5 star does not do George justice. My older GE washer was not throwing water out so the water would fill and just sit (and smell). I looked up George on Yelp, called him around 3pm, he showed up at 6:30 after leaving another job (on a Saturday), and not only fixed my original problem of the water filling but also made the water fill faster in the water and at a more fuller stream. George is wonderful. He was willing to service our air conditioner the next day...6:00 P.M. on a Friday. The first company we had look at it said we needed a new unit and wanted to charge us close to $2000. George took a look at the unit, said it was dirty, cleaned it for us, refilled the coolant and charged us $185. He then did a quick look at our appliances (we just bought our place and he also repairs all major appliances) and gave us advice on how to keep them clean so we could keep our maintenance to a minimum. I talked to George about the problem with my refrigerator. Geroge gets 5 stars and he did not even have to come out to fix it ! So how did he earn his 5 stars? Simple. He told me after figuring on the cost to repair, the age of the fridg, and the price of a new fridg, I would be better off buying a new one. What motivated me to give him such a high rating was his honesty. He could have just as easily had come out to take my money knowing that in the near future other more serious problems could be forthcoming. The fridg is 12 years old, and the price to repair is about a third of the cost for a new one. I appreciate that honesty for sure. Bottom line: If he is that honest about not wanting to take my money and tell me I would be better off in buying a new fridg, then I have to think that he would do a good and honest job at repairing any fridg if it was needed. read more

This is going to be super short and sweet. George is an amazing honest man. I've never met the guy in person but my fridge went out and I called George to schedule an appointment to have him come in and fix the fridge before I had a smelly hot mess all over my apartment. He answered my call at the oddest time of day (9:00pm) and asked me what the problem was. I explained the problem over the phone and he told me what I needed to do. I did just that and before I knew it my fridge was working. Woohoo!!! I called back (around 10:00pm) and told him that everything was working and appreciate his help, how much was it and where should I send him the check. This morning, around 7am, I woke up to find my fridge wasn't cooling properly. I googled "Chicago Appliance Repair" and called the first top rated place I saw. There I spoke to a nice receptionist that took my info and told me a repairman would call back shortly. I didn't know how long it would take, so I kept looking and came across this page for George. I called him about 7:30 and he picked up himself. Not some receptionist or dispatcher, but the guy that would come out to fix the problem. He asked a few questions, then told me he could be there by 10am. I called into work and waited. At 9:13am, George called and said he was out front and asked if I was home. He immediately got to work, and diagnosed the problem as a bad thermostat. He luckily had the part in his van. Then he discovered the fan motor had burnt out and should be replaced. He did not have this part on hand, but drove up to Evanston to a supplier and found it. By 12:00pm, a mere 4.5 hours after I called him, my fridge was cold and he was on his way out. The Yelp App helped me find George this week when my fridge stopped blowing cold air. At first his nonchalance to my issue put me off, however I soon realized in his world, my problem was not a big deal. I called at 1:30pm, described the problem, and he said he would be there at 5pm. He was about 10 min early! He showed up with his wire clippers and a new part. That's it. He swapped out one part (condenser overload capacitor), the condenser kicked on, and the fridge worked like new. The capacitor that he pulled out was small, but the capacitor that he put in was huge. Overkill? Maybe, but at least I won't have to replace the same part ever again. The bill was $175 and he gave me a great recommendation on a restaurant in Old Town - Old Jerusalem. My fridge was not getting cold, but my freezer was. My water/ice dispenser hasn't been working for a while now. I used a hair dryer a few months back to thaw out the back of my freezer and it worked, but it happened again so I went online and decided to call George. He came over and basically did the same thing as me. He told me my sensor was broken and that he had to order one for me which was about $240. In the meantime, he told me to keep plugging/unplugging the fridge every hour or so. Ended up my fridge is working now and I told him to cancel the part. My water/ice still isn't working, but he says it's the computer sensor board. I don't know! He was nice and he did try to give me some knowledge on appliances, but I think he is more old school. I think if you have the older model fridge, give him a call. He's not too keen on the new technology. read more

George is great. (He repairs all appliances not just fridges) His prices are fair and he's a very calm guy who works & explains things very carefully. I think he's my new go-to guy for appliance repair. I had an oldie but goodie stackable washer dryer (13 yrs old) and had been told by other repair guy that it is a good unit and that I should not race to replace it since it's sturdier than the new ones. George let me bring a part I had purchased on E-bay for $60 - he checked it out (it's under warranty too) pronounced it fit for duty, and then installed it for me. Another repair guy wanted to sell me a new one - (wouldn't install used part) That would have been about $230 for new part and the install about $120. I would give 10 stars if possible! My stainless steel GE (5 yrs old) freezer and fridge were not remaining cool during the past week, but interestingly enough it would start working in the evening/night. First, I called GE, but would have to wait almost a week before someone could service my appliance. So after reading the rave reviews on Yelp I called George to describe my problem and make an appointment. He offered the solution over the phone at no cost! I tried it and their solution worked. Excellent service. My frigidaire fridge broke, and I called first thing in the morning. I was told that although George was out of town, I would be called back by Arian. An hour or so later Arian called (I later discovered he actually works with Norhwest HVAC refrigeration, but they must have a reciprocal arrangement to assist each other), and he arranged to come round to take a look around 2pm - which he did. Geez, I want to stop reviewing George. Not because he sucks, obviously, but because I am effing sick of having to pay to fix things at our condo! That said, our A/C stopped working on one of the hottest days to date. This was pretty bad as we live on the top floor, and as we all learned in basic science, heat rises. Ugh. We called George and he showed up within 2 hours. He brought my husband with him on the roof, and showed him exactly what was wrong...our electronic panel was fried, and was even sparking occasionally. Eek! We quickly realized that our refrigerator had stopped working. We called another refrigerator repairman that was listed on Yelp, he couldn't make it until 2 days later.
