But this Giant is exceptional in the general surliness of its employees, which is saying something in Philly. My dad, cousin, and I stopped by to buy some flowers here since it was very close to Hillside Cemetery. They have a very nice florist with beautiful bouquets of fresh flowers under $20. I was pleasantly surprised to see a limited edition of a Hello Kitty magazine for $14.99 at the checkout stand. Being the huge fan that I am, I couldn't resist the temptation! There's a Starbucks inside this store, so we each got a drink, plus one for my late cousin since she loved Starbucks. Service at the checkout was quick and friendly. read more

This is my neighborhood grocery store so I'm here frequently. I spent 3 years working in a grocery store so my expectations are high when it comes to their deli, meat, and produce departments. I usually find everything I'm looking for, but occasionally I don't and I move on with my life. First, the olive bar should be set up when the store opens and should not be taken down until a half hour before store closes. Many times I've come in here before 9am and it's not even open yet. Second, the meat section is horrendous. Sure what's on display might look good in the butcher case, but the prepackaged stuff looks awful. Many times I walk through this department and it just smells like rotting meat. I've also seen them mix produce and meat in the same cooler which I'm pretty sure is a food safety violation. I would never buy steak from here. Third, the produce is sad. Some days you can get lucky and walk away with a fresh head of lettuce and often times you're just picking through rotting veggies. Why doesn't the store produce manager mark these items down so they get sold before they are no longer edible? Fourth, I'm very hyper critical of the deli because that's what I did for three years. I remember working in the deli like a finely tuned well oiled machine. That drive doesn't exist in this deli. The clerks will work on a mobile order before they serve a customer at the counter, which was always a big no-no when I worked at Shoprite! Sometimes they won't even show you how thin the cut is and just assume they're doing it right. One time I ordered a block of Boars head American cheese and when I got home I knew it was the store brand cheese. So they thought they could pull the wool over my eyes? Fifth, the bath products section is small and mediocre. You'll only find brands that everyone knows, but aren't necessarily good for your skin or hair. Need more Salon quality organic brands that don't contain the filler big name products typically add a lot of. Sixth, the self checkout registers are absolutely filthy. Take a look in the crevices next time you're using them and you'll find years worth of food and mold just growing in between the scanner and the frame. These machines need a desperate detailed cleaning. Lastly, would like to emphasize that this store needs to do a better job at marking down items that have an expiration nearing and reduce the amount of waste they generate by throwing out food that couldn't sell at its regular price. read more

This store is absolutely disgusting!! The fruit is never fresh with fruit flies flying off of it. Their store brand "fresh" salmon is always smelly and old. It's always dingy and gross. I've seen so many turnovers with managers in that store. read more

Staff is rude! I've been shopping at this store when it used to be Genuardi's before it was Giant. I can deal with the occasional price that comes up wrong or food item that isn't perfect, the staff at this store, especially the younger crowd is more and more rude every time I go in anymore. I feel like they treat customers like we're a nuisance to them or we're bothering them when we're the reason they have jobs. I was there this morning bagging my own groceries and the customer service girl that comes and helps cashier's when they have a problem said to me with my cart where she wanted to go "Ummm yeah I need to get over there" ?!??!?!?!?!?!?!? Does she not know how to say "Excuse me"? With the price of food the way it is and the many food store options I'm done with this store, is rather give my business to Trader Joe's and Aldi. read more

