it. He's had to call me back 3xs after I first left his office because he's "missed" something. He's honestly no better than Western Dental. Also, definitely get a second opinion on whatever work he tries to get done on you because he'll either miss something or he'll try to add work that isn't even necessary. It's a big hit or miss with him. The honest truth is he probably only gets business because he accepts Medi-Cal and nobody wants to go to Western. Overall, I would NOT recommend. I had a crown replaced by Dr. Lam. I have had previous crowns before and was numbed on the inside of my mouth. This time, I had a numbing injection on the inside of my mouth and also an injection on my tongue which was excrutiating! I could not eat and had trouble swallowing and talking for about 4 days. Once, the temp crown came in, he left it very high and grounded it down so that it was level to the other side of my mouth. I am having trouble chewing on the crown and it is sensitive when I chew on that side. It feels like it was grounded too low now. I will never return back to this dentist, as my out of pocket for the crown was $400. and now I am having trouble eating on that side of my mouth. I would not recommend this dentist to anyone and only went here because he was an in network provider. read more

As I get older I'm becoming more of a big baby at the dentist. It doesn't help that I have the misfortunate genetics where simply thinking about candy renders me a new cavity. Apparently stress cavities are a thing, too, so that's certainly not helping. Anyhow, I chose Dr Lam based on a few positive Yelp reviews and his legitimate actual website. (This matters!) I can report that my experiences have met expectations. You get text message reminders for appointments, which is helpful for one's busy life. Location is a little "meh" but the staff and time in the scary chair are wonderful. Dr Lam stops and makes sure you're okay with every little flinch. He talks to you like a normal person with manners. The work is efficient - filling time from topical anesthetic to paid and out the door is 30 mins (and that's with me holding up production for more meds!) My only gripe: there are no promo toothbrushes and floss with cleanings. That's the ONLY thing that makes me nostalgic for my old dentist. read more

Law yo get a cleaning and by the time this rude dental staff made her feel like she had a bad disease because she needed a deep cleaning...tried to charge for something covered by insurance...woman put her hands in her mouth then on the keyboard and counter...disgusting read more

BEWARE: Told me I had cavities in all 4 quadrants 2nd visit...which was odd..I go every 6 month for cleanings. Front desk doesnt monitor your insurance limit...I had 2 front teeth done prior that yr(which fell out 5 yrs later!)....I insisted they do 1 quadrant at a time for numbing reasons...when I went to pay..I was told I had to pay 100% because insurance was maxed..I only paid my normal %...and found another dentist...they found NO cavities!! So the 4 quadrant thing was a hoax...so I'm glad I didn't just go along w it..I'd be out of pocket thousands! He also drilled down my teeth so looks like I grind them..dentists always ask if I do ...no..dont go here!! BTW ..collections agent on remaining payment was dropped because I sent the new dentist records..NO CAVITIES...BOGUS read more

I have been going to Gilbert Lam about a year now, so it was time to write a review. The doctor knows his profession well and he has the newest state of the art dentistry gadgets. He does an excellent job interacting with me, and make sure I am not feeling any discomfort. The staff are professional and good at explaining what my insurance benefits cover. i've been in pain for 3 days before I have the courage to visit the dentist. I've had a bad experience before when I had my tooth pulled and ever since I've been afraid to go to the dentist. I did my research and finally decided to call Dr. Lam's office. I told the receptionist that I was in severe pain and wanted to see if I can be seen the same day. The receptionist was very understanding and said the schedule is pretty booked today but they will squeeze me. A few xrays was taken and Dr. Lam walked in. He was very knowledgeable. I told him how nervous I was and that I've been in pain for the past 3 days. He explained all the treatment options and let me know the pros and cons of each. Unfortunately, my tooth was severely broken down and it could not be saved. I was very nervous throughout the procedure but surprisingly it wasn't as bad as I thought. Dr. Lam explained everything and made sure I was ok throughout the procedure. He took his time and was very gentle. I will definately be back. I recommend Dr. Lam to everyone that needs a good dentist. read more
