Not impressed, we didn't have many choices of hotels due to a large concert and an OSU football game. The only good things I really have to say is that the gentleman that checked us in was very nice and the shower pressure was great. It is an older facility, but the floors in the room were dirty and the shower curtain has mold or stains all over the inside. It didn't look like the toilet had been cleaned. The walls are painted a dark blue and the lighting is poor even with the curtain open. The ceiling tiles are dirty with some small holes. Ensure, you get reservations ahead of time at another hotel so you don't have to stay here. read more

My wife and I stayed at the German Village Inn several times over the years and there was never any real issues until a our last visit a few months ago. We've never had a problem the cleanliness of the room and the employees were very helpful. But our last visit the woman behind the counter at check-in is very defensive and extremely rude for no apparent reason. The exhaust fan on the restroom was defective and extremely loud. I went to the desk to tell this rude woman about it and she basically told me there was nothing she could (would) do about it. So I bought a rechargeable light just so we could shower. So essentially that was our final trip to this hotel. I would recommend you research different hotels or get an Airbnb. read more

Not even worth one star! Dirty room, no toilet paper in the room. The price charged should get a much higher quality. Not enough safe parking. No pets allowed. Several years ago when our children were young this was a great place to get a couple rooms and enjoy a walk in the village to nearby businesses and restaurants. Now the police have turned their back on the area and it's no longer safe to walk. Residents are so scared they run in their homes or jump in their car when they see you walking. Prepaid for two nights. I came back at the end of the FIRST day and all my stuff was gone. The clerk who was in the office explained to me that he called the room and I didn't answer so he assumed I checked out. So he had the maid remove my belongings. He said they may be in the laundry room but would not give me the key or open the laundry room himself. So no meds toothbrush, etc. Plus wondering if my stuff was in the laundry room or had been thrown out. read more

I don't think this place even owns a vacuum. Sunflower seeds, Doritos, wrappers, basically enough stuff on the floor to make a trash charcuterie board. Walking in the room alone makes you want to shower, and a shower in the bathroom just leaves to feeling dirtier. I wanted to leave as soon as I stepped foot In the lobby but it was non refundable so we just stuck it out. It's cheap but just pay the extra $40 to stay somewhere clean. read more

The parking lot and lobby look a little sketchy which concerned me at first glance. But the hotel room was exceptionally clean, albeit outdated. The bed wasn't the most luxurious -- but it's a bed. For a good rate in a good location, I enjoyed my stay and would come back! read more

Stayed here for a long weekend, overall a decent place to stay due to it's convenient location and parking, but there were some SERIOUS problems I can't overlook: 1. Found a bedbug in bed with me the morning we checked out. Now the mysterious bug bites in 40 degree weather make sense 2. Bed linens are stained 3. Seriously gross water stains on bathroom ceiling, and the bathtub floor feels soft, like if you jumped up and down in the tub you would break through the floor 4. Continental breakfast includes: yogurt, frozen breakfast burritos and not much else. Might as well not even offer it. If they fix the basics, like BEDBUGS and new linens, it would be a great little place to stay. Also, thanks to the front desk guy who gave us $40 when we told him about the bed bug we found. I appreciate the tip but I can't keep quiet about some of the things we experienced. read more

