I am a 71 year old disabled pensioner with myriad health problems and a tiny assistance dog in a small pram which is a walking aid for me. I was treated in a bad way on the floor selling cutlery which was expensive but which I wanted to purchase.The young assistant had a couldn't care less attitude.So I walked away without saying anything as I am very polite. I approached the duty manager on my way out who totally misconstrued what I said to him. I have spent thousands of pounds in Binns over many years even when it was open in Middlesbrough.In this time of economic recession I am GLAD they are allowed to be rude so they won't miss my custom.A couple outside saw my distress and comforted me.He needs to remember NOT ALL DISABILITIES ARE OBVIOUS.As the nice Lady outside said 'Poor communication skills are paramount in all walks of life'.I will never go there again.

The Primark store is now located in the Cornmill shopping centre, on the site of what once was, the C & A store, after moving from a location on the outskirts of town a few years ago. The Primark in Darlington is the first I'd ever heard of, a lot of years ago now, and before it ever became fashionable. The windows of the store always look inviting, with lots of models, male and female, young and old, sporting Primark's newest clothing ranges and accessories. At the entrance to the store there's usually a couple of sales racks, which does make the store look a bit cheap, in my opinion, but the rest of the store is well looked after, with tidy racks and rails and no clothes/hangers cluttering up the floors. This store has an extensive underwear and nightwear section on the ground floor as well. Upstairs, the menswear, childrenswear and Homeware are all squeezed on to one floor, so their ranges aren't quite as impressive as the women's, but there's still a decent level of stock, and it's all clean and tidy there too. This Primark does have a good selection of products that other Primarks I've visited don't have - the aforementioned 'smellies' and a gift section, with make-up sets and Christmas crackers.

On Saturday, we went to Boyes. I've always been a fan of Boyes - as a child it was the sweets and the pocket-money toys that attracted me there, as a teenager it was the clothes, shoes and make-up, when I first left home it was the DIY products, the curtains and the general bric-a-brac for the home, and now it's the craft pieces (and still the sweets). So we always spend a good half hour in here. Boyes has remained exactly the same for the last 20 years - the items are similar and they're even located in the same place as they always were. As you enter the store, there's the baby clothes and other items, the sweets, then the toys, homeware such as towels, and the knitting patterns and materials. Upstairs is the DIY stuff, the make-up and the clothes and shoes. Sadly, despite Boyes being a firm favourite, they lose a star for having part of their store inaccessible to wheelchair users. There's a small raised section devoted to materials, and although it has Stanna-type stairlifts, there is no access for people that are unable to walk. They have lifts between the ground floor and the first floor, but these are very small. Apart from that, the store offers a fantastic range of products and their prices are competitive.

Sections cover mens and ladies and also childrens. A lot of the clothes are set prices (like £2.99 for a pair of shoes) so sometimes you can get a good bargain. The shop also has a small selection of books, fair trade goods and at Chistmas they stock wrapping paper and cards. Each week the Manager has a special which is advertised in the window and usually involves a type of clothes (like ladies skirts) being half price. Always worth a browse around if you have the time.

In…read moreaddition to the wide range of second hand items that you would expect in a charity shop, there are also ranges of new items including fairtrade items, greeting cards and they also stock their oxfam unwrapped gifts which basically mean that you purchase something useful like a blanket, water supply, an animal or emergency food for someone in need on behalf of the person who will receive a card. At the moment Oxfam has a promotion running which gives you a £5 M&S voucher if you make a clothing donation to the shop which includes at least one M&S item.

I hope the management would look at this as sales would increase for men if you stocked sizes more in keeping with what is required. I cannot see that the thousands of items in the 30 to 36 sizes sell as they are for teenagers and not for the older person as youngsters of today want high brand items. The same applies for womens sizes again not for the older person and sizes very small. Come on management stock more of the bigger sizes and sales will increase. RogerB3
