I brought my car to him 14 months ago with an idling issue in hopes that he could get the car running normally--the idle was sporadic and would eventually die. Over these 14 months, Chuck, the owner and mechanic of this shop, contacted me rarely with updates. I would contact him probably 9/10 times we spoke to see what was going on with my vehicle. Every week or two it was the same story of "We are so busy I will be getting around to it soon", "I lost someone I recently hired", "It's raining this weekend, we will get to it soon", "I'm working on installing this item (said the past four times I checked in)", etc. Over this time period he adjusted the timing chain of my car's engine, recoated my fuel tank, and put a new fuel pump in. I looked up how many hours of labor this would take for the average mechanic and it came to around 31hrs. Let's be generous and double this time to 62hrs. If he were so busy that he had to spread 62hrs of work over 14 months, he should not have taken on my project. As the customer, I very much felt in a bind because my car's engine or fuel system was torn apart and to have it towed to another mechanic to pick up the pieces would very inconvenient and probably cost me more. On top of this, every time I would call he made it seem as if the car was going to be ready in just a weekend or two. He at no point gave me an indication that it would take 14 months for him to finish. He said before I brought the car to him that he was an expert for the particular make/model of car I had, and when I picked up the car he said my car was in "race mode" and he didn't know how to work with that. If he had told me from the beginning that my car was in "race mode", I would have taken it somewhere else. I paid car insurance, taxes, etc. on the car over this time because I was being made to think it would be ready very soon. He also stated he didn't test drive my car to see if it was running properly. I had also noticed some damage to my car and before I picked it up brought this and the fact that if my car were not running properly, I would not want to pay in full over phone. He became very irate with me over the phone and stated he was not responsible for any damage to my car because it was parked outside (in his lot). He was not to be reasoned with or challenged. I feared for the safety of my property (as he stated it was not his responsibility) and myself, and therefore paid in the hope that I could settle this elsewhere. This whole situation has been a very big waste of time and money as when I got the car home the idle was unchanged, and I would never consider bringing it back to him. Most recently, I did have the car repaired and the mechanic provided information on his invoice stating that the timing was off (which Chuck supposedly fixed), my new fuel pump was installed incorrectly and not the model/type appropriate for my engine, and I had a leaky fuel injector which had filled my cars engine to the top with oil/fuel mixture causing who knows what damage when running that way. He was not able to spot a leaky fuel injector having replaced all other parts of the fuel system essentially. I have been treated very poorly by this business owner who did not help what I brought my property to him to fix.

A true hardworking honest mechanic is hard to find these days. He is both.
