The wife says we came here once before many years ago but I don't remember it.  They've been at it here for 53 years since 1972. Normally, we avoid it due to the madhouse scene that is usually here (like when traffic can't even enter the parking lot from busy Milwaukee Ave because the parking lot is overflowing lol).  Well, it was -3F on a frigid Friday night and we were across Milwaukee Ave at the Jewel, and it was eerily quiet in Jewel, and we thought it was as good a time as any to also visit Jerry's lol. Well, it was relatively calm, and we found a close by parking spot, but there were still plenty of shoppers in Jerry's.  Their inventory is huge and truly impressive as are their prices.  No wonder this place is so super popular.  We picked up some cherries for $2.49 per lb and strawberries at a promo price of $0.79 per 1 lb container.  I would say 4.5 stars for our visit tonight, but really on their normal super-crowded shopping basis, I would still say 3 stars overall.  I don't personally think the hassle factor of shopping here for fruits and vegetables is worth it for the savings and the variety of offerings, thus the 2 star deduct.  But you have to decide for yourself, and apparently for many others, Jerry's is well worth the trip, and kudos to Jerry's for that and continued good luck and success to them.

So it's been over a decade since I've originally reviewed Jerry's, and here we are 13 years and 7…read moredays later and it's about time to update the review. Jerry's is still a gem of a produce store. They still maintain overall the cheapest produce you can find anywhere, and carry some unique produce you might not be able to find at other grocery stores. They also carry a decent variety of breads and pitas, desserts, and canned goods. The good value does come with a price though, as most of the time you'll be battling crowds of people while inside the store. Over the last decade I've definitely learned the times to avoid: Weekends and Wednesdays. Wednesdays I think they might have some sort of senior discount but it's also when they rotate their produce deals and the new weekly specials start. Though they have ample parking in the lots north and south of the store and along Milwaukee, during peak times it will be PACKED. I say avoid by going when they open or even after dinner as they're open pretty late. I find Mondays and Tuesdays to be a little less packed usually. Also, usually they have an entrance facing both North and South but the past few years during the winter time they've only had the South entrance open, I imagine to protect from the cold.

Out of all the years I've shopped here, there were only a couple times they didn't have something in stock that I wanted. I have to credit this place for curbing my need to going out to eat. Why? Because everything sold can ensure you can make great meals at home. Want to make pho? Chow fun? Bulgogi? Pad Thai? Pancit? If you have a decent recipe or already know what you need, you can make it at home for a fraction of the cost of what your local resto charges. Maybe you just want some frozen dumplings, instant ramyeon, & snacks to go with your new k-drama obsession. This place has it ALL. Everything is organized well, aisles are clean, & there isn't an overwhelming smell of spices & seafood. You can browse the aisles to some k-pop & have a pleasant shopping experience. Also, bonus points for the kitchen section. I bought a new wok here with a lid that I've been really happy with. Definitely shop here for all your Asian foods. Their service, quality, & pricing is unmatched!

They have all types of products. From Thai, to American. They are well stocked. I think the American section had two aisles full of products. Yes H-Mart! Seafood section smelled less fishy than how you usually smell supermarkets to be. Gacha, claw machines. Many mini stores within the market(left side of the store). Beauty stores, hair salon, korean corn dog, korean fried chicken. Even Cuckoo store! There is a cute shop past checkout, next to the korean corn dog shop. I did not discover this until I was checking out. Many hello kitty and pokemon stuff. Slippers, plushies, keychains, pins, patches, stationary items, beauty accessories(brushes, bags, mirrors), alarm clocks, legos, yeah. I spent probably 20-30 minutes browsing and convincing myself "I don't need this...but i REALLY want it" lol. Half of the markets inside were closed on Saturday around 6pm. Only ones open were the two food shops, two dessert shops, hair salon, Shisiedo, another beauty store and Cuckoo as far as I remember. Limited beauty inside the h-mart itself. The little shops had more. Many kitchen supplies as well. I was greeted with many individuals passing out Maxim coffee pack for the holidays. Super sweet! Everyone was so nice too. I almost ended up with 3 for going back in to check out the strip. I did also discover Daiso next to H-Mart, which I went there first. Heaven haha

Yesterday I got some of their cookies that had a BOGO sticker on the bag, no mention of needing to clip a coupon, and only after I checked out did I realize they charged for both bags and I had to get the refund from customer service. Today I see a bag of chips listed for $2.99 with clipped coupon (date is within the time of the posted item tag), scan the barcode and it takes me to a coupon for $2 off with Pepsi purchase. I search the app, no listed $2.99 coupon for that brand of chips. I look at the weekly ad, and it shows the $2.99 deal. So I go to check out, get home, and then when checking my receipt do I see it did not take the $2.99 price. They also changed the daily deli deals and they aren't as good as the previous ones unfortunately. Honestly the "deals" here have become so complicated it's almost not even worth it. I shouldn't have to make a stop at customer service every time I shop here.

Their parking lot is large and spacious and it never feels congested like at some other Jewels. It's a little tight and congested on their floor space inside though. Instead of having to go back to the store, all I had to do is access my purchase via the Amazon app. I was able to get a refund and didn't even have to bring back the meat. It's also very peaceful shopping there as there isn't hustle and bustle of other grocery stores. Could their pricing be cheaper? Of course but also know that they not only have discounts on some products if you have Amazon Prime above and beyond the sale price BUT you also get 5% off every purchase if you use your Amazon credit card for your transaction. Upon further inspection, it was produced in Australia (the long journey probably resulted in less freshness). However, I've had great luck with the Asian pears and most of the vegetables we bought here. I think it just depends on what you're looking for! Once you head out of the produce section, there's a great ready-made food area with everything from bento meals to breakfast favorites. This area is also where they have offered free tasters of dumplings and noodles in the past. Right past here are beverage aisles, frozen and refrigerated foods, then shelf stable items. Fresh fish and meats can be found along the very back of the restaurant. I'm particularly partial to the huge drink aisle where I've found everything from papaya milk to zero sugar sodas. Great selection of a ton of brands. You'll find similar impressive variety in their other aisles. Checkout is pretty simple afterwards with a traditional cashier, and as you leave, there is a great food court with a ton of different choices. The parking lot is a little hectic, but I would just make sure to take the back exits rather than the ones off the main road: it'll take forever if you want to turn left (since there are no traffic lights or signs for oncoming traffic).

There is only one place where you can enter this store, and even when I was here around 5pm on a Thursday this created a backup. To add insult to injury the doors are enter or exit only doors (though I can't remember if there's a barrier between them--so maybe you can fudge it). Other than that, standard Whole Foods. They have an Amazon return counter on the side opposite of the entrance (since that's the least convenient place they could have put it for people making returns, I can only assume it was by design and they're hoping that people will do some shopping whilst they're in there). At that end there is a single exit-only door right by the Amazon counter, so you can avoid temptation by leaving there.
