I've had three experiences at this place. The first time was OK, and there wasn't anything to complain about, even though I later found imperfections in the paint job (sorry, I'm too particular). The other two were for my other vehicle, and I didn't have a good experience, particularly worse the second time (we'll talk about it soon). They messed with the steering alignment on my vehicle such that centering the wheel now takes the car to the left, so I have to drive it with the steering turned slightly (but noticeably) to the right. When I took it to them, they told me it was the closest alignment possible, even though it wasn't like that before I took the vehicle to them. The second experience was earlier this year when they had to replace the front and rear bumpers and the rear tailgate glass. They left spare parts in the vehicle, including the worksheet containing internal records of the work done on the vehicle. One of the pieces turned out to be a sound-dampening piece, so I wonder why the cabin noise is so "improved" after I got the vehicle back! Not talking about the quality of the glass itself (probably they aren't to be blamed for it?), they punctured the weather shield (denying that they touched it), and just today I noticed HEAVY DENTS right next to it, probably added while removing the glass for replacement. Now they can't tell me that it was there before, as I'm someone who's very particular about his cars and performs a deep clean every alternate week or so. I don't even feel like driving to their place, wasting my time, and returning home feeling discontent with their response. I was told that they would arrange for a weather shield, even though they denied that it was their fault. Surprise: I still haven't heard about it from them. I remember I did put a review the first two times, but I avoided multiple reminders from them as I didn't want to spoil their ratings by placing a negative review. I guess I cannot stop myself anymore, especially after the dents I discovered today. If you're reading this, I'd definitely recommend taking your car elsewhere, which is something I'd do (God forbid if I had to), and let someone else ruin it for me. read more

We are very pleased with the repairs to the tailgate of our new Hyundai Tucson Hybrid. Returning to a parking lot to find it had been damaged while it was still so new was very upsetting. I was recommended to go to a Gerber Collision and Glass since my typical spot doesn't do auto body work. I was told they were the more affordable choice out of the two nearest places. All I needed was to replace my bumper and my fender. When they went to do an estimate they started telling me I needed a fog light replaced, new tires, a new headlight, etc etc. When I refused their recommendations and asked to just get what needs to immediately get fixed the employee became super rude. She told me that if I move forward with the service & they decide they want to fix something else that they're going to do it and charge me for it anyway even though I declined. The employees were unapproachable from the beginning, the waiting area was filthy & uncomfortable. The table I was sitting near had practically half an inch of dust piling up on it. Our Ford auto repair was pretty simple and could be done by any auto repair. Gerber had the plus 10 ingredient for us to return. Their Curtmer service is excellent. The front desk people arranged a rental, pick ups and drop off, and most important sssqukickly order the parts so that we could take a on the road drivers test in our own car. They pointed out it would be easier when you know the vehicle. The DMV deadline was approaching. Gerber did their best!. The car looks great. I should mention, Gerber Chicago painted 2 antique steel chair for me years ago. I bet you did not know they could do that. The chairs were tarnished and a bit rusty. I was so upset when my car accident occurred but that all changed when I met Darryl Harris. He reassured me that he was going to take care of making my car look brand new. My car was everything to me since it was the only thing I had new, since my divorce. Darryl was a Godsend, a great listener and pointed out what he was going to do to restore my car. He went above and beyond. He even replaced my headlight that went out. Gerber is so blessed to have such a wonderful man who not only loves his job, but has such a way with people. Customer service is so lacking in today's business, especially with Covid. It's difficult knowing who to trust, and who to go to. My insurance company USAA trusts Gerber, and that is why I went to them. I could have gone to the Gerber, in Kenosha, but they never returned my call. The one located in Round Lake isn't close by. In fact, it is out of the way. I knew I had a rental so it didn't matter which one I went to. I chose this one since it was close to my Mom. The Allstate insurance rep for the person who hit our car sent us to Gerber. At the time they were located on Rt 120 and I was skeptical after visiting the rough-looking shop for the estimate. Because I drive a late model SUV, parts had to be ordered and I was scheduled for repairs in two days time with a loaner "of like kind" to be available. I'm not sure how much of what comes next is on Gerber or the other person's insurance. On arrival, they whisked away my vehicle and took me to the loaner - a compact something or other that was not on par with even my older vehicle and definitely was not "of like kind" in any way. I was told that the responsible insurance authorized it, that I was stuck with it. It was an inconvenience. Fortunately, repairs were speedy, taking less than a full day, and when I returned to the shop our SUV looked marvelous and it was freshly detailed to boot. They even told me of potential other problems with our mature vehicle and what to watch for, which I appreciated. There was no pressure in any way from them to get these things fixed by them. Their work was good and I'd imagine their new location is more comfortable, too. read more

