I have a secret. After wearing any pair of jeans for a couple months I start to develop holes in the crotch region. For either gender, this can be quite embarrassing when someone else notices. What's a guy with holes in the crotch to do, you ask? Well, take it to a place that can alter/fix/clean clothes, of course!
I went to Georgian Dry Cleaners mainly for convenience since it's a measly 5 minute walk from my flat. Usually I would walk all the way to Grafton, but I'm lazy and the less I walk, the better for my crotch holes obviously. For about 30 euros these guys patched up two pairs of jeans and I thought they did a great job. Fast forward a month when I'm in the States at my parents' house and my mom tells me that they did an awful job so she makes me take the jeans to her local place. At her preferred place the man at the counter takes a look at the repair job and shakes his head and then begins to interrogate me on where and when this was done. After much shaking of the head he takes the jeans and tells me to come back in a few days. On the return I realize that Georgian Dry Cleaners actually did a horrendous job compared with how my mom's preferred place fixed them up. The main problem was that at Georgian Dry Cleaners they fixed the holes by basically sewing up the holes with tons of thread with a few patches of jeans material.
You could say I'm too fat for the size of jeans I wear, or that I should probably get better tailored jeans, but still, when I take my jeans in to be fixed, I expect them to be acceptable to my mother of all people. read more
