Avoid! We stayed 1 night in room 2. Apparently this pub is voted derbyshires best in 2009 and 2010. Well if true then by 2011 it must have changed hands and sacked it's chef.
The evening meal was disappointing, we'd chosen 2 of their "world famous pies" which had good flavour but were clearly microwaved as the shortcrust pastry was tough and rubbery. The chips were greasy, the veg took me back 30years to school dinners as soggy over salted mush. The only positive was the two beers on tap were good.
Regarding the room, lack of working radiators means no where to dry towels.
And why cant these places can't leave fresh milk in the rooms for tea making, UHT yuck.
Breakfast continued the trend of being disappointing, with no evidence of local produce being used, and the over use of lard filled frying plate in the kitchen instead of the healthier and tastier grill. Frying tomatoes is never good.
This place has loads of potential, just none of it realised at the moment feels like it's lost it's way and living off past awards. read more