You know those single-use floss picks? With the inch or two of floss stretched across a plastic handle? Yeah, well... they belong in a garbage can. Not in a bed, under the covers. I got the impression that the hotel didn't bother with even the most basic room maintenance before I checked in. Someone else's business was in the toilet. So not only did the previous guest fail to flush, but the maid didn't bother either. Ugh, that's just nasty. I don't want to be greeted with that! None of the light-bulbs in the bathroom worked. Another thing that just made me go, "huh?" Like, are they even trying? The hotel does get some points for its location inside the city: restaurants were walkable, and the address is along a bus route. Right behind the hotel is a pretty park with a pond, and the state Capitol building is about a mile away. It's a decent location if you'd like to do some sight-seeing. And that's the weirdest part about all this: the hotel could actually be pretty great if they just put in even a few minutes of basic care and maintenance. Absolutely terrible! Never again will I step foot into this hotel. Shame on management for not inspecting what you expect. Filthy! You need to fire your house keeping staff and start from scratch! Obviously you have a team of lazy employees who could care less about the customer experience. -pubic hair in bathtub -boogers on bed (I can't make this up) -blood or some stains on bed skirt -sheets were absolutely not clean -a layer of dust on all surfaces -phone did not work -the number on the phone (to call hotel) was incorrect -fingerprints all over microwave -Mirrors were dirty And to add to this...the beds are old and not comfortable and the walls are incredibly thin! I don't need a fancy place to sleep when I am traveling. When I was 17 I fell asleep drunk in my parent's front yard for a few hours and woke up with a slug crawling across my face. I was still drunk when I woke up, felt it on my face and calmly removed it and set him in the grass. My point is when you "enter sandman" and begin your journey on the astral plane, who cares where you are? It is when you are awake when you are aware of your surroundings. So if you are like me and go on vacation only to watch Steven Seagal's Out For Justice, well, actually I watched that in a dumpy hotel in Florida so who cares about fancy accommodations. This is within walking distance of some nice places in beautiful German Village. The Short North and other N High St neighborhoods are a fun 10-15 minute drive up the road. Disgusting is all I have to say ! Furnishings are new(er) and carpet looks new ( however , I entered the room with clean white socks and now have FILTHY brown socks ...yuck!!!) . I think the newer stuff is to try and take your eye away from the stains on the ceiling tiles , the peeling paint from the bathtub , the no fixture over the bathroom light the stains on the comforter and the list could go on and on ! Like the saying goes , you get what you pay for ! The only positives I can say is .... The old chinese proverb: You get what you pay for. I was expecting a pretty basic old room and furnishings and was absolutely blown away! Upon arriving I opened the door to find a flat screen tv, newer furnishings, and mini fridge with microwave. For the price you can't beat the stay. I picked here for the location and price was right. I will NEVER stay in this hotel or recommend it to anyone ever again! This property is disgusting. First of all, I booked this reservation on Priceline which was my first mistake. No refunds, no changes, no cancellation. I get to the hotel and the lady working at the front desk could barely be bothered to help me. Even though I requested a non-smoking room, all they had left was a smoking room. I'm a smoker, and I hate smoking rooms because they stink! So I get into my room and it smelled like a staph infection on the renal floor of a quaternary care hospital. (If you've smelled it...you'll know what i mean). I thought it was maybe the cleaning solution so I decided to wait it out to see if it subsided. It didn't. The smell was so bad I couldn't sleep. I contacted Priceline and they said "sorry 'bout it" and advised me to talk with the front desk. The guy at the front desk was appalled that I would say his hotel stunk and told me it was the "air freshener". Well, the can must've exploded. Then they went and got another can and it too exploded. I told him they used so much "air freshener" that the air wasn't fresh. He said sorry it stinks and hung up. I advised Priceline that it was so bad I was going to go sleep in my car. At this point it was 4:30am. I decided to jump in the shower quickly that was I was at least ready of the day. I get in the shower and the tub was so clogged up that by the time I was finished showering there was 2 inches of water in the tub. The bathroom mirror had a very large handprint on it, the toilet was dirty. As I went to leave I turned in my key to the front desk and advised the guy of what the problems were. I asked him, "Would you pay $70/night to stay here?" I got a blank stare. I told him this was unacceptable and I will be putting my experience on Yelp. As I was backing out of the parking lot he came running out and gave me $20. I guess that was an attempt to keep me quiet. This is the kind of seedy hotel you walk into and are afraid you're going to walk out with something you didn't come in with. Do not stay here. Unfriendly staff, dirty rooms, the smell. I recognize that this is a 1 star hotel, and I didn't expect 4-star service. But I do expect 1 thing when I book a room for $70/night. I had better be clean and it had better smell clean. read more

I was in Columbus for a graduation and just needed a bare bones type of spot for the night. This served the purpose. The room was clean and smelled good. I had a working fridge, coffemaker, television and microwave. Breakfast(Activia, bagels, danishes, muffins, bananas, apples, coffee or juice) was free. What a charming little inn! We went to German Village for the first time and wanted to stay within walking distance of places since the weather wasn't the greatest. Their smoking rooms were full, but as a smoker, I'm tickled to death they even have them. The property is immaculate and so was the room. Very up to date and clean. If you want a budget motel with no frills, this is it. Our room was clean as were the beds and bath room. As mentioned by others, it has the cable TV, fridge, comp breakfast--the basics. FWIW-most of the cars in the lot were newer and in good shape, a Mercedes, a couple Lexus, Honda Accords, etc. No '77 Mavericks or Le Cars. It's not a 4 star motel, but it you want a nice, cheap, clean, and for us-quiet place, this fills the bill. read more

