Lanes when sharing are tighter and not as wide as Oceana aka Jean Brink Pool in Pacifica but the Men's locker room is much cleaner, lockers are not broken and showers and toilets are also cleaner! I was told that the Hot Tub was supposed to be up and running in Sept 2024 but that is not the case! morning lap swim hours are only Tuesday, Thurs and Sat as opposed as every day and my guess is that it's a staffing issue! read more

I love that you can book individual lap swims here. It's definitely worth the few extra dollars to get a whole lane to yourself versus having to share it with up to 2 other people. The pool is part of Westmoor High School and is very spacious and well-maintained. The locker rooms have a dedicated changing area, several showers, and several toilet stalls. The lap swim is great because you can book your own lane for half an hour. You need to register online before going there because they don't do drop ins. The people at the front desk are friendly, and there's nothing better than getting your own lane. It is a very wide pool with shallower and wider laps at the sides, and I like that they are open on Sundays. read more

Kiddo has been taking swim lessons here. $60 for residents for 6 weeks. Each session is 30 minutes long. Time goes by quick. Maximum of 6 kids per class. The quality of instruction depends on who is teaching. These are young kids teaching so keep that in mind but we have had good teachers. Kiddo has always had a fear of swimming but with the help of classes, she is really starting to enjoy being in the water. I've noticed that they're pretty strict on making sure you've mastered all the skills in a particular level before they recommend you for the next level. So far they've been having kiddo take each level twice. I used to take swimming lessons at Giammona Pool with a man named Matt Ramburger since I was in 1st Grade. A few years later back when I was in the 4th and 5th Grade at my former elementary school, I had pool parties at the same place with my friends from elementary school. Good heavens, they bring a lot of aquatic memories to me. Unfortunately, Giammona Pool wasn't always a sanitary place for me to get plenty of exercise with my parents' supervision meaning that they need to sit on a bench nearby just in case there's a problem (e.g. an unknown swimmer may do bad things to me even though he/she is friendly like my people from Terreno Realty Corporation, San Francisco, CA, Suite 200). Even though COVID-19 is still entering the picture, it still remains a massive disappointment for me to not be able to swim at Giammona Pool itself even though Chris the new lifeguard mentioned in a letter to the customers who swim there a lot in the daytime need to bring their own kickboards which is considered to be a rule. I have no idea what it has to do with swimming during a viral pandemic/germy outbreak, but I can think of worse things. Swimming is one of my special talents and it should never die. ‍ read more

Westmoor alums know what I mean. I distinctly remember 9th grade PE, they had just ripped out the lockers, no hot water in the showers, and the roof was dripping with rust. It was about time they tore down the old Giammona Pool! The new facility is like a RESORT! As soon as I walked into the lady's locker room, a huge ear-to-ear smile was on my face. Nice lockers, a swim suit spinner, and large shower (with hot water and a good water flow)! The pool itself is pretty amazing - ample room in each lane and it's really clean. My daughter is 11 months old, and we just starting taking her to swim lessons here. The instructors are great, she's clearly enjoying herself and learning in the class, and the prices for classes and lap swim are also really affordable. The pool is a good size and the classes aren't too crowded, and they have a nice size therapy pool where the kids often warm up after class in the main pool. However, I have a real problem with the locker rooms. There are no hooks for towels in the shower area, so you better be really comfortable with yourself if you want to get fully cleaned off before you get dressed. There are no mats on the floor and it's all tile that doesn't drain well, so it's constantly very wet, visibly dirty, and slippery. If you accidentally drop a towel on that floor, you will feel so gross putting it back on your body to get dry. I feel so stressed getting changed in there, hoping I don't drop anything that I'm going to wear out of the building. Also, it's just plain dangerous. I can't hold my daughter in my arms every second that I'm changing the two of us, but there's nowhere else to put her down and it's really slippery. She's already slipped and fallen twice, but lucky has been OK. Even as an adult, I don't feel fully stable on that floor. I don't think it would take a lot to put in some rubber mats with drainage holes and make the place safer and easier to move in and change in. read more

