All I saw was beautiful green and lush grass for the playing fields and a fenced in, dirt only section for dogs. Dog Parks seem to be on the very bottom of the City's "to do list". Another Dog Park being seeded now is the one off Tahquitz by City Hall. Looks pretty before that small area becomes trampled on. Presently there is a temporary dog area set up (while other dog parks get some maintenance/seeding) at Ruth Hardy Park. It is really nice. It fits in aesthetically with the children's' area and the green open space. One can only hope that somebody from City Hall sees this post. Rumor has it that the fencing is coming down on 5-15th.

Our goal was to walk the labyrinth (we seek them out wherever we go) and it took a bit of effort to find it. Plenty of parking and restrooms are very clean.

The McCallum Trail and San Andreas Trail are open for a short way. Some trails are partly closed and as a result you cannot reach some of the informational signs. I have read those signs in the past when those trails were still open. FYI, the Mission Strand of the San Andreas Fault blocks the flow of underground water. The water rises to the surface creating a small oasis with native California fan palm trees and bird life.

The RV/campsite you can see from a distance is for the staff that works there, don't be alarmed by it! If you head on the trails toward the RV its very short but brings you into the giant palms and a wooden staircase that goes down to water and palms growing out of it. You can finish this very quickly. When you head out and head to the right there are branching paths here that lead to more hikes in palms, along the river oasis, and more into the mountains. The visitor center looked excellent and had a home made log cabin vibe, we could see some interesting artifacts inside but because the entrance was chained we didn't want to go in without permission even though it would have been easy to just duck under the chains.

The trail itself was very well-maintained and for me personally... not clear to navigate. There were markers every few yards however, but there were other trails branching off of this trail that were very tempting and made me a bit confused. This hike did NOT have a gentle incline and there were many steepness changes as I continued down the trail. I did not complete this hike as I was coming from Big Horn Trail and Jack Rabbit Trail on the same day and I was already walking for hours and I was tired. Luckily, this particular trail CAN end quite conveniently at the Ritz Carlton Rancho Mirage which happens to be one of my favorite locations in all of the Coachella Valley. Btw... you don't have to be a guest of the Ritz Carlton to get free bottled water... (pro tip) ;- Overall, I would highly recommend the Chuckwalla Trail to anyone visiting Palm Springs who loves hiking and wants to experience the beauty of desert landscapes. Just be sure to bring plenty of water and sun protection, especially during the hotter months. Trust me, you won't regret it!