This is a depressing budget property but offers a very good location for those looking to explore the wonderful German Village neighborhood. The Lobby has all the atmosphere of a checks cashing facility courtesy of the bullet proof? glass at Reception. My room (#42) was surprisingly nice and well-maintained on the inside. Everything worked well and housekeeping did a decent job during my 3 night stay. Plenty of restaurants are nearby and all of the Village is easily walkable. The main North-South bus route # 7 is a 1/4 block away. Not sure I would recommend a single woman stay here but fine for the independent male traveler. Just make sure to avoid asking the one-and-only lady I saw at the Front Desk- she is not very communicative! read more

I reserved a room a month before the Columbus Marathon and received a confirmation number. I called three days before my stay to confirm my reservation and to alert the clerk as to the time of my arrival. I showed up the night before the marathon and was told that I had no room and that I had no reservation. The clerk was very rude and refused to let me speak to a manager or owner. At 10pm the night before my 7am run I was left scrambling trying to find a place to stay. If you book a room don't be surprised to show up and have no room and confirming the room won't help. Okay, first of all, I realize that this is a budget hotel so I don't expect perfection, but this hotel fell short even by budget standards. I must have got a newly remodeled room when I stayed here a year ago because it was way better than the one that I got for this stay. Where do I start? The room had many maintenance issues. The toilet was loose and rocked on the floor. The toilet seat was an elongated size even though the toilet was standard. This meant that if you weren't careful, body parts could get pinched. Oh, and the toilet seat was loose too. The caulking around the bathroom sink looked like it was done by an amateur and was pulling away or missing in places. The exhaust fan/heater was sagging from the ceiling and looked like it could come crashing down at any time. As for cleanliness--things were quick cleaned. There was no attention to detail. Lots of dirt and dust around the edges. The carpet was so disgustingly filthy that I didn't want to walk on it without shoes on. The only employee that I had contact with wasn't exactly pleasant but was not rude. I seemed to be troubling her. The only two good things that I can say is that the beds were comfortable and the air conditioner appeared new and worked well. This is the only reason that this hotel squeaks by with two stars. Otherwise it would have definitely been one. read more

All I needed was a clean bed, clean bathroom and WiFi and I got all 3 here at a very affordable price. As with what other reviews mentioned, it's no frills, check-in took me less than 5 mins, check out is basically just leaving your card at the front desk (I know most hotels check the rooms first but not here so make sure you didn't leave anything behind). Good area too, I was able to walk to a meeting place from the Inn and later had a few drinks at a Pub right beside it and even talk to the locals. I was lieing down too go to sleep and saw a German cockroach crawling up the white sheets skimpering. I killed that one and I saw another german cockroach crawling around the floor area. I had informed the staff at the counter and they had said they would pass that information on very friendly. I stayed 3 days and didn't see any more german cockroaches except for one smaller one thank goodness. There's not many channels on the TV but all and all if your looking for a place too bunk this place is great. I will be staying here again my next trip from new jersey to Columbus read more

Ugh. This motel sucked. I had the same experience as the first reviewer...we made reservations and got a confirmation number/e-mail. We were traveling through on a cross-country roadtrip, so it was very inconvenient that we showed up and were told there was no record of our reservation. However, the guy ended up giving us a room since there were so many vacancies. It was apparently they had NO computer system at all...everything was hand-written. When you walk into the office, it reeks of porto-potty and Indian food. Plus, there were some questionable characters lurking around the area late at night when we arrived. I guess you really get what you pay for here. The size of the room and the cable TV were probably the only positive things about the place. After you flushed the toilet, this extremely loud noise would come from the plumbing for about 5 seconds. Really weird. Anyway, if you need a cheap place to stay in the brewery district, I'd look elsewhere. read more