I grew up in this pool. I spent ages 5-12 taking the summer swim lessons. From Guppies (level 1) all the way to porpoise (Level 7) [although there are more levels now]. I passed all of the classes when I was 12 and then decided it was time to join the Daly City Dolphins Aquatics Club (I regret not joining at 9, there's a huge advantage then). Coach Fred Wales (Mr. Wales) is the greatest mentor I've ever had in my life. He motivated me to swim hard and kept me away from some bad influences I've had growing up in Daly City. I swam religiously, everyday 5-7pm after middle school and high school, all because he knew I could become better. It was a great way to vent out my frustrations as a growing teenager and definitely kept me out of trouble. I had a cycle of school, swim, shower, eat, homework, sleep. With occasional swim meets here and there on the weekends (traveling to tahoe, orinda, south bay, etc). Now the pool is newly renovated with 4.2million from the City of Daly City. On a side note, I was also a lifeguard and coach here, giving back to the community. It was very fun teaching the courses and there's no better feeling than seeing your kids succeed. I hope there will one day be enough demand to create a Master's program that would allow adults swim in the morning everyday. I enrolled my 18 month old daughter to tiny tot tadpoles (infant & toddler class). For some reason, I expected the class to be chaotic. In contrary, it was very organized and the instructor was really good. They played games, sang and they also have toys for the toddlers. They did a lot for a thirty-minute class. My daughter and husband both had a blast! I changed my 5 stars to 2 stars, because when we came back, the instructor was different. I just had my son's 13th birthday party here and it was great! We had a group of about 40 kids and they all had a blast. It was the perfect venue for a winter teen party. The pool has inflatable tubes, noodles, some huge inflatable thing the kids were able to climb on and a basketball hoop in the pool. They were also able to go in the large jacuzzi. The lifeguards were great. Ryan was a sweet kid and very helpful as were the other 3 lifeguards who helped set up and clean up. The party room was big and accommodated our group. Plenty of tables and chairs but no microwave or refrigerator. My only suggestion to DC Park & Rec is to increase the time slots to 3 hours instead of 2. I had to purchase two back to back time slots so that we could have a proper party. 2 hours to set up, swim, shower, eat food, do the cake, and clean up is way too short. The party before us ran late and didn't leave the room on time so I'm glad I gave myself a buffer. I grew up using this pool since 2000 and now residents in Daly City/ SF area have the luxury of using this amazing, innovative indoor pool. The staff is always super welcoming and nice. The pool accessories they have are always fun to play! They even have a jacuzzi for you to relax in after your hard work of swimming! They provide lap swimming as well as swim lessons (toddlers to pre-teens). There is more of a variety of time slots of lessons during the summer time than the school year. They have designated "watchers benches" for parents to wait for the kids finish the class. Not to mentioned many birthday party's and I, myself use to go there for rec swimming and love the little pool that is heated up for afterwards... If the large pool was 5 degree's warmer I would give this a 5 star... I stopped going for my swim because it got too cold for me, but I may get the courage to go back and suck it up as I do enjoy the lap swimming and many people are pleasant there. I signed up for adult swim classes for my girlfriend and me. I am an experienced swimmer that wanted to brush up on skills, my girlfriend did not know how to swim and was afraid of it. As a result of just 5 classes, I've gotten a lot better (learned all the strokes, diving, turns), and my GF can now swim comfortably in the deep end. Classes are cheap, about 65 bucks for 8 classes and they come in beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels for adults. Most classes are empty, we were both able to get 1 on 1 instruction with our teachers. This find exceeded my expectations, I highly recommend. read more

Giammona Pool is an awesome swimming pool. The pool has nice warm 82 degree water. They use the proper amount of chlorine so my eyes don't sting if I open them under water. The pool has 11 lanes during lap swimming. They also have a hot tub which is really nice for relaxing your muscles after a long day of swimming. The chlorine is a lot more intense in the hot tub. The pool is a nice size - 25 yards x 25 meters. The pool varies in depth from 3'6'' on the shallow end to 7' for the swim lanes and 10' for the deep end. It is nice that the swimming lanes are deep enough to do all your strokes. The swimming pool is a great value. As of 6/6/15 a day pass for residents of Daly City is $6 and non residents $7. They also have swim passes good for 14 swims at $66 for residents and $88 for non residents, which is a tremendous value. The location is very convenient. There is plenty of parking available both at the pool and on the streets nearby. Improvement Suggestions: The swimsuit spinner keeps going out of order due to people improperly using it. Talking with the staff its getting too expensive for them to fix all the time so they are thinking of removing it. For me its not a big deal but it would be nice to have a dry swimsuit when I'm done. During rec diving they seem to close off the lanes and the deep side often. It would be nice if they remained opened. The reason for it seems to be the number of lifeguards on duty. I find the locker rooms & showers here incredibly slippery. Be sure to have good slip resistant slippers. read more