The original repair to the vehicle was fine. However, the day we picked up the vehicle the molding piece on the passenger window was hanging off. We snapped the top part back in so it would not fly off. I called and left a message for the Round Lake office (that is where the work was done). NEVER got a call back. I called again...the person said they would have someone call me, they are moving. NEVER got a call! A glass repair guy came to my house to fix a very small chip in the glass. He took pictures of the molding and sent them to the office. He said it was a very easy fix. They could send someone out to my house with new clips. I called AGAIN when no one called me. The girl on the phone had an attitude. She got a manger on the I think. That person went back and forth with me but finally said she would order the part. She called me a couple of times to give me an update. The last time she called she said the part is here to bring the car in anytime and they would put it on. I asked about them coming to the house like the guy said...she said no, had to bring it in, Anytime. Well, brought it in today (Saturday) low and behold they can NOT do it today. Had to be during the week. WHAT! I am so done with this place. I can't get the car there easily during the week. read more

I will never take my car to Gerber ever again. They fixed one side and didn't do it correctly and now I have tape and scratches and rust spots all over my car that I did not have before taking my car to Gerber. I took it to them because the Allstate insurance company that was paying for this recommended them in their circle of really good shops ,don't trust Gerber and anything they do.. I have never been so disappointed and dissatisfied with a company. Great that they're going to order the correct parts, since everything is completely off and moved to the right, .but kept my car for long as possible ,for it not to even be done right and then even paint on my tire and they're supposed to takeoff all the parts and paint them separately. It is disgusting of a company they can't even do their jobs correctly and what they specialize in. . I will say this. The lady in the office is super nice and tries to be super helpful. However you can't defend your employees and the way the work is done to a vehicle when it's that shitty. This is my final update and I will not be making another one as I am considering this matter closed: I got in an accident with a 2-week old car with 600 miles on the odometer. Damage was declared "minor" with only body panels requiring work (no frame damage, no glass damage and no air bag deployment). Something that you would call a "fender-bender" that affected left side, front to back. Allstate sent me to Gerber as their preferred partner (they call it The Good Hands Network). One time I showed up at the shop, my car's entire interior was covered in white dust from sanding. They botched everything, and I mean EVERYTHING! I went back 9 times to have them fix issues and they kept making it worse. I traded it at a $5000 loss just to get rid of it. The last straw was when I was adjusting trunk carpet that was left unsecured. As I went to re-attach it, I found extensive hammer damage on the panel. They were so careless that they missed few times and hit the frame. They were beating on a brand-new car with a hammer. They were hammering the panel so much it punctured holes in the sheet metal. There were gaping misaligned doors and panels. Horrible swirls on the paint. I could go on. Office staff, particularly Jessica at the front desk and AJ, store manager are good people. But the shop staff, the actual people who work on cars are rock bottom and are an embarrassment to their company. I've shown some of these pictures to people in car industry and they refused to believe this is how my car was handled. I only wish I took a picture of the interior when it was covered in white sanding dust. Or maybe it's better I didn't. read more

It has been some time since my repair, and the shop changed locations. I hope that mean it has improved too; because I had to bring the car back to be repaired a total of 3 times. The final time, it was because the trunk wasn't closing properly. The Honda dealership said it was misaligned and needed to be reinstalled. When I told that to Gerber, the guy hand adjusted the stoppers, slammed it closed, and said "it seems fine to me". At least it doesn't bounce back up when I close it now... read more

This group and location are awesome! Great customer service! Friendly, courteous staff. My wife recently (Oct 19th, 2019) took our 2016 Mazda CX-5 for a front passenger side wheel well replacement. My wife pointed out some major scuff damage (caused by another vehicle that left that damage on our car in a grocery store parking lot, which she made her very upset... do you blame her, who wouldn't be!!) and the staff (Tony) was able buff it out...and at no charge!!! My wife was super excited on the great job they did and they made her day! We have done business with this group before (when they were located on Rt 120 next to Nippersink Forest Preserve) and were very satisfied with repairs on our other vehicle (Toyota Sienna) back then. We took our vehicle over to Gerber in Round lake on 9/18 and we still don't have it. I cannot believe that this repair location has been so inept at keeping the customer informed as to the length of time needed for a vehicle repair. We have received 3 separate return dates for our vehicle repair. The first was an automated text alert that said we would have our vehicle back by 10/3 and kept us informed along the way as to the status of the repair and not once indicated that there were any issues that would further delay the return or that the date was tentative. The other instances have been with the Estimator at that location, Bob. He has shown a complete indifference to our situation given the fact that we took the car from another repair location that also demonstrated a lack of urgency and sat on the vehicle since 8/27. We paid a tow company to bring the vehicle to what we thought would be a reputable company. I explained my situation to him FIRST before even taking my car over to this location and this is a complete slap in the face from him and the Gerber Auto Collision center as a whole since he is the face of your company. I am truly disappointed in the lack of professionalism that has been displayed and will be certain to pass along my disgust with all social media and review sites for such poor service. read more

