If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I have lived in Georgetown for about a year. At first it started out great, although I think you don't get a lot for what you pay for. I started out in a one bedroom apartment, right up the sidewalk from my boyfriends townhome. Eventually we decided to move in together, so I went to the leasing office to discuss how that would work, would there be a fee for breaking my lease etc., etc. I talked to the same person, Julie, on more than one occasion and she told me each time that it would not cost me any money to break my lease b/c I was moving "laterally". Just make sure you get anything they tell you in wriitng. A couple months pass and I officially do the paperwork to break my lease. I then lost my job. 15 days before I'm supposed to be out of my apartment Julie calls and is "sorry" to inform me that she made a "mistake" and it turns out I do have to pay to break my lease. Like over $1000, or I can just stay in my apartment, you know, the one I'd already moved the furniture out of and half my stuff and was using the last 15 days to bring over the little things and clean up? No big deal right? I don't think so. So that was my first big problem with the leasing office, the girls there can be nice, but they have no clue how to do their job and when they severely inconvience someone to them it's like whoopsy, when to you, it's a pretty big deal. And they're not interested in working with you. At all.
I moved into my boyfriends townhome and not shortly after, we started having issues with our hot water heater. It's the dead of winter, negative whatever outside at 530 am when I need to be showering and there is barely 5 minutes of luke warm water, then the rest is cold. We called for maintenance and yes, maintenance is responsive, but they usually can't fix anything on the first try. First they argued with us that it couldn't possibly be as bad as we thought, so we had to keep calling and asking for someone to come check it. Finally someone did and they put a thermometer in the water and were like, oh, yeah, that's actually really bad. DUH. So first they replace the thermometer on the heater, didn't work. Had to keep calling, calling, calling for service. Then they try descaling it, also did not work. After 3 visits over the course of weeks, plus calls trying to get someone to take us seriously about how cold the water was, they finally send out a guy who takes one look at it and says, this needs to be replaced. So, after a few months of freezing cold showers and going back and forth with the leasing office and the stupid maintenance staff, we finally got a new hot water heater. And yes, that maintenance guy was awesome, helpful and the heater being replaced, once we waited a week for it to come in, was taken care of quickly. But, during all of that they had some creep maintenance guy come in to our bedroom, where he didn't need to be, and rifle through my underwear and take some too. So, my boyfriend (a police officer) spoke to the manger who was "so sorry", but didn't really seem to do anything about it...
After that, water from the upstairs bathroom started leaking and pooling in the ceiling of our living room, dripping down the walls. So we had to call and have that fixed, which they actually handled very well and we were actaully impressed. Until last night....
Our toilet overflowed on Easter night and left our upstairs bathroom with 3 inches or more of standing water. The maintenance guy came and fixed the issue, but had nothing to help us soak up the standing water, which soaked into our upstairs carpet. We had to use blankets and sheets to soak up the water b/c the maintenance guy didn't have a wet/dry vac or access to one? Told us to use a fan. Which we did, but now we have 2 trashbags full of toilet water soaked sheets and blankets that we will now have to pay to wash in the laundry rooms there. And because we couldn't soak it up fast enough and the maintenance guy was no help the water seeped through the ceiling in the living room, was dripping down the walls, and somehow flooded our smoke detector which is now ruined. I'm still waiting for the main office to open to see how they want to handle it and I'm certain they won't really care.
Long story long, this complex sucks. The apartments are old, like no ceiling fans or over head lighting old. Lead paint old. There are gaps under the doors leading outdoors that are constantly drafty, even when they replace the rubber strips, it's still drafty. It's like whenever something goes wrong, the leasing office couldn't care less if you are inconvenienced. Which leaves me to think, if it were happening where they lived, would it be important to them? We always pay our rent on time and we dont' cause any problems and when we have needed something repaired in our apartment it's always like - meh, gee we're "sorry". We will not be renewing ever again. read more
