If you are a local Hick with a Diesel vehicle, then you may have had a decent experience at this so-called Business. If you are not from the Litchfield, IL however, you should read this first-hand account of how you can get ripped off doing business with Gibson Tire and Auto in Litchfield, IL.
My vehicle broke down on the way to Springfield from St. Louis. It started overheating and I stopped in Litchfield. I pulled over, let my vehicle cool down, and then popped the hood. I started it up and looked under the hood. I am an Army veteran and I have military experience working on heavy equipment. I noticed a squeaking noise and leak coming from the water pump, indicating a pump failure. I topped off the fluid and I drove my vehicle into Gibson Auto Repair. I was met by Rich Sr. Initially Rich seemed like a decent person. Rich Sr. promised to perform diagnostics on my vehicle and promised me an estimate. I left my vehicle with Rich and caught a ride back to Springfield. I contacted Rich on several occasions, over many weeks, asking if he had an estimate on my vehicle. On my last call, Rich was very confrontational and told me it would be $1900. I then asked him what work he and crew had done to my vehicle. Rich became angry and told me that He wasn't going to discuss that with me over the phone. I had a friend drive me to his Shop. As soon as we walked in the door. We were met by Rich who instantly was an ahole. I asked to pick up my car. But, I wanted to first know what work was done on my vehicle? Rich said that information was confidential within his staff and he couldn't share that information with me??? I then forcefully voiced that I have a right to know what I am paying for and what was done on my vehicle since I am the consumer and owner of the vehicle!!!
Needless to say, He made a ridiculous comment and the conversation went downhill fast. I ended up calling the police to make a report of the incident. The Police escorted me back to pickup my vehicle. I paid the bill at the advice of my attorney to get the vehicle away from these hacks. My vehicle overheated 5 mins away from Gibson Auto Repair after paying $1900. Upon investigation at the scene, I found nothing was done to my vehicle and the same failing water pump was spewing coolant out.
I have no idea why this Business took advantage of me? I was always respectable to Rich and staff until the end. After reading other reviews of this business on Social Media. Seems this guy has a racket going cheating out of Towners???
