I can't recommend this agency enough. As a first time homebuyer I had an enormous amount of questions on a daily basis. They spent as much time as it took to explain absolutely everything and totally held my hand through the entire process. They didn't make me feel ignorant or dumb either. You could tell that all the staff were extremely experienced and knew exactly what they were doing. They made sure to keep me on track with all my deadlines, and they handled everything. Okay, this Mortgage company should be avoided at all costs. Originally I was quoted a rate of 3.375%, which was decent. Then, when I actually went into contract, I was told that the rate was now up to 3.6%, and this was despite rates declining on the open market. I went back out and priced it and got a rate of 3.125%. I was just going to switch, but because my Realtor, who I really like, recommended them, I went back to Gershman and then, after supplying all the documentation for this better rate, they said they could match that rate, so I dropped the other Mortgage Company. Now with only 2 1/2 weeks to close and after supplying them with hundreds of pages of tax returns, K1's, Partnership returns, etc., etc. proving my net wealth so very much in excess of the loan amount, they said that they don't understand my tax returns and that AGI doesn't reflect what I had stated as income. You would think that a Mortgage company has the expertise to analyze a complicated tax return and know the difference between cash flow and AGI, but no, they don't even know what questions to ask to assure themselves and left me hanging at the last minute. Fortunately, I'm in a position to close with cash, but these are not honest brokers and should be avoided. read more

Terrible experience. I have closed 3 home loans in the past and never had such poor service. Our loan was denied the afternoon before the closing even though we were continually told everything would be fine. We had to accept a different loan package we didn't want because it was too late to find a new lender and we didn't want to delay the closing any further and risk losing the house. We went from a 30 year fixed jumbo loan to two loans, one of which was an interest-only, variable rate, high interest rate loan (now, we have to pay to refinance with a different lender). They work with big banks like Wells Fargo but have bad communication with them. Our mortgage broker didn't understand the underwriting process and could not explain why we were denied since nothing on our end had changed. Many promises were made and not followed through on, and they were misleading and dishonest. For example, the VP said he would give me details on a no-cost refinance for after closing but never followed through. Up until late afternoon on the day before the final closing, they still had the paperwork wrong. Communication was poor, questions went unanswered, and they made up arbitrary rules that cost us part of a negotiated seller's credit. I would advise anyone to avoid this company at all costs. read more
