I could only get a seat at the window breakfast bar on the high stools, not the most comfortable but gave a great view for my people watching hobby. The menu isn't very substantial with choice, however their cake selection is. My lunch came and for the price and the location I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't a tiny little plate, a ciabatta that easily filled me. Flat white coffee was pure velvety gold in a cup, best coffee I have had in some time. They have clearly put a lot of thought into the decor and it does create a very comfortable environment with lots to look at. The staff were extremely helpful and attentive. We ordered two croissants (one chocolate, one almond), which were HUGE! We were asked straight away if we wanted them warmed, which made them even more delicious. My only gripe was that the almond one didn't have marzipan running through it, just sugary almond deliciousness on top. The coffee was distinctively italian, quite acidic and intense, which I really liked. The bill came to just under a tenner for two croissants and two coffees- that seems a bit steep when I think of my days in the south of France where the same bill might have cost half as much, but I think for the West End it's probably comparable to other similar places (ie Kember and Jones) and has a much nicer vibe. I had a wee look at the food menu and there wasn't an awful lot available for veggies, which is to be expected in most continental-style delis I think, but the cakes looked amaaaaazing! Definitely want to go back for a slice of their red velvet cake soon, or even dinner as they're open until ten!

Pleasant and comfy seating with lap trays when you're seated on a couch. Staff vary in friendliness from the lovely to the grumpy so it's a bit hit and miss. A selection of 3 soups usually available every day with baked potatoes, paninis and toasties/sandwiches the main offering here. I am a very regular customer as this place is right next to my work, it's always busy but I think it more a case of the ideal town centre location than any particular love of the cafe!

Finding a new chippy in Partick that was well within a good walking distance to our new abode was on my list of 'Things To Do'. So step up Cafe Avanti! This is probably the closest chippy to us & I am happy to report it is a really good chippy. We usually order a sausage supper and either a fish or roast chicken supper with a portion of gravy or curry sauce (yum...slurp!) and every time we have had a take-away from here it has been nothing but damn fine. The chips always seem to be fresh (I get the feeling they only cook their chips in small batches at a time as you quite often have to wait for chips - which I always like as it means they'll be SUPER FRESH!) and their battered sausage & fish is always tasty. My favourite is their roast chicken...oh my! This avian delight is simply nom-tastic...you have to wait about 15mins for it (we usually pop into nearby Morrisons) but it is worth the wait. You get a HUGE quarter (I think? It seems much bigger though) of chicken all for £5.30 (for the supper) I think that price is pretty good considering how much you get & the size/quality of the chicken. I also am a fan of their curry sauce here which you get a HUGE cup of to go with your food and it is lovely, proper chip shop curry sauce. Mmm... Alongside the usual chip shop foodage they also sell pizzas (I am yet to try these) and their own version of KFC/Southern fried chicken ~ it always smells lovely but if I am in the mood for chicken I can't see past their roast chicken. Staff are reasonably friendly and the prices are good for a West End chippy. Also they are very handy for Partick train station or subway. Thank you Cafe Avanti for saving me from dodgy chippy Hell!

On my last afternoon, I found them to be open, so I strolled into the take-out area or as y'all call it, the "take away". My "Scottish Cousin"- not really a blood cousin, but a really good friend, told me to try a sausage and potato scone. WTH? Ok, is it a sausage roll and a potato scone? Two different things? No, he said it was two ingredients in one item. I asked the folks at the Cafe and they looked just as perplexed as I was. Ok, whatever, the line started getting long with hungry football fans and I started to panic. "Uh, chips and cheese please". The gentleman behind the counter asks me if I want salt and vinegar on it. Hmmm...never had that combo on cheese fries. So, yes to the vinegar and I forgo the salt. Best. Cheese. Fries. Ever. (Sorry, Cheese Chips) ;-) OMG. Is it the fresh thick-cut potatoes? Or the vinegar doused on the fries fresh out of the fryer? Or the freshly grated cheddar cheese??? I am now cheese fry ruined. :sigh:

Here is where it gets bizarre. you cant purchase a can of of fizzy drink at the table, it needs to be that overpriced watered down crap thats for mixers in pubs, and its more expensive, but you can buy a can at the takeaway section. don't get that at all. Service can be a bit slow. I had to wave quite a few times to get a waitress attention. Not a bad place, not the worst, but always seems busy.

The cafe is quite large with lots of wooden tables and chairs, and it's clean and tidy, but there's little in the way of refreshments, just coffee/tea and a small selection of cakes and biscuits. The one lady serving could have been friendlier too. Apart from that, it's a nice building and shelter from the elements (!) with useful leaflets about the area, and some children's toys for sale. A big car park, and it's free too.

There is usually one or two offerings for those on a gluten free diet. The cafe is gorgeous all light and airy with cute little tables and chairs. There is no soft drinks here but you can have bottled water or tea/coffee with soya milk. Today I had the raw vegan chocolate brownie which is also gluten free and it was delicious!! Very reasonably priced too at £3. It would be nice to see them offering some hot snacks too at some point in the future.
