Genesis DOES use subcontractors! DO NOT HIRE THEM!
I signed a contract with Genesis, in part because a big part of their sales pitch, and all of their promotional materials, say that they do not use subcontractors, and that all of their painters are hourly employees, to ensure that they do not try to rush the job or cut corners. I have less-expensive estimates from other companies that I could have hired if I wanted sub-par painters. My house was painted by a crew who is NOT employed by Genesis. This crew prepped my 4 bedroom, 2 story home in less than 4 hours. The supervisor, who showed up only occasionally and was very difficult to reach, told me, repeatedly, that they were behind and had a number of other jobs lined up, so they needed to hurry on my house. The crew showed up, twice, when it was raining and I had to turn them away. My husband and I spent hours having to manage the job. I was also told that, because my house was built in the 1930s, I would have a "historic home" crew assigned to the job. This crew, clearly, did not know how to prep, or paint an older home. Additionally, I found paint chips all over the perimeter of our house, despite the fact that there was lead-paint concern because of the age of the home.
While the work was being done, I called and talked to Bob, and another Genesis employee (I don't remember her name) to complain about the quality of the work and to express my concern that the humidity meter wasn't being used, as well as the fact that the crew was attempting to paint my house in light rain. I also complained about the fact that I didn't have a supervisor onsite, and that I wasn't receiving daily walk through. I was told, twice, that this would happen, it never did.
When the work was completed, Theresa, in the business office, called to collect payment. I informed her that the house was not painted properly, and she confirmed that we did NOT have a Genesis crew on the job, and that instead our job was subcontracted to a former Genesis employee. I let her know that I was not going to pay for the job with the house in the state that it was in. Brandon, the owner, got involved and demanded payment. When I refused, he told me to contact an attorney. It was only after I informed Brandon that I had, in fact, spoken with an attorney and was advised that Genesis had committed fraud in the inducement, that Brandon agreed to send a Genesis crew out to fix my house. It looks fine now, but I wasted countless hours dealing with this.
I absolutely would NOT recommend Genesis Painting as you have no idea who may show up to paint your house. If you have already signed a contract with them, my advice is: to have the crew supervisor show you proof that you do, in fact, have Genesis employees working on your house; insist that the supervisor remains on-site throughout the entirety of the job; insist that the supervisor shows you all of the materials that will be used on your house--the first crew tried to save money by not using masonry paint on my chimney and exposed foundation, despite the fact that it was outlined in the bid/contract.
Genesis may have been a reputable business at one time, but they are now willing to cut corners at the customer's expense and Brandon will try to bully you into payment, even if you are not happy with the quality of work. read more
