Gentry's is the only heating and air company I use. This whole-house cooler is their latest work. One crew member, Sean McMurphy, 3 days to remove my old, roof-mounted cooler, and install this brand new ground-level cooler with new ducting. All ready for the 2021 Summer. Bad choice calling Gentry! I called them because my York heater (which they installed in 2012) would light and then go out. The person that came out focused on a noisy Inducer fan motor and changed that for $621.97. Did not fix it! The man comes back several times, and seems to be struggling with finding the problem. The problem was not the Transducer and Flame sensing rod which he next changed for $459.80! I gave up on Gentry and asked a friend to look at it, and he checked my Propane supply tanks regulator and found the pressure very low. I had Suburban Propane out next day and they changed out regulator and checked all my propane fired appliances and now heater work just fine!! Never calling Gentry again!![ read more

My dualpak (furnace + A/C combo unit) was acting up (no surprise at 40 years old), so I got a couple quotes. Gentry was extremely responsive (came out within hours to gather information to provide the quote), very willing to answer my detailed questions, and quite accommodating to my schedule. The quote was reasonable - much lower than another provider in town. He took the time to make sure I didn't need a bigger (i.e., more expensive) unit, saving me a lot of money where others take advantage. They even hauled off my old swamp cooler and fixed the ducting nightmare in my attic, giving me free advice on how to seal up and insulate other areas to make the whole thing more efficient. The installation was a breeze, the workers were fantastic, and the new dualpak is performing perfectly. Every employee I had contact with was courteous, polite and enjoyable to work with. read more

My son recommended Gentry's to repair an A/C unit that stopped working on a hot summer night with a newborn baby in the house. Although it was after hours on a weekend, Gentry's came out and made the repair late that same night. I recently had Gentry's replace an old non-operational furnace with a new 96% efficient unit that has performed quite well. I was presented with multiple options based operational efficiency with a full explanation of possible upgrades to including a rough-in for future a/c, an easy access filter box, and a thorough operational review. I found the staff to be friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend Gentry's as a long time, local HVAC shop with an experienced staff. read more

Awful service!!! Nobody ever answers the phone at the office...they don't answer their emergency numbers, and they give horrible customer service. The guy came out and said he fixed the A/C and it stopped working as soon as he left. He said he would be back the next day with new filters and never showed up and then you can't get ahold of anyone when you call. Ughhhhh!!!!! read more

Bad experience all around. They never answer phone, and when they you DO get through to them, they will schedule you an appointment to come out and fix your Swamp Cooler and then not show up. Happened twice in a row, i strongly advise against Gentry. If you have an emergency in this heat and need service quick, these are not your guys. read more

A/C went out when temperature hit 115. We were told they would not have an opening until the following week. On the day of the appointment at noon to confirm that they were still coming and was told, yes between noon and 4pm. They never showed and no one ever even tried to call us. This is written a week later and we have not heard from them. Can I rate this 0 for customer service? My swamp cooler went out last Thursday. Considering the decent reviews, I called Gentry around 2 pm. No answer. I left a message to get back to me. Went on to call Duran's with the same situation. Gentry called me on Friday morning first thing to tell me that he may be able to make it later on in the day, he didn't have an employee present. In Ridgecrest, a maybe isn't good enough. Temperatures in this town can skyrocket. Meanwhile, my mother is living in this house with several very serious health conditions including lupus. About an hour later, Duran's gives me a call back saying that they can be here at 12:30 pm, which we all know is the hottest part of the day!! Of course, I accept and the swamp cooler is fixed by 1:30 pm. I try to give Gentry a call but THEIR HOURS WERE ONLY UNTIL 12. I am a busy person who works and goes to college. While I am at work the same day, Gentry leaves me a message around 4:30 pm saying that he looked at my swamp cooler and nothing was wrong (of course there wasn't, Duran's was great). I thought nothing of it and continued with my life. Today at 7:30 am, Gentry calls and wakes me up telling me I owe them $80 just for coming to my house when I wasn't even present. When I try to argue my case, the man simply states that "he will send the bill." I am willing to go to small claims court over this. I refuse to pay $80 for no services rendered after paying Duran's $85 for a fixed swamp cooler!! read more

A/C quit... 100 degrees outside... 90 degrees inside. Called Gentry at 8am and was told the service tech should be able to make it out today. Tech never showed and never called. I called back at 4:30 and a message informed me that I could get emergency service at (unspecified) emergency rates. The tech did come out the next day and replaced a fuse I wasn't aware of. Instead of replacing the original High Performance 50A fuse with an equivalent, they replaced it with a general purpose 40A fuse! This 5-minute service call with the incorrect fuse cost me $96.50. Had to go to Home Cheapo for the right fuse. read more

This business is the worst. They get you to pay for installation, then promise that they will take care of you and don't. We had an A/C system put in and it has never worked properly. They guaranteed a proper install and they never fulfilled their promise. The system has been leaking freon since they installed it and they refuse to fix it. Even when it is working one room is 60 degrees and another room is 80 degrees. They claim that it works fine. Now we are having to go to another company in town to get them to fix Gentry's problems. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY YOU WILL BE SORRY. They might be able to fix coolers, but any monkey can do that. Do not hire them to fix or install Air Conditioning. They don't do a good job and they do not stand behind their work. read more

Decided to take the plunge and remove evaporative cooler from my house, and replace with a refrigerated a/c system. Gentry replaced my furnace in 2009, did a fantastic job then, so I naturally looked to them for this project. The owner came to my house, patiently listened to my ideas, took measurements, and provided me with an estimate for the work. The estimate was clearly written, contained specific work to be performed, and was reasonably priced. When I had made my deposit, only fair to expect a deposit to start the work, they showed up the next week and began my project. My house is 35 years old and retro-fitting was a complicated project. But they did a fantastic job! They had the entire retro-fit completed in 4 days, hauled off the old cooler and trash, and tested the entire system. They were knowledgeable, professional, and it was a pleasure working with Jerry, Nick, and Sean. I don't know why people have written poor reviews - maybe those writers were impatient or calling at weird times of the day. I never had problems contacting Jerry or anyone else at their place. They showed up when they said they'd be at my house, answered all of my questions, and left my house in the same condition as they found it. They always answered the phone when I called them, I never once even had to leave a voicemail. I highly recommend them. They've been in business in R/C for decades. They know what you need for your home's comfort, are timely, and reasonably priced. I highly recommend them. read more
