This mall has changed for the worse. This mall going downhill which it shows in the bathrooms, lack of maintenance and repairs as well as multitude store closures. Sad that a lot of businesses have closed within this mall that it is now a ghost town. The bathrooms are horrific when not kept up on a scheduled basis. Every time I go to the mall the bathrooms near the food court always trashy and the equipment doors, toilet paper paper towels hardly stocked ,sink nonfunctional or broken. The only good thing about this mall is entertainment for the children and the food court. At this point it's sad that I now go to either Mall of Georgia downtown Athens to have a decent shopping/window shopping experience. I wasn't going to give this place any stars but in order to post i The review I had a mark at least something which it did not deserve a one star at all. read more

Eh. This place isn't too bad considering it is in the city of Athens. I mean, you can't expect there to be an extravagant mall here. Department store wise there is Macy's, Sears, Belk, and JcPenney. There are also the more popular stores such as Express, Wet Seal, AE, Hollister, Bath & Body Works, VS, and places you'd find in other malls. There is a mini food court here as well. This place is pretty much half filled with college students. Can ya guess why? lol. I was part of that crowd when I was at UGA. :) If you're in the area, go take a browse on campus. The drive is only 10 to 15 minutes. So for a college town, this is not so bad of a mall. It is two stories high with a dollar theater at the outskirts of the mall parking lot. Georgia Square Mall is and always has been* pretty crappy. Limited store selection, bargain-basement feel to some of the areas (esp. at the ends of the mall), little to no charm. I'm not a huge fan of chain stores, and I don't have a need to look in the small mall's 7 shoe stores to see the same overpriced selection over and over again. Ew. The more I think about the mall, the angrier I'm getting. This mall in particular has never been even a tiny bit crowded during any of my visits. Today it was a ghost town, with mid-hallway shop managers staring into space or clicking gum. Aeropostale has cheap jeans long enough for me. That's nice. The glasses store was pretty convenient and cheaper than the other area ones I researched. The staff at the hat store upstairs were really helpful when I had to buy a hat for a kid last school year. The dollar store is now the $1.10 store. I kid you not. The nail polish places abound and stink up the surrounding hallways. Just drive to the Mall of Georgia or to Gwinnett. I'm in a bad mood. I had to go to Atlanta for college before I realized the virtues of this little Athens mall. Yes, yes this mall is a "s'mall". As far as malls go, this mall is getting smaller and smaller because of decreasing traffic, and it's already lost a few mainstream stores since the last time I came, like "Hot Topic", "Pac Sun", and some others I probably didn't notice. It's starting to move in these bargain-looking stores, yes, like the "Men's Fashion" store (it's called that...), and some other weird "Rainbow" fashion store on the other end of the mall. They look cheap and bargainy, and I've never stepped foot in either of them. But-- the SALES here are incredible. For example, in a normal mall, a top in Charlotte Russe on clearance sale is about $10. At the Georgia Square Mall, CR tops on sale can go as low as $2 or $3, easily. Same goes for Victoria's Secret, some other mainstream stores and the department stores here-- the clearance sale prices here are basically unrivaled by any other mall I've been to. It's because this mall is going through such a slump in traffic that stores have no choice but to slash prices to stay alive-- especially the more popular main-stream stores that are forced to compete with the tiny bargain stores and kiosks with dirt-cheap prices. They have no choice but to cut prices and have crazy clearance sales any season of the year. When I want to go all out shopping, I come home to the Georgia Square Mall in Athens. I don't know any other mall where I can buy 10-15 pieces of normal-brand clothing for under $100. read more

Although the boutiques and small shops lining the streets of downtown Athens will often take up your full attention, once in a while, you will feel like doing some real, hardcore shopping. That's where the Georgia Square Mall comes into the picture. With frequent sales in all the stores it houses, you can find a lot of good deals here, sometimes a lot better ones than you would ever find downtown. And while the downtown Athens shopping is great, sometimes nothing beats the classics: Express, Charlotte Rousse, Wet Seal, etc. Besides, as lovely as Athens and its unique shopping is, we must not forget where we came from and which stores outfitted us way before we even knew of Athens' existence. read more

