My family has been pleased to hire Richard Marea, Esq. to prepare our taxes -- which include a…read morerental property, investment income, childcare/ education expenses, mortgages, etc. -- for the past couple years. He is stellar. Richard uses modern digital tools like Dropbox to make it very efficient to upload W2s and other paperwork at your convenience, and is amazingly responsive to questions. Communication is direct and crystal-clear, and e-signing and e-filing returns makes the whole process a breeze. My only regret is slogging through TurboTax for so many years before Richard was recommended to my thoroughly-researching wife. The 12+ unpleasant sleep-deprived last-minute hours I save each year are worth the fair price of tax preparation from Accutax. And our tax liability seems to have dropped a bit too. We recommend this service to friends and family. The perfect reviews are well-grounded.

Upon the death of my mother, I become trustee for her living trust. Upon assuming this…read moreresponsibility, I discovered that she had failed to file federal or state income taxes for a period of six years. During this time, she sold her primary residence and moved her residence from California to Virginia. In attempting to resolve this tax problem, I contacted two CPAs. One absolutely refused to involve himself in the matter, and the second ghosted me after our initial consultation where I described my issue. Aris X. Hart, Esq., and Safeguard Law quickly and professionally untangled this very complex tax situation for me. In accomplishing this goal, Aris and his team contacted the Social Security Administration to obtain several SSA-1099s, and several other entities to secure 1099-Rs, 1099-INTs and 1099-DIVs issued during this six-year period to develop a complete picture of my mother's tax situation. Aris and his team also contacted county records in California to develop a complete picture of the sale of my mother's primary residence in California. At the end of the day, Aris prepared thirteen state and federal returns. Throughout this work, Aris was extremely professional and regularly updated me on his progress in untangling my mother's tax problems. He demonstrated compassion, painstaking attention to detail, and was clearly motivated to help me in any way possible. As a result, I can without hesitation provide Aris with my highest recommendation. I look forward to working with him in the future.

However this past year he dodged my emails/phone calls, my husband's emails/phone calls, and my elderly mother's emails/phone calls (we all file separately). He once picked up the phone and then pretended to be someone else when he realized I was calling for an update on my taxes. He lied to us about filing for an extension and took forms from my mother that he never returned. Ultimately he stopped replying entirely and we had to look for a new accountant, several months after the filing deadline. I just got a notice that I owe several thousand dollars in late filing fees because it turns out he also lied about getting an extension. I don't know what is going on and while I wish Steven no ill will, please do not work with this firm or him. I don't want this to happen to anyone else.

I was more than satisfied with their explanation and eagerness to earn my business and trust. I've taken them up on the offer to work with them so have updated the review initially and provide a final review once completed. ______________________________ Let me say the reason I reached out to Capitol CPA is because of their excellent reviews and they were my first pick. However, it's difficult to go with a company or trust them with your taxes when they can't even respond to you in a timely manner or at all. Let me detail my experience below: December 16, 2019: Send an inquiry through their website asking about availability for new clients. Receive a response from Steven that they're currently evaluating their capacity and will get back to me in a week. I respond immediately asking if I should follow up in a week or if they'll let me know? *CRICKETS* December 26, 2019: Ask for an update. Hear nothing, follow up with an inquiry through their website December 31, 2019: Receive a response from Steven apologizing for letting this slip through the cracks. They have room for new clients and ask for information. I respond an hour later with the information. *CRICKETS* January 19, 2019: Another follow up. Ask for an update. *CRICKETS* January 31, 2019: I give up. I reached out to three other companies and they immediately responded, asked for my tax information which I provided, and... immediately responded. So thank you Capitol CPA for wasting my time.
