There are many products that are in date and you can really get a great bargain, and then there are the Eastern European Imported products that are as entertaining as finding a tin in your pantry without a label and daring yourself into eating whatever the contents may be! I particularly like the Prospect Venue as I have found the staff there particularly friendly and always keen for a brief chin wag while scanning your goods....not too much of a chat, just enough to pass the check out time. No one likes a 'Chatty Cathy'! P.S. If you have a sweet tooth like myself you save a bundle if you stock up rather than going to traditional sources!

Those of you unfamiliar with the Rite Price chain may wonder why I am bringing this up, so here's the deal: Rite Price is a discount supermarket. Not all, but most of there wares are on the shelves because they are near this use-by or past their best before and are therefore severely discounted. So here's a depressing fact - 20% of all our groceries go to waste...and I recall that when we had the supermarket, a lot of stuff ended up in the bin. It's such a shame to straight out waste food - but you can prevent food being wasted by supermarkets AND save yourself a BUNCH of dolla dolla by having a look at Rite Price! Now they don't have EVERYTHING but if you head here first, you can definitely plan around what you can find and as the previous reviewer wrote, yes there are always plenty of cheap treats for the sweet tooth. Recent bargains - HUGE wheels of cheese - brie, blue and all the fancy ones, still in date for a few days for only $4.50. Perfect for the weekend picnic, yes? Added bonus - they are now open til 7pm on Thursdays for all those who work all day long! - enjoy the cheap life!

All of it tends to be on the cheaper end of the scale and there are plenty of wardrobe basics such as leggings, track pants, plain socks and T-shirts. But you can also find some really cool stuff that you just wouldn't see anywhere else. As the name suggests, this is not high fashion, and the store reflects that. The venue is underground and very little has been done in the way of decorating. It is not a place for the claustrophobic shopper. However, prices are cheap, there is a lot to choose from and the owners have never judged me for buying 16 pairs of bed socks at once.

As a professional cheapskate, I pride myself on my knowledge of local cheap spots. Super Dollar Variety is the best dollar store in my area, with the biggest range of hardware, homeware, kitchenware, garden ware, all the wares you can think of. Super Dollar Variety seems to specialise in useful things - like drill bits and garden hose attachements - distinguishing itself from the other dollar stores in the area. Sure, some of the things break quicker than others, but still. Like most cheap stores it has a puzzling but cute range of odd meerkat/dolphin/walrus/mystical-animal-of-choice sculptures, so don't worry you can get useless stuff here too. The place is called Super Dollar Variety, which - by the way - is hilarious.

So if you're looking for tongs, plastic tubs, scissors, string, toiletries etc then this is a great stop over instead of paying $5 more at the check out elsewhere.

It's got a little bit of everything in here and a good place to buy bins, cat and dog toys, baskets and all sorts of other incidentals. Out the front is an array of items and they're keen on stocking fake flowers but it's not the designer type, more like the ones some nationalities like to place on grave sites. Also a few dog plastic dog kennels and no different to the kennels stocked by some other stores at much higher prices. The lady behind the counter is nice and friendly and has been each time I've been in the store and the store itself has been located here for a while. As the name implies it is a cheap store but with some useful finds.

These kinds of shops are always bit messier and more disorganised than "regular" shops - which I don't mind, I come there for the prices not for the ambiance. Crazy Clarke's, when judged by that standard, actually holds up pretty well. It still has that bargain shop feel of clutter, but a lot less than some places I've been to. There are a crazy amount of stores all over asia and now they are branching overseas. It has Chinese origin and is jam packed full of stuff. Yes, stuff. Lot's of stuff. I don't know where to begin? Stationary, mugs, slippers, bags, pillows, toys, scented sticks, jars, things... things.. and some stuff. There is also a whole section devoted to gigantic toys. You know the ones that you see at the Royal Show for prizes when you win alley games. Those ones. I think if you are looking for cool little jars and storage containers you might like a few things here. But, otherwise just be prepared to be overwhelmed with things. Actually, I know who will love this store. High school students. This is a store for kids that want cute little toys to hang off their school bags, cool stationary and shiny objects to decorate their rooms. Don't get me wrong, there are some cute things here. Like a whole lot of cute stationary items. Loved the note pads and pens. But then I saw a flower bouquet of rabbits and teddy bears. I mean, who wants that? But, in all honesty, you should probably go have a look. It's not like any other store in Adelaide.

Their products include cooking equipment and utensils, glassware, spices, rice, pulses, cooking oils and of course Halal meat. On the entertainment side they have movies, cd's in either Indian, Persian or Afghan. Also there is the latest news available and they serve drinks and food ready to eat. And fresh fruit and vegetables...I don't think they'd bother going anywhere else. I enjoyed coming here and for my next dinner event I intend on doing some middle eastern cooking.

Service is friendly without being persistent, and they'll often bargain or throw extra things into the bag with you if you're willing to get your bartering shoes on. With easy parking and an incredible range here, you can get it "cheap enough" to warrant a visit on any day of the week. BIGGEST DOWNFALL? These guys can't do refunds "unless the manager of the shop is around." When will the manager be back? "Oh well you know, he comes in and out, we never really know when he'll be in, he's only around once a week or so." ie. They don't do refunds or exchange so make sure you definitely need what you are buying.

Last winter they had a great range of coloured socks, beanies and fingerless gloves for very cheap. Their garden stuff isn't bad either - a few months ago I bought some seeds from here that have just yielded a little crop of fresh peas. My favourite thing to pick up here though is fluroescent paint. That might be a bit obscure, but they have the most amazing coloured flurorescent paint at Get It Cheap!

It's a standout destination for budget seasonal stuff: costumes, part supplies, decorations etc. And they also have plenty of other stuff, Cheapo tools, economical stationary, low cost-luggage... Tends to have lower prices than Cheap as Chips downstairs, so check this place first.

Old war mementos, glassware, even one walk duck, old photographs and stacks more. Again, if the SA Film Corp ever needed stuff for sets or props, etc they need to come here unless they've already discovered it!