To whomever this concerns, It is posted online that Santa's hours are Monday - Saturday from 10am - 9pm (you can see my attachment of a screenshot of the hours that are listed). Well, my husband and I brought our 3 year old son today to see Santa (arriving at 8pm), and much to our surprise, there was no Santa to be found, and the lady at the desk was closing down. She told me that he leaves at 8pm. My response was, "No ma'am, it has posted online until 9pm." Her response was, "Yeah, I guess I need to tell them to correct that." Well, you think!? My son was nearly in tears because he had been talked up and so excited to see Santa and tell him about the toys he wanted for Christmas! And, coming from a parent of a 3 year old who doesn't understand why Santa isn't still here, I'm highly upset! My suggestion.... Georgia Square Mall - Shopping Centers Near Me - Athens, Georgia

We moved to the Athens area in 2005. We were happy to see at the time that it had a decent mall to shop. Unfortunately in the last couple of years it is quickly declining. We would go shopping and it was always hustling and bustling with college kids and parents shopping. On a recent trip, it was maybe an 1/8 of the people shopping. They are fast accumulating empty store fronts. As another stated, it does not feel like a clean, safe, enjoyable shopping experience anymore. I'm sure the mass exodus is due to the new open air shopping area over in Oconee county. It really saddens me to see this happen. Allot of good memories shopping with my kids here. read more

GAP refused to sell me an outfit at the original price (22.99) and is labeled at 26.99 (not 22.99). It was on sale for 30% off which is at 18.89. The manager said that the 22.99 the tag is misprinted so why is it still on the rack? I believe the original price with 30% off should be like 14.99 or something. The mall is ok. A great place to shop if you have small kids, because they have things for them to ride throughout the entire mall so they don't get bored or tired. I love the soft hot pretzel bites. My only problem is with the food court. The pizza place there made me sick. I have horrible stomach cramps, extremely watery diareaha, and nausea. They are the only thing i have eaten all day so I know it was them. Beware ofbthat nasty PIZZA PLACE. I WILL NEVERVEAT THERE AGAIN! read more

BUZZING WITH YOUNG FAMILIES! My husband and I stumbled upon this mall while looking for something quick to eat. Yes, this mall is small and a bit dated compared to the ones that I usually shop. However, it probably suits this small town just fine. It was very busy on the Sunday after Christmas and we noticed that it was largely populated by young families which is always nice to see. The one thing I really appreciated about this mall is the convenient location of the food court. When you walk through the front doors, you are in the food court and that was perfect for us because we were very hungry. There was no wandering through the mall trying to locate food. The food court is limited but we were able to score a couple of hot and delicious sandwiches from the American Deli. After eating, we walked around a bit and while I am not usually a fan of he individual stores, they did have two of my favorite anchors, (Belk and Macy's). If you are looking for something unique and different, just go downtown. This is the perfect mall for families and still seems to be viable. However, when the urban stores, (cheap flashy street wear) start to come into the mall, this is a sure sign that the mall is in a state of decline. This is what I call a destination mall, where you come to specific stores for a specific purpose. It is not a place to really browse and people watch because of its size and limited stores. Despite this, I hope that the major anchors, (Belk, Sears, Macy's, Penny's), continue to be a draw and that the mall continues to meet the needs of the community. read more

