Not only was it the first time I worked with this type of clay, but the learning experience was great in so many other ways. The techniques used have served Lorri well in her amazing art, which is displayed in private collections and publicly in cities everywhere. It was a joy to learn from her; she has a down-to-earth, laid back attitude and a great sense of humor. The others in the workshop were excellent to be with for the long weekend and the experience levels ranged from beginner to seasoned. Because the pieces were raku fired, waiting with the group for the pieces to finish was a fun and exciting time. I'd recommend this class to anyone interested in clay. Lorri and her husband, Adam Schultz, will be holding workshops at Holder Dane in March, with Adam's figurative clay workshop March 24-26 and Lorri's figurative paper clay workshop March 27-29. A little loud during the World Cup, but seating was plentiful on a Thursday night and they had a few kid friendly food options (grilled cheese, pizza, quesadillas, chicken nuggets and fries). Parking was easy as there's a covered parking garage attached to the hotel and I think I only paid $1 for 2 hours of parking. There's also a small water splash pad outside for kids to run through and cool down on a hot summer day. Cool spot.

I recently came to House of Shine to attend a junk journaling class. The environment was friendly,…read moreinviting and the space was beautiful. Before the class starts, one of the staff will discuss the vision behind House of Shine and ways to get involved. They have a yearly rotating exhibit with interactive activities throughout the space. Amanda the founder of DFW Junk Journaling Club was our instructor. Amanda provided information on junk journaling, showed examples through her own journals, provided supplies and answered any questions we had. The journaling classes are low cost ($10) and they have ample parking available on site. We were encouraged to bring our own supplies for junk journaling which includes receipts, stickers, pictures, cards etc. The class was casual and you could come and go as you pleased. There are meetups throughout the year for those interested in junk journaling discussed on their Instagram page or on linktree. I left the class inspired and look forward to expanding my creativity through journaling. I look forward to attending another journaling class in May.

You are supposed to solve this mystery, and I was not able to make heads or tails of it. Perhaps that would've been easier with the app.

Located in charming downtown Grapevine on Main Street, this gem has it all. I visit this gallery often. Owners, Cherie and John Giddens, are a charming couple. While you are at the Galley you are likely to run into Cherie Giddens and/or one of the other, 20 of so, resident artists. Either way you will find they have a broad knowledge of art and extensive knowledge of their own medium. All of the artists are passionate, seasoned and have been doing their craft for many years. Can you say "DAY TRIP". Grapevine is such a great place to visit often, as you will find so many things to do for adults and children including dining, quaint shops, wine tasting and art; Giddens Gallery and Bingham Vinyards' wine tasting venue share a storefront and inside passage - how perfect is that? I bought 4 Groupon offers to this class as a present for my parents when they came to Dallas…read more Unfortunately, we didn't have enough time to use them, but after putting it off until a week before the expiration, I finally rounded up a crew to go with me. We stopped at Eatzi's on the way to pick up wine for the girls, beer for the boy, and snacks to nom on. The building was hard to find, because it was not well-lit in the front, but it will probably be the only storefront that is lit at all. We walked in, threw our drinks in the fridge and got to work sorting through all the books of idea paintings. I have never considered myself very artistic and was pretty nervous to pick something out and completely butcher it, but I found something that I thought I would probably buy if I saw it in a store and went to work. This was one of the most fun random Friday nights I have had in Dallas. Susan was fantastic and helped us all try different techniques and ideas. We made friends with the other parties there, both young and old. And all of our canvases turned out so well! All of our different styles came out clearly with art that we can all definitely hang on our walls. We will be back here for sure!

I came to E Gallery Studios after purchasing two Google Offers for their 3-hour BYOB painting…read moreclass. You are actually allowed/encouraged to bring beverages or even snacks. Scheduling was very easy via email. I attended the painting class with my sister. What makes this class unique is that each student (about 10-12 students in the class) chooses an image (many provided at the beginning of class) or brings their own to use for inspiration versus the step-by-step group format. The instructor, E, was awesome and gave individualized advice on how he would go about executing the painting and was really patient with beginners (like me). There are a variety of acrylic paints and tools (brushes, knives, etc.) at students' disposal. A few pointers: bring low-maintenance beverages and snacks, wear clothes you don't mind ruining, abstract images seem to be the way to go, and have a great time.
