Super tasty quality food, I noticed that on the menu it even tells you which farm the meat came from, or where the ice cream was made etc. The Greek Lamb and the Gammon are both brilliant. The portions are huge and I'm always left with enough food for another meal but save room for the Holly Bush sundae because you wont ever have a such a selection of tasty locally made ice cream :) The prices are great too, last time I went it was around 30quid for the 2 of us.

Popped in on the way back from a cold day out at Alton Towers…read more We got a lovely warm welcome, were quickly seated near a roaring fireplace and settled in for a great meal accompanied by some very well kept Hartington IPA. The pub is cosy and friendly, and in a great location for walkers and cyclists on the Tissington trail. We'll definately be heading back soon (to the Royal Oak not Alton Towers, which is another story)!

We were only stopping through for a couple of days, but still managed to pack in an afternoon of ales, cider and pool at The Cock and Pullet pub. It's a charming little pub chock full of classic English heritage. The staff were lovely and accommodating and the selection of ales, ciders and beers were most superb. If you find yourself up in this beautiful neck of the woods (it's literally right in the middle of the picturesque Peak District),I'd highly recommend that you stop in for a Tipple!

Only open a couple of days a week - at the weekend - it serves quite reasonable food and fantastic beer - personally I love the absolution. The landlord is usually to be found drinking a bowl of tea in the bar by the fire with his whippets and reading the Telegraph. The Horse and Jockey is definitely 'a local pub for local people'…read more On one side it seems like a good pub selling beers with a restaurant attached where you can get things like 2 steaks and a bottle of wine for £25 on a Tuesday or 2 curries for £10 on a Weds but judging by the amount of deals and discounts on offer it's probably not somewhere you'd be aiming to go to for a fine dining or romantic experience. On the other side was my father in law and myself going in to watch the football on the Saturday night and finding quite a few show off drunkard locals who were fairly openly racist and made the viewing of the match fairly unpleasant. The landlord seemed friendly when chatting to him at the bar but this isn't somewhere I'd regularly go if it wasn't the only pub in the village showing the match.

We recently stayed at the Barrel Inn for 7 nights while in England visiting family. The place was…read moredelightful. The room was updated and well appointed. The views were out of this world. During our visit we ate in the restaurant several times. The Fish n Chips were fabulous, very tasty and not greasy. The Toad in the Hole was another favorite and a new experience for this American. The Sunday Roast was second to none. The owners, Diane and Phil, are very hands on with their business and are delightful to speak with. When we are back in the area, I know where we will be staying.