If you are looking for an auto shop especially if you are paying out of pocket, don't go to GERBER, particularly in this location. I had an unpleasant experienced with one of the repair estimators. I don't know if it was an honest mistake, poor job experience or that person was just a scam. I took my car for repair estimate in this location after it was hit accidentally by my reckless carpenter sometime in July. That person's estimate was the cheapest among the other shops. That person told me that the fender was repairable but the other parts had to be replaced. Curious, I called Gerber few days later and ask that same person to review the estimate because the 3 other shops told me that the fender was unrepairable. To cut the story short, the estimator wrote me a second estimate (fender has to be replaced) which was still cheaper among the other shops. I brought my car the next day, happy that I got a reasonable price for repair. At noon time, I decided to call the shop again to check how was the repair going. That same person told me over the phone that the estimated price had changed because the tech (repair man) found a broken bracket under the hood and the decal on the fender had to be replaced with a new set. It was more or less $900 over the previous estimate. Mad and feeling scammed, I took my car from GERBER after paying the shop $200. The shop charged me for restocking fees and for disassembling the front hood, but was not able to provide an official policy for cancellation of repair. Couple of days after, I took my car to a smaller shop few minutes from that dishonest GERBER. What happened next was surprising, the repair tech in the new shop told me that both the fender and the bracket were repairable. GERBER was wrong. Did GERBER try to scam me or what? I needed to have body work done on my Honda, Insight. It had been crunched by a Semi. I had previous experience with Gerber in another location and had been satisfied so I decided to try this one. The person I worked with was Robert and he was extremely helpful. They texted any changes on return dates and updated my insurance company. They also went to bat for me to increase the amount the insurance company had estimated when they found the car would require more work. It did take longer than they originally estimated, but when I got my car back it looked perfect. I would recommend them for both their professionalism and craftsmanship. read more

Gerber collision and Glass gets a mixed review. Their auto body and glass work was top notch. Very professional, good-looking work. That's really what you need in an auto body and glass place! But, they could use some improvement on the business side. The front office seemed disorganized and never seemed to have he right info. For example, we made an appointment and faxed all the info they requested to them, then when we arrived, they said we'd need to come back another day. Who does that? Also, we were never given status updates, we always had to call to find out the progress. That being said, the actual work was fantastic, so if you can tolerate some nonsense, the work is highly recommended. read more

It seems that reviews are positive for collision repair. Maybe they just are very poor at the whole glass part of their work. I booked an online appointment on Wednesday. They called me to cancel it because they were too busy. They rescheduled me the next day. They called again to cancel because the windshield didn't come it. They then scheduled me for Friday. Well, Friday morning they called again to tell me that they could not install the windshield in my work parking lot because it wasn't covered and it was raining. I told the man on the phone that I was working but was willing to drive somewhere to have them install it because I really needed it done. The man said that he would call me back. He never did. It is now Monday and I have never heard back from them. Friday night I gave up and I called Glass City in Waukegan and they repaired it Saturday morning and did a great job. read more

Gerber was great with my E46 3-Series E92 3-Series. Everything else has been less then exciting. My husbands 135is was lightly hit and the front bumper was resprayed by another Gerber. Well I brought the car to this Gerber to have it resprayed and address some issues with another job they had done when we were hit 2 days after we bought the car. The initial bumper repaint was chipping off. Had it fixed, no problems. I had them re-buff and sand where the blend line was because it was initially run halfway up the C-piller which is just wrong. Got it back, it looked good. then months later I was washing the car and half of the clearcoat came off in big chunks. I was done. I had the car fixed at a BMW shop not somewhere that fixes Chevys and Chryslers where substandard finish work is par for the course. I won't go back. If you drive anything German, go to my guys in Winnetka. They work on European cars and the work is top notch. read more
