It started out pretty simple and not very challenging. However, the higher up we climbed the more I got blown around...and not in a "good way" if ya know what I mean! Lol. The trail heading down was very steep, sandy & rocky with not much traction. We had to go down side ways to avoid slipping on our buttocks. Once we were 1/2 way down it was less intense and we weren't concerned about slipping. The views were incredible! Lots of desert plants were flowering. From start to finish it was less than a mile. Plenty of resting spots. I would like to come back when it's not so darn windy...but lately it's always windy in DHS. Oy!

The city of Desert Hot Springs is making a concerted effort to create and maintain great hiking opportunities and Long Canyon Trail is the latest example. My trip out to the trailhead on a weekday offered some interesting sights along the way: two folks engaging in what looked like target practice and another fellow perhaps sampling some natural herbs. If you plan to hike, I'd make sure you go with a group. And don't forget water, sunscreen and a hat. Free parking and no entrance fee.

The entrance is right off of route 62 so keep your eyes opened or you will pass it. It helps to put the address in your gps. Follow the dirt road about a mile or so. (Word of advice: do not wash your car before you go here. Your car will be coated in dust:)! This dirt road takes you to a public lot by the big wooden gate. We were told that if you call 24 hours ahead of when you want to go there, you can get access to drive in past the gate. I believe they also have overnight camping available. We were fine with the hike into the park. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon and the river to our left was flowing from recent rains. We passed several people on the trails. Some had dogs with them. Everyone was friendly and in good spirits. We passed a few stone huts and a fountain that was not working along the way. Couldn't help ourselves and took some fun pics. You can have a picnic here. The huts had no roofs but they did have wooden picnic tables inside. After a few minutes we continued our way towards the log cabin and did some exploring inside before turning around and heading back to the car. This hike was easy and a great cardio workout for the day. There were several trails to take. I am looking forward to checking out a different one the next time I go.

He shared the parks rich history, the eco system and geology. He exceeded all my expectations. Especially noteworthy was Kelly's ability to interact with my 5-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter. He was very attuned to their questions and request. To an outside observer, he would have seemed like a loving uncle. This is something you can't put a price on. Kelly took our family on a kid friendly hike to Barker's Dam. On our hike he shared his knowledge of the vegetation along the trails. We went looking for the Big Horn Sheep and saw many of the local animals. Along the way, Kelly helped out other hikes find their way and he even took steps to pick up some rubbish left behind by some uncaring hikers. I can say without a doubt, Kelly is someone who loves his job and enjoys sharing his vast understanding of Joshua Tree with others. After our hiking was over, he took us out to a remote location to watch the sunset and enjoy an alfresco dinner. His cooking skills was right what the occasion called for...delicious. The second part of our tour was star gazing with "Starman" Steve. He has to be an expert among experts. He brought out his high-power telescope. With his telescope we able to see the moon up close, see Jupiter in high detail, see Saturn with it's rings and distant star clusters. During his presentation his gave us a tour of the constellations. Once again, the interaction with my kids was amazing. My kids came up with every "kid question" that they could think of and Starman couldn't have been kinder to them. I can't wait until I have a chance to visit Joshua Tree again and book another excursion with Joshua Tree Excursion.

Overall we really enjoyed our experience and would highly recommend using them. And we paid about $100 per person for a private morning tour. That's pretty good value IMO! The selection of different activities was very low but that was because we booked the busiest time of the season, and only about 3 weeks ahead of time. Booking process was very smooth. The only issue I had was they were unresponsive to any type of communication beforehand. After I booked online, I wrote them and email asking for confirmation, as well as called them and left a voicemail. I received no reply. I almost thought I might have been scammed! Thankfully that wasn't that case.

BEST WEDDING VENUE EVER!…read more My husband and I dreamed of a wedding where everyone could stay together onsite, immersed in nature, with no worries about driving after a night of fun, and Camp Osito Rancho made that dream a reality. Our families stayed in the health center, lodge, and electrified cabins, while our friends embraced the adventure of summer cabins and tents. The venue offers so many stunning spaces, from the spacious dining hall for meals to the stage/amphitheater with fire pits--perfect for s'mores and late-night stories. We exchanged vows at the top of a hill near the outdoor pavilion, with a gorgeous backdrop of pine trees and a view of Big Bear Lake in the distance. We were able to offer our guests camp activities like archery and a pool day, as well as had room to setup other activities like craft tables and lawn games. The biggest perk was the complete freedom to choose our own vendors, allowing us to create a truly personalized experience (huge shoutout to Scratch Kitchen for catering--our guests still rave about the food). We spent a year making signs, collecting décor, buying solar lights, and crafting to transform this Girl Scout camp into a full-blown wedding festival. Richard provided great detail while putting it all together in an easy to understand big-picture perspective. Adult prices are higher of course. We had no idea what to expect and were very happy to have had the opportunity to meet Ken and have him as our tour guide. He is an amazing man and is so full of knowledge. He gave our girls ample opportunity to ask questions, told them all about the different types of windmills, talked about their impact, and even told them about careers in the industry! We definitely recommend this tour for EVERY troop that is going through the Breathe journey. You won't find a better expert than Ken, anywhere!
