Had a great shopping experience until I asked the woman in meat to give me a price on pre-packaged salmon. She said, "I can't hear you and Josh in seafood can help you". I figured I should speak loudy to ask Josh what the price was on the salmon so I spoke loudly. Josh told me I was screaming and talking too loud and walked away from me. I told him "don't be offended, life is tough". He never answered my question on price. The customer is always right. I put products back I was so pissed! I was checking out and saw Josh in the aisle and said I am going to report you. He flicked me off. Did not apologize or make any amends. Remember, Giant, the customer is always right! I seem to ALWAYS have a problem at the Hershey, PA Giant. I have no problems with the Dillsburg, Hummelstown, Cleona, Camp Hill stores. I shop also at the Havertown Giant outside Philly by only 3 miles. That place is mayhem, especially when the Eagles play! The racial stuff is a challenge there too. Fights break out in line and at the gas pumps but I don't have problems there. You have to be respectful there because you may get a bullet in the head. Usually everyone walks on eggshells to keep the peace there. Too many people. Anyway, I paid my bill and the sales person was delightful. The assistant store manager, Tony Paul, came over at my request and was fantastic. So one worker can't hear me and the other thinks I am screaming. I have choices: Pronio's, Grocery Outlet, Aldi, Weis, Redners, Wawa, Karns. Screw you, Giant and Josh in seafood!!!!

The nice thing about this grocery store is that it is convenient and has some nice specials each week. It is now owned by IGA. I like to review the weekly newspaper fliers sent through the mail so that I can find out the weekly deals and plan my shopping trip there accordingly. I look for good produce deals and good deals on the chicken thighs as I found that their raw chicken when cooked up is the best in the area and sure beats the W place! They have a nice deli section; kudos to Michelle G who works there--she is always friendly and helpful! The deli specials are very good and the ready-made foods are nice for when you have to rush a meal. Ready-made foods are of a nice variety, including options like calzone, chicken alfredo, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, rotisserie chicken, cheeseburgers, hog maw (PA Dutch), coleslaw, potato salad, and various kinds of pasta salads. They have a great selection and everything and their meat counter is legendary, but When comparing grocery stores it eventually comes down to customer service. Groceries are groceries and most stores have a wide selection, as well as occasionally not having that one thing you need. I really like that Karns supports the local farmers. But this example is really all about how they take care of their customers, which is really what counts when it comes to a business review. I ran to Karns quickly to pick up a couple things before the storm that I knew was coming arrived. I was only in the store for a few minutes but came back out and the rain was starting. I noticed immediately that there were some people gathered around a convertible that had its top down. It was parked close to my car so when I got closer I realized that the car's battery was dead, and the driver could not put the top back up. The next thing I noticed is that Kristen, a Karns employee, was standing there holding an umbrella for a lady who is apparently the wife of the driver. There was also another man there trying to help. Noone had jumper cables so I ran home to get mine. I only live 1/4 away, so it was easy. I Got back got into position and we started trying to jump the car. No luck. To make things worse, the storm was hitting full force just about the time we were hooking up the batteries. It was no use... His battery was pretty well dead. There is nothing to do but wait for AAA. Just as I was getting ready to leave after he assured me that he would be okay, Kristen came walking out from the store carrying a tarp that was big enough to cover the whole car! She sort of apologized because it took her so long to find one that was big enough. I'm pointing this out now because this is not an unusual situation. I have seen Karns employees helping people many times in ways that go well beyond simply stocking shelves or ringing up groceries. This is what makes Karns a great store!

Let me go back to the beginning, however. BB's started out as a low-cost 'Bent 'n Dent store and you would see a lot of dented cans/overstock... however it has evolved into a much larger operation over the years (not as much 'dented' merchandise), but still a lot of overstock along with normal staples. There is a also a 'cold' section as well as a full-on walk-in freezer area (coats provided if you wish) So basically this is a full grocery store, which includes random discounted non-food items as well. Location is pretty far away from 'town' but if you enjoy nice drives it is enjoyable. Kids can often catch glimpses of critters across the street from the parking area (saw some chickens on this visit). If you want to do some bargain-hunting and don't mind a jaunt to get there, check it out! PS - you might want to verify hours before starting your sojourn as it isn't open as late as some of the big chain stores - I believe 5pm on a Sat for example ;)
