(1) Going to the nearest emergency room did not work for us since the emergency, (medically necessary care after a cycling accident in which a jaw was broken and teeth were lost), was not life threatening. Kaiser was great and wanted to take care of our daughter, but in this situation the best they could do is tell us what was wrong and then send us home. (2) This carrier does not have a specialist in network to take care of broken jaws. So care is much slower, and on top of that, the specialist that was found said that it was not necessary, (he had other plans to fix her overbite), and with that decision, since this insurance hasn't wanted to cover any of the care to my daughters ability to eat for good health, I can image how much they could have fought to pay for any care. (3) The jaw never got set because of this, and the upper mandible had splinters in it that only a dentist seemed to notice, and since this was all seen by an expert that isn't medical, even though getting good nutrition by being able to eat properly seems to have the idea being necessary for good health, the carrier does not see this as medical work but dental work. This is not like my daughter didn't brush her teeth and just let them rot out. They were knocked out of her mouth after hitting the concrete when falling from off her bike. (4) To get the proper care for my daughter, it's going to cost over $20k. An insurance company should be able to afford paying for some of that. By the way, at the time of trying to get my daughter care, my wife and I talked with another mom who had a son that broke his collar bone. She had a very similar experience, but since it was more on the body, the son did eventually get some support from the carrier. The funny thing is she even works for the medical group. So it seems they don't even care about their own employees and their family.

They used my credit card without my permission and sweared that I handed them my card. I know what I paid and when I handed them my card. The cc should ask for a security code each time someone uses a card. The staff never seem to get anything right.The only positive experience I have was with the surgeon who is one of the best and his physical therapists who were fantastic. I had a successful surgery. The conclusion appeared to be based entirely on a brief, one-hour observation, despite a previous diagnosis and an extensive, documented clinical history. When I attempted to provide context regarding my child's history and specific social struggles, my concerns were laughed off and ignored. I found out later that the standard of care or best practice for these evaluations typically involves consulting with the child's teachers and therapists (who spend more time with them) to get a holistic view. This provider made no effort to gather outside clinical or educational input. I found the physician's bedside manner to be unprofessional. She was unwilling to engage in a meaningful dialogue regarding my child's documented history. The evaluation process felt rushed, and was finalized before I had the opportunity to ensure all relevant behavioral data was considered. I also have to question whether the association with the referring body may have impacted this provider's neutrality--e.g. the Alta California Sacramento chapter, under the legal guidance of Robin Black, which is known to turn away as many children as possible. I would advise families--especially those whose children may mask symptoms or have nuanced social presentations--to seek a different provider if they have the choice. A diagnosis should be based on a comprehensive history, not a snapshot in time.

Just common sense and caring instruction. The sense of Worry for the safety for your kiddos that was so prevalent in our district schools was not here. The kids know they are safe and in a great place and can begin to relax and learn. Everyone is well informed, kind and focused on the well being and instruction of each child. I will start off by saying that it is true, that you cannot undo eleven years of an eating disorder in eight weeks, but you can walk away with a lot of knowledge. Through this program, I learned why my digestive system wasn't working the way it should be due to my Ed behaviors, I learned about nutrition, skills, nourishing my body, an anti-diet culture approach to health, and therapy skills. I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with other pods (Washington, Oregon, etc) due to California's pod being small. It was great hearing the stories of others. While we all may have struggled with different disorders/behaviors, we all could relate in so many ways. Cooking group was originally intimidating, but over time it became my favorite. I also need to give a special shout out to the dietician, Lauren. I'm going to miss her so much. She made nutrition, cooking group, and the overall program so much fun. There were times where I really wanted to just toss my hat in and give up, but Lauren because Lauren was such a light during my process I was like well dang if I do that then I'm probably going to miss out on some good knowledge she's going to drop. She definitely changed my life when it comes to diet culture, understanding the importance of ALL food groups, and food freedom. If you would have told me I would have some animal crackers just chillin in my kitchen right now, I wouldn't have believed you. I had an MRI of the brain with contrast at UC Davis/Ellison Ambulatory Care Center yesterday. The…read moreradiology center is in the basement and same-day surgery is on the ground floor. Lots of medical offices are here as well. The radiology front desk went out of their way to get me on a cancellation list since my MRI order was expiring. Sure enough, they were able to fit me in. It took less than an hour from start to finish, and the team was top-notch. This imaging procedure went very smoothly thanks to the excellent staff and medical care. I was really dreading this MRI since the last time I had a contrast MRI (6 years ago in LA) , they couldn't find the vein and poked me close to 8 times until successfully placing the IV. The pro at Davis got me in one try, and I'm known as a "tough stick." That's skill. Granted, it's always a challenge having an MRI because you have to stay perfectly still in an enclosed area and the machine does create lots of noise, but this went so well thanks to UC Davis' caring and on-point staff. In addition to a warm blanket, they also checked up on me frequently during pauses to make sure I was OK. I was very impressed with the care, calm atmosphere, and expertise shown during this procedure. I was glad to have it over, for sure, but grateful for the excellent teamwork that made this as painless as possible. Ample parking is available in the adjacent parking structure; don't forget to get your parking validated- it's only $2 if you are a patient. On-site limited item cafeteria is on the premises in case your friends/family need a drink or snack.