I'm a 40 year old swimming virgin, and I just recently started taking swimming lessons. The instructors are awesome, very encouraging and patient to their students. I could tell how involved they are in making the student a better swimmer: the grading includes specific comments on your technique and how to make you swim better. Justin and Cole are great instructors, and they make it a fun and relaxed environment to learn especially for a 40 year old swimming virgin like me! As far as facilities goes, the place looks clean and orderly. There's an upper deck where the parents/visitors can check out the pool from above. There are no soaps in the dispensers in the shower/bathroom area, but I guess that's not included in the budget. Just bring your own soap/body wash/shampoo and you'll be fine. And don't forget non-slip slippers in the shower areas. Overall, the experience is great, and I would definitely recommend this pool to friends and family. read more

I have two kids that have taken swim lessons here this year. The kids (instructors) that teach the lessons have always been attentive and helpful. They are nice and I don't have any negative things to say about them. However...the reason I only gave 4 stars is because on a number of occasions the main life guard, on the chair at the front corner, was not paying attention. They, it was both girl and boy at different times, we're chatting with other life guards and it clearly distracted them from keeping an eye on the pool. There are at least 30 children and adults taking lessons which mean a lot of opportunities for accidents. The main life guard must, at all times, keep a diligent eye on the patrons in the pool. I understand they are teenagers but there are nervous little kids in the pool and having that trained eye can mean the difference between having a good time and administering CPR. Please just do a better job of monitoring the pool because my kids (and other parents kids) are in the pool. read more

I wouldn't be surprised if the people who are giving awesome reviews of this place are people who work here. I enrolled my son for the parent participation class. My boyfriend and i were hesistant because the lifeguard had his shoes on and there were too many people in our class but our teacher was AMAZING! He explained everything in detail, he always went one on one with a child and I like how he always consider the younger kids like my son. Now that I enrolled my son the second time, it went downhill. My class has at least 16 people and the girls who are teaching are goofing off then teaching. There are 16 parents most don't even listen and go and do they're own thing. Waste of money if you ask me. My old teacher came to sub and organized the class. He divided us the class and had us all do something similar to each other. Wow the remodeled pool at Westmoor is nice! My bestie had her son's birthday party here and it was great! The kids enjoyed swimming and the party room is big and spacious. Plenty of room for all the tables, kitchen and plenty of parking for the guests. The only thing which was crazy is they rush you out. The staff comes in and starts throwing things away and the guests seemed a bit startled. Other than that Giammona Pool is a great spot for parties and swimming! read more

I have been here for events, free swim, and lap swim and enjoy my time here every time. The staff is friendly and keep a good watch on everything. Cost for the lap swim is $6, which is not bad for up to a 2 hour session. I think they put a little too much chlorine in the water, but w all the kids, I guess you can't blame them, and it's nothing a decent pair of goggles can't solve. The pool itself doesn't get too crowded for the lap swim, which let's everyone swim at their own pace and even the people that swim there are friendly and sharing lanes is never an issue. My kids have been coming to this place for over a year. Week after week, their staff is friendly and attentive. It's a busy place. At any one time they have at least 6 classes going on plus maybe 6 lanes available for free swim. Boy are they on top of the time too! You get whistle announcements at 10, 5 and 1 minutes until the class ends. (UPDATE: witnessed two irate parents complaining that the instructors "lost" their child. The parents could not find their child after the class ended, and the instructors could not tell them where the child was. This one is completely on the parents. You get warnings from the lifeguard about the end of class. As a parent you know the class schedule. BE THERE when the class ends. Also don't be on your damn phone. I've seen too many parents not realize their child needs to use the restroom midway through the class and the lifeguard ends up wasting energy trying to flag the parent down to come help (WTF!?). Worst yet, parents drop off their kids and then rush off to do errands. If you're gonna be concerned about safety, be there. Way too many kids coming into the pool for their scheduled class and coming out to expect the instructors to know where the child goes after class (especially if that child is older and more independent). Ok, I'm off my soapbox now. Classes are typically 30 minutes. The instructors have been really good, though at times there are stylistic differences that can cause some confusion for the kids (but just tell your kids to ask for clarification; they need to learn to speak up anyway. It's good for them). The classes range in ability from toddlers who need to be carried by a parent, to kids who look like a squad of marines doing drills. The classes typically last about 6 sessions with the 5th session used for testing and the 6th for half instruction half free play. Students get a report card during the 6th session giving them details about how they did and if they can move up to the next level. Parking can be an issue so plan ahead if you want your kid, or yourself to be on time (especially during AYSO soccer season! -google it; lazy!). read more

