My wife and I stayed with her the last week in October, 2018, while visiting my daughter in San Francisco. We were so fortunate to find this homey bed and breakfast: just like being home. And it is in an ideal location in the Vista del Mar/Outer Richmond area, easy walking distance to the beach and Golden Gate Park. As near as it is to the city, it is a remarkably quiet and peaceful area: no traffic noise whatsoever, which was a real pleasure. And the views from our bedroom and sitting room windows overlooking the ocean were spectacular. Breakfasts were excellent, we had full access to a fully stocked kitchen, and there were always treats awaiting us every morning. We look forward to staying there again. Absolutely perfect.

The unit is designed like a suite, or small apartment. Excellent location. Spectacular view, beautiful room with modern updates, large common space area with kitchen, comfortable bed. Awesome tub. I came with my husband and two kids. They provided a pack and play crib, dressed and ready for my lil one. Reading prior reviews, I went in to the experience (which was a surprise get-away planned by my husband) I had a sour predisposition regarding his choice of hotel. I arrived with caution. I was humbled. I want to go back again and again. And next time, without the kids bc it is a surprisingly romantic place.

This was a hugely regrettable experience, with much of the blame laid at the feet of the hotel…read more The problems started at the time I made the reservation. I asked the agent if there was another room above mine and was told no. I was also told the room was very quiet. These were both lies. The room was promoted and booked as a cottage, and that implies several things, starting with an understanding that it's a small free-standing building with a modicum of privacy. That was not the case. Our "cottage" was in-fact a ground-floor unit in a fourplex, with people upstairs and artificial turf in front. We shared patio space with our neighbor. He was cleaning his feet as we arrived and immediately asked if he could borrow our outdoor furniture as he was planning to entertain family, which he later did. But the biggest problem--other than the lies at the time of the booking--was upstairs. There was a toddler who spent hours doing wind sprints up and down the uncarpeted floor, and soundproofing was minimal. So, between the garden party next door and Junior Jetrod overhead, we did not have a restful late afternoon and early evening. After 9 pm or so, things quieted down enough to eventually fall asleep. Hotel staff did its best to make things better, and I was permitted to cancel a second night without penalty. But we never should have been there in the first place. Had the reservations agent told the truth, I would have looked elsewhere.

We found the Anchor Inn to be conveniently located to all of the things that encompassed to us a perfect overnight getaway: beach access, coffee, brews, good food, and scenic views in a safe space. The Anchor Inn checked all the boxes and then some. Spacious enough for 2 adults and a baby (we noticed other families in the units next to ours), the Inn has private stays that include a kitchen, bathroom with shower/towel/amenities, TV in sitting room, chairs to sit on balcony, bedroom with TV also, and heated floors! I usually walk around barefoot at home (not a surfer, but this most be an awesome feature for those hitting the waves all day), and I was pleasantly surprised when my toesies were warm all day/night..such a unique and fun feature! Customer service is excellent and they checked in on us by cell to see if we needed anything additional. Another great feature is your own parking right next to the front doorway. Very convenient for multiple trips with a little one! As mentioned, down the driveway you can get to Grocery Store Outlet, Soul Grind Coffee Roasters, Humble Sea Brewing, and a few other eateries and shops depending on what you're in the mood for. There's also a safe and convenient pathway (check the open field slightly to the left) that leads directly to the water if you're looking to board, bring the kiddos to play, or just looking for a nice walk alone or all the romantic feels. Did I mention you can also get directly to the Taco Bell in Pacific this way? Just a 10 or less minute walk if you're looking for the cantina vibes! Whether you're looking for a getaway with a friend or two, solo trip, or bringing the family, I can't say enough great things about this hidden gem. It's easily accessible when coming over the bridge into the city. Parking in San Francisco can be expensive and difficult to find, so having it included is a huge plus. Between Uber, Lyft, Waymo, and public transportation, it's easy to leave your car parked and explore the city. The motel is family-owned, and you can tell they take pride in the property. Everything is well maintained, and whoever takes care of the landscaping does an outstanding job--the grounds are beautiful and add to the charm of the property. The motel is quiet, pet-friendly, and the rooms are comfortable. During this visit, we met up with friends who had the room next to ours. The adjoining rooms, connected by a Jack-and-Jill bathroom, worked out perfectly for our group. The rooms include a TV, mini refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker--everything you need for a comfortable stay. Overall, this is a great place to stay when visiting San Francisco. It's clean, convenient, reasonably priced, and offers amenities that make your trip much easier. I highly recommend the Marina Motel and will definitely continue staying here whenever we're in the city.

While covid isn't quite over, we were able to enjoy the afternoon wine and snacks, and a filling breakfast with hard-boiled eggs, pastries, cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, and fruit. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, sodas, sparking water, and bottled water are available all day. Minor note -- Wine and food is served only at their sister property, White Swan, two doors down. It only takes a few seconds to get there, but it's not right there in your own building. Sometimes there is no one at the front desk of Petite Auberge, but you can call/text them or walk over to White Swan for service. Don't forget to factor in $58 for parking. Not my favorite, but with all the car break-ins happening in SF now, we didn't want to risk overnight street parking. Our entire stay including parking was still right around $200 including breakfast for two, so it seemed like a decent deal overall. We were able to walk to Chinatown, North Beach, Union Square, and the Westfield shopping center on Market. Cable car line is within a few blocks and you can ride it down to Fisherman's Wharf. There's a yummy Korean taco/burrito place on the same block (Tacorea) -- great for a quick bite!

My room was on the 5th floor - room 51 - in the front of the hotel facing Bush St. My room had a queen bed, pullout loveseat, wing chair, desk / chair, fireplace & en suite bathroom with bathtub. The room is vintage... it has charming floral accents with whimsical elephant & bird details as well. The bathroom was clean & functional and came with Lather toiletries. The bed was fine, and I slept well. I loved the vintage elevator, but keep in mind that it is small and a bit rickety. It did the job though. Otherwise, carpeted stairs are next to the elevator shaft. Service was nice. Big shout out to Noel at the front desk of The White Swan Inn who checked me in on the first night. He also kindly brought a glass of wine and some cheese / grapes to my room because I'd missed the happy hour. Other folks at the Petite Auberge Desk wee nice as well. Keep in mind that the desk is not staffed at night. The continental breakfast in the downstairs dining room at The White Swan was also a nice, included touch. Each day the offerings varied but primarily consisted of hard boiled eggs, croissants, cheese danishes, donuts, muffins, assorted fresh fruit, toast, yogurt, and oatmeal. The coffee was good. They also had juices & a generous selection of teas. I definitely enjoyed the breakfast each morning especially the eggs & croissants Overall, Petite Auberge is a comfortable and inviting Inn. It is not bougie, and it is a little rumpled here and there, kind of like my guy, Colombo. Cozy & secure, my stay was certainly special and I think you will enjoy staying there, too.

We also forgot dog bowls and asked the front desk if they had anything we could use in the meantime. They ended up giving us dog bowls to use! Their crib was also available to use free of charge and the pet fee was super reasonable. The hotel itself isn't the most modern and chic, but it was clean, comfortable, and in a beautiful location. The only somewhat tricky part of staying here was the parking - it was about half a block or so away but the parking lot was often quite full and sometimes we had to park at the very far end of the lot which could be a little inconvenient but not the fault of the hotel by any means - just the nature of being smack dab in the middle of the main street of the city. I saw one of the staff people taking coffee from the brewing machine while it was actively making the coffee so they got the "good stuff". If this is a regular practice, no wonder the coffee was bad.
