The Grafton Cleaners used to be based on Grafton Street, hence the name, but presumably due to the high cost of rent they moved to their current location on South William Street. They have a solid reputation, the staff are very friendly and, although they may be a smidgen more expensive than others, they always do a good job. The fringe was tangled and knotted, and the threads and ends were all frayed. Not only that, but they returned the dress and said absolutely nothing about the damage. It was only when I took the dress out of the cleaning bag weeks later on Saturday Dec 3rd that I saw the fringe was ruined. I called them immediately that day and spoke to the owner Fidelma. I sent photos over text and she told me she'd come back to me on Monday with an update, as it was Saturday so there were no cleaners in the shop. I had to follow up myself on Monday afternoon to get an update, and they arranged to pick up the dress on Wednesday. I had to follow up myself once again the following Saturday, as I had heard nothing back. Throughout the whole process I found their lack of care in following up on such a serious issue extremely disappointing - they had ruined a dress that had a lot of sentimental value but showed no proactivty in giving me any updates and never provided an explanation as to why they attempted to return the damaged dress without admitting the damage. They claimed that there was no care label on the dress so they were unsure of how to clean it correctly, and dry cleaned it. I was never informed that this was an issue, was not asked if I had care information for the dress and was not told that there was any risk to cleaning the dress. They charged me the full price for cleaning the dress and never informed of any issues or damage. Their cleaners attempted to fix the fringe and they returned the dress on Thursday 15th Dec. The fringe was still frayed and the dress wasn't wearable. They offered to replace the fringe, but said it could take weeks to source. I had absolutely no confidence in them replacing the fringe given the amount of damage that had been caused already and the lack of customer service and follow up to my original complaint. I sent a message to the owner Fidlema on Monday Dec 19th and said I'd like a refund for the value of the dress, as they'd been unable to provide an adequate repair after ruining it. Since then, I've heard nothing back and have no contact from them. It is incredibly disappointing that a business that claims to professionally clean wedding dresses would ruin a dress, return it with significant damage and not inform the customer, and simply stop responding when the issue wasn't resolved. They are clearly not offering the service they claim to specialise in, and are unwilling to provide a proper response when they damage items.

You're given An option to have your clothes serviced by staff or yourself. There is a minimal price difference but a larger time difference. If you're not in a rush the staff will wash, dry and fold your laundry by days end. If your time is tight you can load a washer and time the cycle until it's done. Put your clothes in a dryer then wait for them to dry. Easy. Staff is delightful and very helpful. I rather do my own so I came back after a 35-45 minute wash and then came back after the 45-55 minute dry cycle. I just shopped and had lunch in between cycles. It was very convenient and well managed. Other travelers were taking advantage of their services too. Highly recommend this gem.

When we got there, the lady in charge kindly greeted us, asked us if we wanted our laundry dropped off, we agreed, she weighed the bags, told us the total and told us to come back by 6pm. We were back by that hour and our laundry was nicely folded and back in the bags. Job well done. We recommend it 100%.

Large and small. The small ones fit your average load of laundry and costs €3.50 per wash. Now if you're like me and you wait to wash your laundry until the very last minute and you have to go to the launderette in your very brightest pj bottoms then the larger machine is for you. There's only two so you've got to plan your trip accordingly. And at only €4.50 it's a bit more of a bargain than the smaller washes. The dryers are huge and I normally shove all of my clothes into one. It's .80 for every 5 minutes and most times it takes about 30 minutes, so you're out about €4.80. It's not the cheapest deal in town, but at least I don't have to febreeze everything when I'm done!

I saw "New York Cleaners" in Dublin and thought: these are my people. As reasons for choosing a dry cleaner go, this may not withstand rigorous academic scrutiny. It did, however, turn out to be an excellent decision. I found myself in Dublin with an evening ahead of me, a set of tails requiring urgent attention, and the rapidly developing realization that formalwear emergencies operate according to the same principles as plumbing emergencies: They occur precisely when you have neither the time nor the temperament for one. Every formal evening begins with a plan. And, if the universe is feeling mischievous, the plan generally survives until approximately the moment you put on the clothes. Enter New York Cleaners. There are businesses that provide a service. There are businesses that provide excellent service. And then there are those rare establishments where somebody takes one look at your predicament and understands that what you need is not a receipt, a ticket, or a lengthy explanation of company policy. You need help. These people helped. And they were magnificent. They treated my predicament as though it actually mattered. There was no theatrical sighing, no bureaucratic discussion about why something could not possibly be done, and no attempt to turn their scheduling problem into my moral failing. They simply set about solving it. That may sound like a modest compliment. In the modern world, it is practically a declaration of sainthood. My tails were rescued. My evening was rescued. And, depending upon how one defines dignity while standing in a Dublin dry cleaner worrying about formal attire, there is a reasonable argument that I was rescued as well. The work itself was excellent, but what impressed me even more was the kindness and professionalism behind it. They understood something many businesses forget: These were not merely clothes requiring attention. There was an evening attached to them. That distinction matters. Anyone can clean a garment. It takes a considerably better business to recognize the human being nervously attached to the garment. New York Cleaners did exactly that. By the time I left, the crisis had disappeared, the tails were once again fit for polite society, and I could return to my evening looking considerably more composed than circumstances warranted. Which brings me back to the name. I originally chose New York Cleaners simply because "New York" was written above the door. By the time they were finished, they had earned it. In fact, if these people actually operated in New York City, there is absolutely no question where they would belong in The Financial District. Efficient. Direct. Professional. No unnecessary drama. A problem appears, somebody takes ownership of it, and the thing gets done before anyone has time to establish a committee to discuss why it cannot be done. Nowhere near Queens. Five stars. They saved my evening. They saved my tails. And they confirmed something I have long suspected: Sometimes judging a place by its name works out splendidly.
