While in Barcelona for our honeymoon, my wife and I decided to stop into Bar Tómas for some of their famous bravas. It was extremely crowded, so after a quick cerveza and some bravas while standing at the bar, we decided to try to find a place we might be able to sit down in order to enjoy our food and drinks. As we started meandering down the street, we came across a small green door with a chalk board. We were able to see in to the restaurant, and it appeared to be a cozy room with a handful of tables and a small bar. It looked inviting enough with a few patrons sitting around chatting and enjoying drinks, so we decided it was worth giving a chance. After being greeted and handed a menu, we realized the small menu written in Catalan, something with which we are not very familiar. After asking for an English menu, the server (who we think was the owner, Nacho?) explained he only had the one, but between his rough English and our limited knowledge of local Catalan menu items, we were able to order a handful of tapas. The calamares a la Andalusia were the most tender we've had so far in the city. Tender and mildly sweet, the breading was a bit salty, but not so much as to be a real concern. We also ordered the tempura veggies. These were piled high and were crispy and delicious. Despite not being sure what exactly we were ordering, we also ordered one of each of the 4 pinxtos. This was a great idea, because they were all delicious. The one with the fried quail egg was great, but our favorite was by far the morcilla. This was probably the best morcilla I've had in Barcelona, and if I wasn't so full from all the other food I would have ordered more of these delicious treats. The server/owner came over to speak to us a couple times, and was very happy when we told him we were on our honeymoon. After we were done eating he came over with some sort of desert, pieces of crusty croissant with chocolate and powdered sugar, and told us they were a present for our honeymoon. He couldn't have been nicer and more welcoming.
This place that we stumbled upon was probably the best meal, at one of the most reasonable prices that we have had in this city. This will be a recommended spot for anyone who asks us about Barcelona. read more