Giant is a chain of grocery stores serving the states of PA, MD & WV, founded in 1923. I'm not sure where the name comes from, but the 2 stores I've been to are of average sizes, comparable to your local Safeway. Some even have gas stations, but not this one. They do sport a pharmacy and Starbucks. Parking is plentiful. We come to this particular location because it's close to the Hillside Cemetery where my in-laws are buried and where we can purchase fresh flowers. Service has been friendly. I want to preface this by saying- 9 times out 10, there are no issues. Today wasn't the day. So I go the Deli to get my order, I put it in before phone kiosk and it wasn't started yet (not a big deal). The big deal came when I'm standing there waiting for my order. The middle scale was a fly playground. Swarm is a strong word, but definitely 4 to 5 flies routinely landing/walking on the scale.. I'm staring at this as the guy cuts my order. There was a black dude in the deli that came over (apparently seeing what I'm seeing) promptly flips them away and I guess gets rid of whatever was attracting them. Ok- a little gross but things happen. My issue comes when the guy serving me (he was Caucasian, but this wasn't racial) tried to put my order on that scale!! It was not wiped down, cleaned or anything at this point. I promptly said something before he dropped it on there: "Yo can you use the other scale, that one had flies all over it." He looked a little indignant but did honor the request. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt, but that was gross. The Black dude saw the flies but he was not there at that time; maybe he would have intervened. It might be 6:50 on Sunday night- and I don't know the cleaning schedule but damn- clean some more. I know there are going to be flies in a store, but any time there is a congregation of flies to the same spot- something is there attracting them. Like I said, most of the time this Giant is cool- Just make sure you stand there and watch the process if your getting deli meat. read more

This store hasn't been well maintained since they bought from Genuardi's. Walked thru the parking lot today and trash everywhere. Inside wasn't much better. Workers always seem miserable or on their phones. Meat/Seafood selection is a joke. Do yourself a favor and go to the Flourtown or Willow Grove locations. read more

Super transphobic giant. Went to the bathroom with my partner who is a trans guy and am a trans girl. Was literally peeing and this employee opened the door, didn't even look inside to see if anything suspicious was going on, and simply yelled "YOO WE CAN'T BE DOING THAT THIS IS A FAMILY BATHROOM" and Went to his coworkers and stated "they were so loud, where is security when you need them" as if we were doing something suspicious and loud. My partner then went outside while I was peeing and stated to them "I am waiting for my partner to finish using the bathroom" and they just turned the other way and didn't respond. A few things. Check dates. I often find outdated packaged food. They often run out of certain things and slow to replace yet the willow grove giant has the items. Seems like an internal problem not vendor issue. Lately things have been better so the jury is still out. Forget pizza here. Although good the woman that typically operates it is the worst employee, EVER. Not sure how she keeps a job there and it's been at least 10 years. The Starbucks crew is great. read more

I was hoping this location would improve when it was bought and changed to Giant. Sadly, they still have the longest lines and fewest checkouts. It's the exact opposite of the larger store in Willow Grove. So, it's a grocery store chain, with all the good and bad that brings. This location includes a coffee bar, hot food, cold deli, floral, etc. I'll continue to visit this Giant. All I can say is, I'm glad for the neighborhood to still have something in the area -- even if it's no better/ no worse than the chain it took over. read more

Please do not buy milk from here. When milk container break they do not clean. All the shelves are covered in old milk. Every container will knock you off your feet. When return bad milk to customer service they just put it aside and don't even smell it. Everyone knows the issue. Can not buy milk here. Makes me question other departments. Salad bar has bad bad smell as well. Like a compost pile. read more

Where I go to meal plan every single time for the next week, and I have always had the best experiences shopping here. Everyone is very helpful, the store is very tidy, and I can easily find the things I need. I live 5 minutes from this Giant but will now travel the extra miles to the Flourtown store after shopping there for the first time today. The difference between these two stores is like night and day. The store (Flourtown) seems cheerier and cleaner and the employees are so much nicer. Very pleasant experience. read more

Update: This store has actually gotten worse. For the past month, when you enter the store's lobby it has smelled like vomit. When you walk past the salad bar there is also a horrible sour smell like rotted food. And there must be no ventilation where the deli is because that area smells like fried grease. So after you shop there you smell like a combination of all 3 stenches. Will never go back there again! read more

This location is great- other than long lines on Sundays. I have never had a problem getting a raincheck for sale items that are out of stock and loved using their pharmacy (convenience is great). I like their stock and store brand items are comparable to national brands. It's also nice that you can have your favorite Starbucks beverage to sip while shopping. read more
