Side note, my son has down syndrom and got to say, Captian Eric was awesome with him to help keep him engauged and teaching him the art of fishing. I'm not sure if he was the owner or just a booking manager but he was not on our trip as we went off with Captain Mike and Donnie the deck hand. I will say this, Captain Mike was kind of a jerk. He didn't know we had 18 coming. I think he only thought there was 12. But I'm not sure why he would be frustrated with this. I had to pay him in cash the remainder and he didn't know the remaining balance either. After that was takin care of he was just sour saying the waters not good, too much wind, etc etc. Start with a positive note! Donnie on the other hand is the man! Cheerful and talkative and super helpful. Set all our lines up, cut the fish up and threw all lines out. We were able to land a huge redfish within 30 minutes out in the jetty. Now this is where an issue we had come in. We are all from out of state, Houston and the website addressed that we all just have fishing licenses and when we do get the red drum tag. We did it all online since we are from out of town. However we didn't get physical red drum tags. So we weren't able to keep any fish. This is where Captain Mike turns around and felt our frustration. He tried his best to figure out this scenario for us but in the end we didn't have physical tags and it didn't work out. So we decided to catch and release. Caught another big one had a good time and rush reeling it in. Got back to dock, tipped Donny who was the man and Captain Mike for trying his best for us even after a grumpy start. I would book them again. Things to note: the boat is older but their prices more than are reasonable for what you get!

Also the captain was told by another captain where to go to catch fish and he chose not to take his advice. Once we arrived at the first location the captain could not locate the cutoff rig he was looking for. We fished the spot for about an hour and failed to catch a fish. This happen again at the next location, we finally started catching fish at the third location however they were not quality fish we actually had to measure red snapper and it took the rest of the day just to catch 8 keepers. And when we got back to the Marina the captain who told our captain where to go had caught limits of large red snapper and amberjack we failed to catch any Amber Jack. It was a real disappointment.

But since this isn't Monte Carlo, I suppose the Bolivar version of a yacht would be a rusty old shrimp boat or a twin outboard offshore boat. This is a good place to launch from for fishing excursions to both the bay and gulf. From here you can access most of the main fishing holes relatively easily. Also, if you intend to fish the jetties or rigs, this is about the closest bait camp to those areas. In terms of bait, they usually have a decent selection for a fair price. You can always find some dead bait if they are out of live bait. However, BYB does lose a star since I have been here a few times when there is little bait to be found, which can be inconvenient. BYB also has a deck with chairs and a hammock to rehash (exaggerate) the day's fishing conquests. It's also a good place to wait out a thunder storm, which is what I am doing now. Well, it looks like the sky may be clearing up now, so I should get back on the water.
