If you are reading this, you likely have a loved one who is heading into rehab, spinal cord injury…read moreor stroke related. I am writing this because there isn't much info about this place, and I had a family member in here for about 3 weeks. I wanted info, but found little, so here is my way of helping someone else who may be coming to this rough patch in the road. OVERALL: 10/10 WHERE IS IT? It's a section of the 3rd floor of the main Kaiser Hospital in Vallejo, it is not a separate building. There are 2 sections of rooms, both on the 3rd floor. One section is directly above the Labor & Delivery (2nd floor), and the other section is in the main hospital wing. PARKING: You can park in Lot 2 (open to anyone) or park in the parking garage, park closest to the elevators. Parking is free in both areas. It gets busy, so they even have a parking valet until 5pm in the main loop. WHAT HAPPENS? They will take the patient in, and the doctor will do a quick initial assessment when the patient arrives. The doctor will likely ask the patient to rest for the remainder of day. The following day is an assessment by all of the specialist departments, OT, PT, and Speech Therapy (which is also related to memory). They have a huddle and decide what would be the best plan of action for rehab, and determine an estimated discharge date. Most patients had about 2 weeks as their initial window. Depending on the progress, they could extend the therapy for an additional 5 days if they believe progress is being made, so your timeline may be extended. Ours was extended twice. DAILY: The patients are given a daily schedule of all their 30-minute therapy classes (some acronyms were new to me: OTD is OT for dressing in the morning, RME is resistance mat exercises). Weekend class schedule is different and varies per patient, usually less classes. If no family member is there to take the patient to their class, the nurses or therapists get them there. There are lines on the floor to help navigate the area: PT is red, Speech is orange, OT is green, and admin offices is brown. ROOMS: Some patients get a large private room, and some are in a quad-room which separates 4 patients by hospital curtains. Just depends on what opens up first. VISITORS: They allow one guest to stay full-time in the patient's room. You can request a pull out bed that is surprisingly comfortable. You can shower in the patient's bathroom (some have Jack & Jill bathrooms between 2 patients rooms, so be sure to lock both doors). Your loved one will likely be tired from all the therapy classes, so try to limit guests so they can rest. AMENITIES: They have a laundry room where you can bring your own HE (high efficiency) detergent, and wash clothes for free. There is a family room which is a large room with tables for families to visit with their loved one. You also could do some laptop work in there if needed. Ice and water dispensers, shared fridge so be sure to label your items, and hospital type snacks (graham crackers, soup broth, etc) The family room by the rehab gym is nicer and more well lit than the one in the other area. FOOD: There is a standard hospital cafeteria on the 1st floor. During the week they have a salad bar, hot foods, and cold foods. Weekends is a small menu. On Mondays and Fridays there is a farmer's market. Down Sereno Drive (left when exiting the hospital) are 2 grocery stores (Food Basket and 168) and a small neighborhood Walmart. If you can drive, go across 80, there are lots of food options and stores (Target, Nick the Greek, Ike's, Starbucks, Costco, DSW, Marshalls, In-n-Out, etc) LODGING: If you need to stay somewhere, the Homewood Suites in Fairfield is about a 15 minute drive up 80, from the hospital. It's equipped with a kitchen and small gym, plus free breakfast in the mornings. Park in the front, the back gets extremely dark. Leave zero items in your vehicle, and you are good. Hang in there, you got this.

First of all the staff are all kind and compassionate and work really hard. My family member…read morearrived just before a strike by therapists. (Nurses here are not on strike as they belong to a different union) It was fairly obvious on day one of the strike who the regular therapists were and who were replacement therapists. Replacement therapists were not familiar with equipment, room locations etc and therefore time in actual therapy was delayed several times. Now my loved one is to be discharged and is nowhere near ready. Kaiser has only 2/3rd of the beds open due to staffing concerns. Other patients are waiting to be admitted so no one is getting their care extended apparently. Kaiser should do the right thing and settle this strike ASAP! It's unconscionable to try to break the unions. Healthcare workers will only strike as a last resort to reach a settlement and do not take their vote lightly. Kaiser is putting patients lives at risk by allowing the strike to occur in the first place. Its CEO's salary is $23 million and profits are obscene for a "not for profit" hospital chain. These workers deserve a decent wage increase and more staffing to help them provide the care they've been trained to provide.

