Ah Digbeth, thank you for your endless amount of empty Warehouses! This venue used to be called Space 2, but has changed it's name within the last couple of months, and has relaunched with some of the most multifarious live performances and club nights that us Brummies have lacked for a long time.
It's great just to have a warehouse that needs no special decoration or lick of paint. At the end of the day, a venue should not take away the music focus at all by being all fancy and superficial, and Gibb Street certainly doesn't fall into this trap at all. Inside, the venue is surprisingly large, and has a bar that stretches along the entire one side, which means you don't have to queue up for drinks at all. It's grotty, dark aesthetics build upon the underground vibe of an old 90s rave feel, which brings together a wide and diverse selection of people.
I went to see techno artists Laurent Garnier and Surgeon here, and it was a truly phenomenal performance. The venue sound is amazing, and certainly did all of the artists the justice they deserved. One thing I will say, tickets are a little pricey, and this specific techno night cost £15, but you are paying for some top notch music! read more