Whenever a friend wants to go to Macy's there I inwardly groan, because I absolutely HATE walking into this disgusting place. The food court is pitiful, the whole place is pitiful really. I can remember this mall through my childhood. My grandparents lived in Athens, and I frequented it alot. That being said, I moved right down the road from the mall several years ago. I don't think I've been to the mall but a handful of times in the last few years since i moved here. The place has quickly become an eyesore, in the twenty one years that I've been going to the mall, not much has changed. It's dated, dingy, and dirty. It has some of the worst food courts I think I've ever been to in a mall, and the bathrooms are absolutley disgusting. It's had two very poor attempts at updating, and still looks terrible. Apart from the anchor stores, the stores that are still left are the cheap discount, or urban clothing junk stores. As other reviews have stated it's mostly mall walkers, so your best bet is to head over to Epps Bridge where all the good stores have run to. read more

What can I say, it's a small town mall so there isn't much too it. There are key stores though. There is a Macy's (which is great) and a Belk's (disappointing compared to other Belks). Otherwise you have the average little stores Express, Lane Bryant... a decent food court. It's mediocre but that's okay because this is all we have here in Athens. read more

I've shopped here from time to time, but it is more of a spot for older folks to get in their fitbit steps than a vibrant shopping experience. There has been a steady decline in the number of shoppers in the past few years, and even the discount cinema is now closed. Indeed, Athens-Clarke isn't very friendly toward the businesses or their customers. Try the new shopping centers at Epps Bridge in Oconee County for a more up to date and friendly experience. I hadn't been in GA Square Mall for ages, though after a quick visit today I can't think of a reason why I'd ever need to go back. I saw an advertisement for a store in the mall that I thought might have something that I've been shopping for, so I stopped in. The mall is mostly deserted; very few people walking around and quite a few empty storefronts. Aside from the few national chains, the other stores were of the sort that you'd expect to see in a dying mall: off-brand clothes, low-end chain stores, a tattoo parlor, and bargain stores. It seems that most decent stores have fled for the new developments along Epps Bridge Road. The mall itself is terribly dated. Despite what seems to have been an attempt to update the interior, the whole place just seems old, run down, dimly lit, dingy, and sad. GA Square just seems to be surviving based on Macy's and Belk's, which were the only stores I saw that had many customers. read more

OUTDATED! This mall is terrible, there is now a new "outlet mall" called the Epps Bridge Centre and I see why it was built. This mall has a really outdated sign out front on the Atlanta Highway. The mall has some good stores but they will most likey move to that outlet center, just like Gap. I think the mall has had some good ideas to fill the empty spaces like a kid's play place in what used to be a store downstairs near JC Penny. There are a lot of shoe stores that are not needed, not to mention the department stores that also sell shoes. I am from out of town and needed a mall directory and they are sparsley scattered. The mall is very dark with only a few skylights. Like I said, I am sure in future years everything from this mall will move to Epps Bridge Centre where Gap has already moved. But until then it will be stuck in the 1980's. But there is something still good to say about it...I like the food court! read more

A lot of the stores have closed and it's obviously not very well taken care of. It's pretty dirty. But I still go because there are some stores like Victoria's secret that are decent. The food court it okay but the place as a whole could use a huge upgrade. They have a lot of good children's stores so if you have kids it wouldn't be a bad idea to check it out. read more

Since Macy's has closed this place is a dump. There are barely any people in the mall. The prices are ridiculous, the stores are slowly closing, it needs help. The only places that are decent are Victoria Secrets, Belk, Bath n Body Works, and Foot Locker. This place needs help and I like going to the Oconee Connector Plaza where there is Gap, Old Navy, Ross, etc. The mall is dead, if Belk decides to close, this place will be closed for sure. read more

I think this mall might only be 2.5 stars, but I went ahead and rounded up. They have a few decent chain stores, and it's kept pretty clean, but it really doesn't offer much of anything special. The food court is okay, but also nothing special. If you really need something to do on a rainy day in Athens you can at least come here and be entertained with some shopping. This is a pretty terrible mall, it really doesn't have much to offer especially when you compare it to some of the other malls in the Atlanta area. It usually is pretty empty even on the weekends, and lacks alot of the stores that one would expect to find in a mall. read more