There was only one instance where a nurse was a bit rough- and the facility was quick to respond. They are working hard to turn this place around and it is MUCH better than it was- it's known as SOLANO POST ACUTE now. The roof is in process of full replacement; maintenance staff are very responsive; and the nurse to patient ratio is reasonable. The physical therapy room is well-equipped and the physical therapists are excellent; they work hard to help each patient achieve their goals. The rooms are a bit cramped with three people in each one, and I wish all three had access to natural light; one bathroom is shared between two rooms (up to six people). The food goes from really good to decent- but in the 9 days there we didn't find one meal where she couldn't find something to eat. With a little more work (e.g., the back entrance is not ADA-compliant; they need to install a better front entrance system with video and vestibule; some lighting needs to be fixed; parking area needs to be made safer with more lighting and reconfiguration), this facility will be one Vallejo can be proud of for those who need care before going home.

While I will say that this facility is far better than the Windsor Rehabilitation Center on…read moreHospital Drive, this place has not impressed me what so ever. My Grandmother was placed placed here through Sutter Hospital after having a partial hip replacement Surgery for rehab purposes. From the first day there it was a problem, she gets there and nobody that works there knows how her leg pillow is supposed to be placed between her legs for the healing of the hip etc, if my Grandmother would not have remembered being taught in physical therapy than it would have risked her hip popping out and not healing correctly. They have no patient phones in the rooms, they have one at the front desk and one floating cell phone for the patients. What kind of crap is that. There was also no TV in her room either, I saw TVs in all the other rooms except hers, we complained and they said we had to talk to the manager about it. Finally after being there for 5 days they put in a TV, they were saying originally that they could put it in but we would have to pay for the direct tv, but they gave her basic cable with a couple channels. What did they expect her to do, stare at the wall the whole time, she is recovering from hip surgery and is limited in mobility and they don't give her a TV, unbelievable. She cannot eat there because she can't stand the food, she says its terrible. She says she can't sleep because it is so noisy with talking, yelling and banging all the time. Which is true I heard it myself. She pushes the nurse call button and nobody comes. She asks for something and they forget or bring it hours later. When we transferred her from Sutter Hospital to here, the social worker told us that she could leave whenever she wants to. My Dad has been trying to get her out for 3 days and they keep telling him she cant leave until she see's the Doctor, she has not seen a Doctor since she arrived there in over a week. Finally after complaining so much, she now can come home on Sunday, today is a Friday. It seems that they just want to keep her as long as she can to collect the most money from the insurance as possible. Because she has been able to walk and use the regular restroom on her own for 4 days now. The whole reason she had to go to this facility was just to recover a bit more from the surgery, help with restroom etc and physical therapy until she could walk and help herself with basic functions. Crazy and be careful with where you choose to place your family members in these types of facilities. You hear horror stories of physical and mental abuse, thankfully that is not happening, but abuse as far as holding against her will when she can now function enough to go home is still a form of elder abuse.

Dr. Zaritsky has been one of the most diligent, resourceful, and transparent clinicians I've encountered at Kaiser. From the moment of our original video appointment in Summer 2025 to the meticulous follow-up post-surgery, she left no page unturned. She made it a habit to have my charts as updated and clear as possible so that she could provide me with the most optimal care. Dr. Zaritsky was more than competent and established a clear effort to make me knowledgeable and at ease regarding the pending surgery, simultaneously. Brava, Dr. Z! Additionally, the team of Nurses, NPs, Anesthesiologist, and many others (Roger Lee, MD, Lanette Gresham, NP, Sandy Santos,RN, Elizabeth Souza, RN) mirrored her lead in care. Again, each interaction with staff was beyond my expectations and provided me with such comfort pre-surgery and post-surgery. The medical staff demonstrated a seamless orchestration of care through emotional support, preparation, and knowledge sharing required for me as a patient. They provided the necessary reassurance in the quality of care with precision and passion. In the interim, I have already recommended other friends and families to use Vallejo Kaiser for their future surgeries especially those involving Myomectomy and Cystectomy. Dr. Zaritsky and staff should be commended for their cohesiveness, quality of care, but most importantly, their passion to be on the frontline with patients with complex fertility-related surgeries. As a woman, aspiring to be a Mother, and overall need to be in my best health, I trusted in Dr. Zaritsky's skill and experience to fulfill the laparoscopic surgery and she delivered. So, my last charge is to empower more exceptional professionals (and retain them) like the staff mentioned here to continue the high quality and individualized, patient-centered care for the Vallejo and Bay Area community. Thank you Dr. Z and everyone else for making me feel like the most important person in the world on that day and I'm heading to Goofy's Kitchen soon with a full heart and deep gratitude. Bravas to the entire Team!