I was finally able to swim in the new remodeled pool this past Tuesday for lap swim . It costs $6 for Daly City residents and $7 for non DC residents (too expensive for my liking). I don't know what time lap swim started, but it ended at 8:30pm. A huuuge pro for this pool is its size. It's great that the pool is large enough to accommodate 4/5 lanes of lap swim, a swim team practice, and swimming lessons for little kids. We have been going to this pool for our kids' swimming lesson for years off and on and have been loved this place. The staff has always been very friendly. The swim instructors are pretty good. The fees are VERY reasonable. The place is clean. I would easily rate this place 5 stars before today. I am writing this review to provide some constructive feedback to management and hope they listen. I made my case to the manager there and it was completely useless. He even said many other parents made the same complaint and he is standing by his decision. He even gave him his manager's number and said he will stand by him. Apparently, they have a rule that all children must be accompanied by an adult when going in the hot tub. The parent MUST be in the hot tub with the child. Well, here is what I like to say: 1). I was told this has always been a policy for years. It was just never enforced - I can accept that. They have signs on the door all these years. And I do believe that as I have seen it before. No issues from me here. 2). On the sign, there are no indications on what is the definition of "children". So I asked Ryan the manager the definition. He said "teens". I pointed to my son who is 10 and over 5 feet. I suggested management should consider changing the policy to be height specific instead of age. The hot tub depth is only 3.5 feet if I recall right. 5 feet seems like a reasonable height to go in by one self. The parents are standing right next to the hot tub, I think that is good enough. 3). The language on the sign should be change to include the definition of children. I later learned from Ryan that when he said "teens", he really mean 14 or older. I would have thought teen would include 13. 4). Now, here is the biggest issue I have which I feel is inappropriate. Ryan stated he has enforced this policy since he got here a year ago. That is completely false as I know my son has been going into the hot tub by himself (with me standing at tub side) two sessions before today. The "Ask the guard on the chair to open the door" sign is new. It was ONLY today (or this week) that the staff started locking the door to the hot tub. If you are going to enforce a "rule", do it the first day or last day of the session series, NOT on the third week and claim it has been enforced for a year. 5). Bring back the old manager. I think it was a young lady who was very nice and seem to care about the customers. read more

I signed my son up for the M-Th 11:00 AM Ducklings swimming class during this last summer lesson session. I am so impressed with the instructor, Steven. He's awesome with the kids. My son is the youngest in the class, he's three years old, and the instructors (there are always Steven and one other, at least, sometimes an aide as well) are amazing. Very attentive to each child and they are paying attention, know each child's name and definitely know how to teach. I watch the other classes going on and the instructors really seem to know their stuff. I don't think you'd be disappointed in any of these instructors. I know what I am talking about and my standards are high. I was a WSI certified instructor at the old, smelly, rusty, moldy, scary (because it was set so far off the street like a horror movie setting) Giammona Pool back in 1986 - 1993 and this new pool is fantastic. Very clean and very well maintained. It's the nicest pool in the area. We have taken lessons at the other neighborhood pools and I have to say that my Daly City people have not let me down. One can usually get a lane or a shared lane most of the time. Afternoons tend to be crowded. Facility is clean. The one star deduction is that the soap dispensers are filled about half the time. The biggest plus is the staff who are high school students are the most polite and professional folks I have encountered. It's no wonder that their aquatic classes are filled. read more

I went to this pool for a water aerobics class and was really impressed with the facility. Previous reviews are talking about the old pool. This pool is brand new and gorgeous. The locker room facilities are nice too. (They have the coolest bathing suit water extractor thingy! Just put your suit in and it spins around to get all the water out. Neat!) Im really starting to think Yelpers are slipping. I just can't trust the reviews on Yelp anymore, especially when it comes to kid stuff. So, after reading the yelp reviews, I enrolled my now 10 month old for baby swim lessons here at Giammona Pool What a dissapointment. We will finish the session, but I will not be re-enrolling her here. The pros: Staff are friendly. The cons: The baby class is for ages 6m-5 years. This is too broad an age range and developmental range. The instructor is having us do things in the pool that our babies are not yet developmentally ready for. For example, blowing bubbles in the water. Young babies don't blow bubbles when you put their face close to the water, they just drink the water. Of course, the instructor knows this, but what can he do? He has to make it work for the whole group. I can't blame the instructor for this, he doesn't set the program ages, just gets the class. My advice, look for a class that has small age range groups, so they can focus on what is developmentally appropriate for the babies/kids in the class. Also, the locker room is not set up for babies, only one counter for changing and dressing little ones, and other people also use this for make-up and hair and the like, as it also has a mirror and an outlet. (and, of course, there are the occasional moms dressing their 5 year old on this counter! Really, your 5 year old can't dress herself? I know I could when I was 5.) And, there are other swimmers who just don't think about it and use this precious shelf space to just store their gym bags rather than put them in a locker.