My dance team has stayed here twice. In 2007, I was part of the committee that planned our trip. The price was right and it was less than a 10 minute drive from the venue where our competition was. The first thing you notice is that the neighborhood it's in is very sketchy. The lobby/office also smells funny, like a combination of Indian food and something unpleasant (I think April's description of a port-a-potty is pretty accurate). The rooms are not much better. We had a myriad of problems: dirty sheets, cigarette burns on the sheets, non-working heaters (this was in November), and strange smells to name a few. Some people actually ripped the sheets off of their beds and used jackets to cover themselves because they were so dirty. The committee met after the trip and agreed that it was a disaster and we would never stay in a budget motel again. Fast-forward to 2010. I am no longer on the board and we make the same trip. Our bus pulls up to the motel and immediately those of us who were on the trip in 2007 (there were about 6 of us) stand up and exchange glances that say "OH (expletive)"! We did have fewer problems but there were still funny-smelling rooms, cigarette burns, and non-working heaters. The shower heads are cheap and the water pressure is high enough that they actually hurt. I felt as if my skin was being cut through at one point. The biggest problem with this motel in my opinion is the ineptitude of the staff. I was in a room with a heater that didn't work. It wouldn't turn on and we noticed some black residue around the outlet. Upon talking to the guy at the desk (hoping to get a new room), he said he would try to fix it. He came up and pushed the buttons (which we had done) and said he would try one more thing. He disappeared around the corner and a few seconds later I experienced one of the scariest moments in my life. We heard a hum and suddenly the outlet practically exploded. Sparks and fire and smoke poured from it for a good 2 seconds and we all ran out of the room yelling. The manager walked back around the corner and casually explained that he would move us to another room. REALLY IDIOT?! WHY WOULD YOU TURN ON THE POWER AFTER YOU NOTICED BLACK RESIDUE AROUND THE OUTLET?! At least the smoke detector went off... I don't care how cheap the rooms are. STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE. read more

On planning a trip to Columbus, I got a great deal on this room. It is located smack-dab in the middle of a great neighborhood, next to a delicious pub full of yummy food, and a short walk from several local treasures. The property itself is dismal, however. Everything is brown and depressing, very bleak. The front desk was not friendly or helpful when I checked in. No elevator that I saw. Adequate parking but not much security. My room had a deadbolt but no other security measures, bathroom was dingy/dirty, towels were gray from being washed too much. Bed was comfortable and A/C worked well. Free WiFi (decent signal), mini fridge and microwave in the room, vending machine downstairs for drinks and ice. However, I was gone all day and when I returned after midnight, no one had cleaned my room or brought fresh towels. I called down to the front desk and the woman told me that she had no towels down in the office and I'd have to come down at 7 AM when the manager came on duty to get fresh towels for the shower. Shower went from scalding hot to lukewarm then back to hot without me touching the knob at all. NO toiletries, you are given one bar of 'all purpose', very cheap soap and that's it--- no shampoo or conditioner, so bring your own. The second day I noticed a few little flying gnats in my room. Would probably not stay here again--- for twenty bucks more a night you can stay at a nice place in the middle of downtown. read more

This my best value hotel when I work in Columbus. It's everything you need - clean, quiet, nice neighborhood, close to downtown, mini-fridge, microwave, coffee maker, iron, at a very affordable rate. The owners are nice. Most of the staff and owners are Indians. Some do not speak English as well as others, so be patient and kind. I have read other reviews stating that the staff is rude. I havent found a single rude employee here. Perhaps, it is the customer who is rude. The outside of the hotel looks a bit rough, but the inside rooms are nice. Only now experiencing my first night here, and wowee... Though the room appears nice at first glance- good size, no distressing smells- it doesn't stand up to actual examination. There's a fine layer of grease on everything human hands might've slid over at any point in time, the carpet doesn't kook like it's been vacuumed recently, I'm completely avoiding the spinny wheely chair (aka the best kind of chair ever) because when I arrived it was visibly coated in grime. Even after a hasty wipedown with what I can hope was a clean towel, it remains sticky. No spinning or rolling around on this visit, I guess. :c I have reason to believe someone was stabbed in this bed, judging from the rich tapestry of stains, but at least there don't seem to be bedbugs. The plumbing is wonky, the hot side of the dial pumps out cold water and vice versa, the water pressure in the shower is akin to soft weeping, and nothing is draining well. (also the shower curtain is just plain fabric??? It was absolutely useless, thanks) Outlets are sparse, prepare to battle for them. The tv's nice and the wi-fi is mostly responsive, only getting dodgy with one device. I suppose we shall see tomorrow if the maids take off with anything. read more
